Update: Capcom has officially announced both Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed 2. Additionally, a Capcom representative clarified some details about the MvC3 character roster for Joystiq: "We're not necessarily hyping the number of characters with MvC3, we're hyping quality. These aren't just sprites you can plug into the game. This is a full, disc-based release with gorgeous 3D models powered by the latest version of MT Framework. At this point, there are roughly 30 characters in the game, but that number will increase. You can rest assured that Niitsuma-san and his team will be working hard to include as many characters as possible before the game hits next year."
Original Story: There have been rumors swirling around about a sequel to Capcom's superhero-flavored fighter Marvel vs Capcom 2 pretty much since the game arrived 10 years ago. And given Capcom's recent success with a Street Fighter revival -- not to mention the sales rampage of MvC2 on XBLA and PSN -- the sequel rumor mill has once again begun turning furiously. This week's press-only Captivate event in Hawaii, held yearly by the Japanese publisher, is said to have showcased just such a sequel in Marvel vs Capcom 3 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, claims PlanetXbox360. At the same event, a sequel to Bionic Commando: Rearmed is alleged to have been announced, though no details were provided in the post.
According to the report, MvC3 will receive a retail release "later this year or early 2011" and will run in "full 1080p." Allegedly, while the full character list is unknown, some have been confirmed. "Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm, and a few others will be back; but the team behind MvC3 have said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes," alleges PlanetXbox360. The rumored sequel is said to be a nontraditional 2D fighter, which suggests that it could feature 3D elements, as seen in Street Fighter IV. PlanetXbox360 claims we'll hear more about the title next week and that the game will be playable at E3 this June. When reached for comment, Capcom told Joystiq, "We don't comment on speculation and rumors."
[Thanks Nathan Garcia!]
Editors' note: Joystiq did not attend Captivate this year. We determined the perceived environment, and associated downtime, of the event was not in accordance with our editorial policy. We expect to provide firsthand preview coverage of all Capcom titles shown at Captivate during E3 this June. For more information on our policies, click here.

2018, given how since 1998, when Megaman got his VS debut in Marvel VS Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, his own series got a proper sequel in 2008, Megaman 9. Meanwhile, Megaman Trigger's VS debut was Tatsunoko VS Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes, in 2008.

Even though Keiji Inafune has expressed his willingness to do another Megaman Legends game, I am not sure if Capcom is ready to let that happen yet. If they were it would probably be in production.
To be honest MML is best left to memory right now. If Capcom were to approve it they'd try to put all kinds of crazy stuff in there that is popular...might even try for a cover system, horde mode, and 4 player co-op.

While the other blogs definitely try for more professionalism this one clearly has it in writing. That is a rock solid and sound policy by the way!

HOLY CRAP!
I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. I know it's just a rumor, but most of the time, when the company says something like "We don't comment on rumor or speculation", it turns out to be true.

dear Capcom,
As a fan of the Marvel vs. Capcom series, i would like to inquire you to remove the annoying character selection music and replace it with something that does not make my ear gush out blood. It plays on and on and on and on leaving me wondering if there are more to the lyrics.
sincerely, solarshadows074

Yeah, I liked it for about 10 years, but it's getting a little long in the tooth for me.
I just hope the combos are a little less exploitable this time around. SFIV's success was based solely on the attempt of keeping balance within the roster (notice that I said 'attempt').
Having 30+ characters doesn't really sound like there will be balance, but I can't wait to see this game come to light!

am i the only one who is more excited about bionic commando rearmed 2 then anything else? :)
this has made my day!!!
bionic commando is still the only old arcade game i can go back to and still waste half a day beating it. That game is by far the best game thats on my hardrive, and i've downloaded almost every highly rated game on the servive.
the game was truly a masterpiece.

I too am excited for a Rearmed sequel. Any word if the old guys from Grin might use their new studio to make it? I thought the first one was a great homage to the Nintendo game though I haven't beaten it cause I can't get past the boss that shoots you from random angles.
I was saddened to see the PS3/360 version do so poorly in sales. It had it's moments but I see why people didn't like it/ After a while I just couldn't stand the controls anymore.

Joining in on the Deadpool train.
They had Cable in the 2nd. So it would just be insane not to have the merc with a mouth in the game.
Also, lets throw more villains in the game. Carnage is a must. Doc Ock would be cool.

As much as I would play it, as much as I would ADORE it, I don't believe for a minute there will be an MvC3. AFAIK, Capcom does not have the right currently to use the Marvel characters. Now what I WOULD like to see is a Capcom All-Stars that had alot of the Cappy rosters, including stuff that hasn't been in VS games yet. HAGGAR would be awesome, Arthur from G&G, bring back some of the Rival Schools characters, Breath of Fire, Viewtiful Joe.. I mean Capcom has some of the BEST franchises for a crossover game like this. While I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to see MvC3, I think an all-new vs game would be better.
