There are two kinds of corporations in the US: those who count themselves amongst the top 500 companies, according to Fortune magazine, and those who can't afford Fortune magazine. And now Electronic Arts has managed to break its way into the august ranks of the Fortune 500, CNN reports, at number 494, to be exact. Despite emerging from a period of bad morale, layoffs and studio closures, it would seem things are looking up for ol' EA. Uh, not that we care or anything. EA is totally evil, right?

Looks like the gaming industry is all grown up now...
Cliffy B on Jimmy Kimmel? Infinity Ward corporate Scandals? EA on Fortune 500?
What next? A NASCAR team sponsored by Commander Shepard?

Yep, once corporate scandals start to happen the industry can play with the big boys.

Fortune 500 sounds like a NASCAR race already...

Let's make a NASCAR race, call it "Fortune 500", but instead of racing drivers, the CEOs of the companies would be driving.

The bad morale, layoffs and closures may seem bad right now, but they just picked up pretty much all of Infinity Ward with Respawn Entertainment. At the very least, that team is going to deliver some sick, and popular, multiplayer game within the next 2-3 years.
More likely, Respawn will come out with some new IP that is completely off the chain and will produce money for the better part of the next decade... Unless COD1, 2, 4 and MW2 were flukes.

Well, maybe I just hadn't heard, but I don't think any of the other IW employees have joined Respawn, yet.
Anyways, I am quite excited to see what they dish out. It'll be great to see something from them with a new engine.

in the 1990s you were the devil and you've decided to stop being the devil. i didn't buy EA games for 10 years because you killed Legends of Kesmai to streamline the audience into your more popular game, UO.
congratulations on finding a healthy balance between growing profit margins and producing high quality games.
as a gamer, i am happy to support a big mega-publisher like you if you don't ruin franchises, mistreat developers and exploit your customer bases in business models, (see activision, infinity ward, starcraft 2 business model)

I'm not gonna lie, the way you are directly talking to Activision is a bit creepy.

I hope they use some of this money they apparently have to hire a new web designer because their website BLOWS. OH and MUCH better servers for ALL of their game because I have yet to find and EA game that has good servers. GOOD servers, some have decent (C&C3). They do have quick and really nice tech support though. :) Mary ftw.

As much as I used to hate EA, I really have to congratulate them on shifting their business practices from 'yearly spam of the same bullshit' to focus more on originality. Granted, I'm sure they're still very much the same company they once were, I just don't find them to be nearly as 'evil' as I once thought they were.

I agree that (so far) they've been less evil right now. As long as they let their studios like Bioware and Respawn do their thing, I'll put up with project $10.
The only thing that worries me is that after their billion dollar loss, they stated they were going to cut down on the the risky new IP's. I really hope they reconsider this stance when they see the money that rolls in from the new IP's like Dragon Age and Dead Space and their respective sequels.

EA is no longer the evil company anymore. Ever since Peter Moore took over, EA has made a lot of improvements. They have a large variety of good games out now. Their sports games have improved a lot compared to a few years ago, however they do have a little ways to go though. I really like that EA Partners program that do with developers. Its really a great idea and one that I would think would be a wonderful deal for a developer. I mean just look at what happened to all those infinity ward guys, they have started the new Respawn team and are partnering with the EA Partner program. So I am happy for EA. I have recently and will continue to happily support them by buying their games. With that said I think that Activision is the evil company now, imo.

I first started to hate EA when they were somewhat aggressively trying to 'acquire' Ubisoft. I didn't buy a single EA game untill Dead Space came out, and since then the company became all kinds of cool again, their developers got tons of creative freedom and Visceral also got their own identity, EA realesed some risky games and even the sequel to army of two wasn't bad. So for now, I'm convinced.

Although I do pick up financial mags such as Fortune, Forbes, Smart Money, yada, time to time, just to see what's going on in a world where I have NO influence on, lol, I would have thought EA was already a 500 company, as large as they are. Ahh, well, what do I know? Ha.
Like some have said, EA has definitely righted the ship over the past 2-3 yrs and continue to do so. I was definitely one of those people who was getting tired of the lack of quality games from them for that period of time after initially being the cats meow. I was NEVER a hater, though. I just didn't think they were doing the right things and needed to improve their games. Glad they have and seeing that they are now a 500 co., they are definitely turning profits which will continue the influx of good to great games.
