Do you sometimes get jealous of your Xbox-owning friends that are able to download demos and DLC a day earlier than you? Don't worry, PS3 fans. Sony has a solution: Release content before Microsoft! Both the American and European PlayStation Store updates are moving to new days, starting in May.
Tuesdays become the new day for PSN updates in North America, as recently explained by Pulse's Christina Lee (pictured, above). In Europe, content will be updated on Wednesday, as explained by SCEE's Mike Kebby.
While this may seem like terrific news for PlayStation fans, we're pretty certain this is how the time wars begin. With Sony pushing earlier, Microsoft will have no choice but to retaliate by sending Major Nelson back in time to assassinate the unborn Kevin Butler! Don't worry, though. We're pretty certain he knows how to travel through time as well.
[Thanks, Doug M.!]

Its because they have to translate American into European!

Because Europeans have PlayTV and VidZone, and America doesn't. It's only fair you see. :)

Great, because America doesn't get enough stuff earlier than Europe already.

I'm glad I have a few weeks to prepare. I need to move my Seaman day to Thursday now and Power Stone tourny to Wednesday and cancel my time slot at the dojo with Fuku-san on Tuesday for Monday. I'll be ready, just you wait.

Cool? I'd prefer PSN updating 24/7 when something was approved, you know, so we can get RBN

It's tragic it took Sony this long to figure this out. I'll be happy when it rolls out but come on was this not obvious two years ago?

All Microsoft has to do is to pay game developers for time the exclusivity titles. Then the 360 will get those games and/or DLC a year earlier.

Been angry looking at Microsoft doing this the whole time of course! LOL Jizz people can't take jokes these days. LOL Oh well, I guess it was a bad joke then. >:oP
Though I knew I'd get down vote from either PS3 and/or 360 folks anyway. LOL sorry I meant no harm.

Seriously, what's the point of changing to Tue.? Just so Sony can post "FIRST!!!"? I'm all for friendly competition, but this is ridiculous. Why can't Nin, MS, and Sony just update their online networks on the same day?

I'm all for them bumping it to Tuesday but the question is will the weekly update be consistent? Or will it be like now where they update at around 8pm EST one week, 6pm EST the next, then 10pm EST the week after?
If they keep that up we'll definitely see more of "Where's the store update Sony!?" or "No update? Sony obviously doesn't me monies!" or even "I hate you Sony! I'm switching to Xbox!" in other blog posts like now.

Good going, Sony. I own both a 360 and PS3. The only reason I get most of my multiplatform downloadable games on the 360 is because it is released earlier. As long as Sony can start releasing the update at a normal time each week instead of whenever they feel like it, they will probably get more buys from me.
I have always liked how Microsoft has their updates already posted when I wake up Wednesday morning.

This is a great idea. As long as it doesn't consistantly take until 9pm to update. Mircosoft updates on update days VERY early in the morning. Playstation NEEDS to update early aswell if they are wanting to satisfy all the customers. People don't like waiting until well into the evening for an update.

This completely wrong blog post...and the comments that follow are why Sony continues to screw over customers (stuff like axing the pspgo backupdisc solution and pretending that players didn't want rumble in controllers).
Xbox doesn't just update once a week.
Xbox also updates at night...instead of inconsistent times like Sony. The Rock Band songs go live at 5 am on Tuesday, if PS3 fans are lucky they'll get them 13 hours late.
It's sad how many PS3 fans are under the mistaken notion that xbox only updates once a week, because it's not even close to true. Even on Sundays, the indie games are updated, demos pop up any day of the week including Saturdays sometimes, arcade games on wednesday, guitar hero on thursday.
But lets pretend PS3 is trying to outdo Xbox with this move.

But what's the "screw over" by Sony? Not really understanding your definition of a screw over. People over use phrases like "screw(ed) over" and such as if it really is a screw over.

Ahhh. Maybe I would have known this IF I had downloaded Pulse, last night, like I started to. The description of the ep didn't seem tantalizing enough for me to d-load it so I passed. I guess it's good news but does it really matter, though? Is there some sort of race with XBL or sumthin? There's still 6days in between releases. That doesn't change.
One thing I do wish they would do with this new day is release content earlier in the day on the US PSN. It seems they have settled on a 9P EST to currently release things on Thursdays but there have been plenty of times where it's happened much, much later. Some people have to work so those "late" time frames are tough. If they can stage their releases for 3A EST (12A PST) on Tues. so that people can have them avail when they get up or get home from work in the evening, that would be helpful. It starts the day off for the latest time zone which I think is fitting.

You're right that I was wrong to use screw over in this instance. I guess my point was that the terrible reporting and commenting by fanboys on Sony moves compared to the competition ends up hurting the consumer in the end.
Moving to Tuesdays will make Rock Band fans happier on PS3, but instead of falsely cheering this as bettering the competition, it would be more helpful for users if the blogger and commenters reacted with, "um good start..but how about concentrating on updating at a consistent time..and doing it off hours so that people don't have to waste time reloading the blog or checking the store when they're waiting to download something..." The execs at Sony doesn't have to make up silly things like customers prefer online updates once a week (that was on playstation blog interview year ago or so) because the blogs and the fanboys do the puffing for them.

Or are these console makers so intent on copying off one another that they even have to have the same dates?

I didn't think Microsoft will make the updates on Mondays, this could conflict with first day DLC and will not make sence. They just have to move their updates to Tuesdays and the bitching in both sides will end.
