Whether you're joking or not, I believe that Sony will tell us something at E3. Nintendo currently has a step up on them with the announcement of their new hand held.

Not joking.

EA cuts more support, nothing is announced beyond this year, now Room is dead. They're ready for PSP2.

Well, it does feel to me like PSP is due for an upgrade. The hardware is outdated, my cellphone have better specs than the PSP.
Whenever its coming, I just hope Sony doesn't screw it up like they did with the PSP Go.

I hope PSP2 isn't just about graphics, thats why PSP failed to begin with ¬_¬ People just port crap to it. I would like them to focus on the neccessities, PSN integration like PS3, friendslist, trophies, PSPchat (like a phone), Opera internet or likewise, because we all know PS browsers have a tendency to suck-a-lot. Besides that, I'd like nifty new hardware changes, not 3D, dont care for that, but motion, rumble, two nubs, touch screen, better cam >_< Comeon Sony. Tempt me!

Oh, and by 'failed' I'm not talking about overall, because it has performed very well taking into account the other handhelds that flopped before it, what I meant by that, is in comparison to DS sales and performance and now against iPhone.

No trophies, only way I would agree with trophies is on a PSPhone that's ALWAYS connected to PSN as the WinPho7 OS will do, still wondering how easy it will be to pirate those games....

If they aren't careful with how they do it then the trophy level systems integrity will be shit....

It was a closed beta in Japan to see whether or not the project would be worthwhile, and it wasn't based on the feedback, so door closed, end of discussion.

No, I'm glad Sony nipped this in the bud before it could fail in the market at large. The PSP has a tiny footprint here in the States, without adding superfluous features that seem novel at first, but become one more bullet on the "why I never turn on my PSP" list. Integration with the PS3 Home, and even access to Home via a PC app (say, through Facebook), would be a better approach. Don't give people *more* things to keep track of, make it a part of their already-existing daily lives. That, to me, is precisely why the Facebook Connect platform has taken off so readily—why would I want separate logins for common websites, when I can log in with my Fb ID everywhere? That's just smart product design.

I love my PSP, but I'd rather see its achievements on a social network I already use, be they Trophies or just little twitter-like updates to Fb or my PSN ID. Hopefully Sony saw that, and rather than try to CREATE new gaming culture, they're going to try to INTEGRATE their product with existing gamer culture.

The largest driving factor for me and my friends not connecting our PSP's online is because PSP's don't support WPA2 encryption on wireless routers. There's no way I'm going to lower my network security to play my portable when I have a PS3 sitting across from me. To add whenever I go out most of the places I go require a WPA connection too. Even my college requires it to get on the wireless.

For Sony to use the online network the have to see a large part of the community online and I don't see how that happens with most of the PSP's. When a lot of the people that are knowledgeable enough to use it rather not because how much effort it takes from the lack of hardware on the PSP...

Sony just needs to release the PSP2 already

If Sony were smart, they'd buy the Monster Hunter IP seeing as its thier biggest gaming asset at the moment and the only thing stopping it popping over to DS is graphics, which isn't much of an issue if Nintendo ever competed against Sony graphics wise.

To add to that, they would make PSP's online more sustainable and Monster Hunter PSP more accessible, both online and offline. It would be the pokemon of PSP. Then harware wise, make all the changes the gamers want.

What do you mean with that? That Nintendo can't compete againt's Sony in the graphics department?

This is the only gen that Nintendo has underpowered systems compared to the competition. Both the N64 and Gamecube had better graphics than the PS1 and PS2.

"What do you mean with that? That Nintendo can't compete againt's Sony in the graphics department?"

On the contrary, what I meant was that following in Sony's footsteps of great graphics wouldn't be an issue for Nintendo, a focus that Sony has been strictly on, its just that Nintendo's focus isn't on graphics, its on the ability to do more with your handheld, because graphics don't add to fun, they just make things more pleasent to look at. Its not that Nintendo "can't", its that they just don't see the need, its not as if DS is underperforming because it lacks graphical quality.

