If you're looking to ditch your old HDTV in favor of Sony's HX803-series Bravia 3D TV, due to arrive in Europe this June, you'll receive four free 3D PlayStation 3 games. It's not explicit whether the "free collection" will be comprised PSN codes or compiled on a disc, but the promotional titles, including WipEout HD, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, PAIN and Super Stardust HD, will also be made available on PSN at the same time.
We're following up with Sony America about whether it plans to have a similar promotion in the same timeframe. We'll be sure to update in glorious 2D text if it does.

Wasn't this joke supposed to be reserved for the Nintendo 3DS?

If they patch the 3D into those games and not charge for an "upgrade", that will be a win.

they are doing this for the people who don't own a ps3 but are buying a 3dtv. They want to push more ps3's (and just their hardware in general) as much as possible.

I wonder if 3D will have a majour impact on the games graphics, considering the game has to render the image twice simultaneously and be running at 60 FPS.

Ugh, I don't even own an HDTV. I am really despising this whole 3D thing.

I'll never really enjoy the 3-D thing. Especially in movies...it might be okay in games if implemented right. but, really, 3D was cool in the 90s and the novelty wore off...and all of the sudden it's the new cool thing? It's cheese and rarely used the way it should be. Hopefully, this and the 3DS will show us something cool with 3D + video games.

Actually, you should have the least to complain about considering you don't have a HDTV anyways, you didn't already spend money on a now "obsolete" set. You will be able to get a TV and it will be 3D-Ready. Most likely every TV sold will be 3D-Ready soon even if it's a feature you may not be shopping for. Just like all TVs now are "Full HD 1080p, '120hz', HDMI, Digital TV ready" etc. Just add "3D-Ready" on the list, which essentially just means that it can input and output a true 120hz signal for use with active shutter glasses.
It's not even a feature you have to use, so why despise it?

same here. i'm very interested in buying an HDTV because it's clear how it enhances the experience. 3D? i'm not at all convinced. at most it's been an interesting gimmick, but to try to bring it home in the form of extremely costly devices and peripherals seems like such a terrible idea.

You don't have to wear the glasses every time you watch TV or play a video game. You only do if you want to watch/play in 3D.

From the post this morning on engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/14/sony-uks-3dtv-launch-includes-a-few-free-games-to-get-early-ado/) this is VERY misleading as Motorstorm is just a 1 track demo, NOT the full game!

Bahaha I shall climb the mountain and destroy Steve Jobs reality distortion field. It's a sad state of affairs when someone can make such a claim. I'd love to see the iPhone tackle Forza 3, GT5, Wipeout HD, even bloody Mario Kart.

Just because racing games are the best iPhone gaming genre, doesn't mean that its the best platform for them. Far from it, in fact.

I don't know if your comment is directed to his mention of Pulse or not, but if it is... he's referring to Wipeout Pulse on the PSP. All of the tracks in the initial release are remakes of tracks in the PSP games Wipeout Pure and Wipeout Pulse (most are from Pure).

Wipeout on the PS3 is a perfected, super high quality, of the PSP game (which is great).
There's nothing to be ashamed of there. Wipeout on the PS3 is one of the best values I've ever seen in gaming... it's an amazing game and it's a great challenge.
It's also an interesting splitter. People who love Wipeout hate Halo. Even though they are both futuristic and have great multiplayer, people who completed Wipeout never love Halo's single player games.
Why? Challenge. They are completely different kinds of experiences. Wipeout is very hard, and you have various disadvantages. You have to win via skill. Halo is incredibly easy. You're much more powerful than anyone else and most interactions with NPCs are them telling you how awesome you are. It's just a totally opposite experience.
Not bashing one of the other, just my insight.

Where did you come up with that? I've played, beat, and enjoyed all the Halo consoles releases and also love Wipeout. Surely I'm not some sort of exception here?

Well, there's always an exception, and like I said, not bashing one or the other.
But did you beat Wipeout on normal difficulty? (complete the full game?)
And you like the single player Halo modes rather than the more challenging multiplayer?
I think that's unusual. Sure, people can like completely different things, but Halo's single player modes are generally extremely easy, while Wipeout rewards people who want a challenge they have to practice. I think these games represent opposite tastes. While some people enjoy fine wine and malt liquor, mud wrestling and kung fu, I think generally people wind up in camps.
I['ve got a lot of friends who play Halo multiplayer, and the ones who also love Wipeout dislike the single player Halo's spoon feeding.
Surely you folks at least recognize the difference.

I've just never really noticed that trend. Yeah, I only play the Halo single player and co-op campaigns for the most part. I've been to a few LAN parties and played MP, but that's about it. However, I did play Warhawk for a while when the PS3 launched.
In general though, I don't do much MP these days. Mostly because I get very competitive and I really don't want to invest a ton of time into an MP game. I like to play a variety of games instead. Back in the UT days I was in a top clan for several years, but real life duties break up my time too much these days. Also, I'm not afraid of a good challenge, I did beat Demon's Souls after all.
Anyway, it's just not something I've noticed before.

No offense, but every product has disclaimers like that. They only put those on there to cover their butts in case of a law suit. I've used the Virtual Boy (and many other people have as well!) quite a bit and have had no problems what so ever.
Now, if they said you might get a really sore back from hunching over, then they'd be onto something. But avoiding a product because of a warning like this is ridiculous.
Oh and btw, the warning only applied for 6 year olds or younger on the Virtual Boy. Are you 6?
