Having taken several marketing classes in college, I can't fathom a reason for this. Are they worried that the "Tomb Raider" brand is tainted in the digital marketplace?

Hey I have an idea: Why not make games that don't involve jumping to land on a platform and inside falling down a cliff 500 times over the course of a campaign!

Yeah I know I'm due for downvotes for the mistype, but "inside" should be "instead." Sue me - you've done it before, too.

Just so we're clear, I downvoted for the logic rather than the typo. It sounds like you don't like (and or suck at) Tomb Raider.

Oh, hey, bradmeyerlive has taken a few marketing classes. He must know something that SquareEnix doesn't!

Retake your classes or take better ones...

Names and IPs are a big thing in gaming. If you can successfully split an IP into two different markets (for now at least) you just gained a new series with little creative investment and most important familiarity for the consumer.

If it fails, since it's technically not "Tomb Raider" the original IP comes out relatively unharmed while the new venture slips into oblivion.

The gaming consumer has made it clear it, sadly, prefers familiarity over new IPs. It seemed to work for Nintendo... I highly doubt Mario Party and the like would have done so well if they had new characters. And at the same time, this could succeed because it's not too gimmicky or far from the original series.

@ Sonos
I downvoted your upvote that countered the downvote. I think that the voting system is a useful way to get the general opinion of the community without having to count numbers of "I agree/I disagree" posts.

My concern "needing" this kind of distinction might mean that the Lara Croft games have less story then your average Tomb Raider. You know, about as much story as a mario game would have.

am i the only who thinks that "Lara Croft and Guardian of Light" sounds like someone re-worked Final Fantasy I to include Lara?