I was saying I think Sony should keep graphics in mind, but focus on other things, mentioned.

First off let me start off by saying Sony and Nintendo has 2 different strategies one for consoles and another for handhelds.

Sony's strategy has really never been graphics. It's more of adding new media. The thing that made the PS1 and PS2 a success were the fact that they pushed new media to the market. With PS1 never before were there moving videos in games or great cg custscenes besides on PC (unless you count Sega Saturn which was a complete fail). With PS2 it was DVD which allowed a lot more space and the scope of game to broaden.

Now the PS3 has Blu-Ray. To be honest why would a developer make a massive game if the console didn't have the horsepower to run it and keep the player "entertained" throughout? What would make them ever use up that CD, DVD or Blu-Ray? That's why Sony always had to push ahead on graphics.

Nintendo pioneers in interface. First to bring rumble to controllers along with the analog stick, first to bring a near-perfect wireless controller and experts at motion. Nintendo kicks but, at creating a great experience with new interfaces. Which in turn causes developers to succeed or fail miserably.

That's both companies strategies on the console front.

That brings me to the PSP. The PSP main objective was to bring a console experience to the handheld. Along with that Sony did their regular strategy of pushing a new media "UMD" which failed miserably due to pricing. Why pay $20 for a movie on UMD that I can get for the same price on DVD? But that's a whole different story the just of it is that PSP was always suppose to bring the console experience to the handheld and it does that for the most part. Sometimes too good ...

The Nintendo DS was meant to continue the trend of portable gaming. Short quick games that you can play 5-10 minutes, which give you a unique experience that you come back to again and again. They succeded in just that with bringing the Nintendo strategy of a new interface. The DS stylus allowed for a complete different experience and the dual-screen allowed a completely different view on portable gaming.

Did either company have the wrong strategy? No. Both companies have succesful platforms that did what they were suppose to do and even though Nintendo still has a large control over the portable market. You have to give it to Sony for penetrating a market that's been controlled by Nintendo for well over a decade...

And for that, Kudos to sony, but I still believe Sony could have done almost as well, if not just as well as Nintendo even the first time around if there was less piracy, more games, more reason for people to stick to thier PSP as first choice handheld device and more focus on areas that could make it easier for gamers to play thier games, with less ports then there was at the beginning of PSP's life span.

The way to avoid ports is to force devs into creating original games with different tech which was the case with DS. Don't get me wrong, I'm more then proud of my PSP and haven't found a replacement for it since I first placed my hands upon its shiny black surface back in 06 (apart from replacements with other PSPs as I've been through 2 originall 1000 models and now the 3000), its just dissopointing when I know there is so much more potential, quite a lot of it being fairly easy to implement, like PSPchat and a better browser and others not so easy.

I personally like Home. I'm not gonna go into why because it's nothing that hasn't been said before. I think it would be much more succsesful if it had more integration. As of right now it feels like it's own seperate app, we need things like a trophy room (perhaps one Home trophy per platinum?), or more Home unlocks from games, or even just be able to display your Home avatar as you PSN icon.

I third that, fan of Home here, that thinks there is plenty they could do with it. Much FOR the idea of unlocking game bonuses through minigames, its a nice promotional method. I'd also like a section of sports games for example that allow you to play with mates in a practice session, like mini astroturf 5 aside pitches for kick-abouts using your Home character against friends, or mini courts for basketball. Just adds more to the experience.

Honestly, I hated it. The game just lacked on every level for a JRPG, especially one that's tied to a game like Final Fantasy 7. I should have learned my lesson from Dirge of Cerberus.

The cutscenes were nice though, but I could have just youtube'd those.

If anything, I preferred CC more so then most of the console versions gameplay wise :/ I like to know when I've hit or missed something or base a death on my lack of skill and tactics rather then exp points, thus the reason I love Monster Hunter. Found the original 7's gameplay too cumbersome.
