Raping young girls with tentacles is good clean family fun! As long as you can't see pubes anyway.

Please don't bring up that ignorant CNN article. Even I think the game is abhorrent, but that piece is such FUD that it makes me ill.

(it doesn't help that I am, in fact, ill. Damn you influenza.)

They're causing the developers to cut things out in order to meet a certain rating.

This means that people who buy the Japanese version of the game will end up not getting the full experience.

Japan is like, cutting their own leg off, dood.

Which is odd, because as I recall, the first Ace attorney's first case had a scene which showed the victims body bleeding just afeter being killed (you don't see the actual momment).

And that game was "T" for teen, so, what's the big deal?

As long as the control scheme doesn't blow, I'm hyped for this.

But ugh, I could never finish Portable Ops.

I played the demo, and the controls had me begging for the MGSPO scheme back. (Actually, I didn't mind the MGSPO scheme all that much to begin with.) But seriously, they are TERRIBLE. Unless you like aiming with the face buttons, not being able to crawl, go into FPV, or PAUSE, and having both movement type and CQC be dependent on the dexterity of the analog nub. Definitely try before you buy.

You can play Peace Walker with the Portable Ops control scheme... The demo even tells you that...

@Tomlinson: No, you can't. Believe me, I tried. The so-called "Portable Ops" control scheme is really just a slightly similar reconfiguration of the existing controls. It requires you to aim with the D-PAD.

They had to censor out blood to get a C rating? That's kind of weird, considering that MGS1, 2, and Twin Snakes got that rating as well, and Twin Snakes had this scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AzVGy6G9CM

I hate to be off-topic... but *sigh* I wish Wii games could look as good as that cutscene.

But yea, I'm wondering, was there some kind of weird cultural event to make CERO grade a game with plenty of blood differently from a game without?

What Wii games have you been playing? I can name plenty that have significantly better graphics than TTS. Heck, I can name plenty GAMECUBE games with better graphics than TTS. I can even name some friggin' PS2 games with better graphics. Let's just say it didn't push the envelope graphically; rather, it had good animation and direction.

And I remember reading another developer saying that the CERO has cracked down in recent years, though who knows for what reason. Kind of reminds me of the rumors that Japanese TV censorship received a crackdown in the 90's because of Evangelion.

This is not the first time this has happened to game where the U.S gets an uncut version and Japan gets censored.

There were some brutal 'infamous' crimes that happened in the past decade in Japan so movies, games and sometimes manga had to have been more sensitive towards depictions of violence than in previous years.

Not sure what people's definition of "censored" is in this thread (self? government?), but Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit had some sex removed from the US version of the game.

I never really understood these "ratings boards" all around the world.
ESRB, Cero, blah blah, etc... I thought these rating boards don't even have any legal power. So why do developers give so much shit about their ratings? Couldn't they technically release a game without a rating?

I might be totally wrong here, but if someone knows otherwise, please explain.

Stores almost always follow the ratings board, and will not sell or even stock a game that is either over a certain rating (that would be A in the U.S.) or are unrated.

In addition, I believe that Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony have all stated that any game rated AO will be refused license. But I could be wrong.

And, in America at least, the ESRB was set up specfically to keep the government from taking control of rating/censoring games which I'm sure would have been much worse.

Acosta02's right. No A-O game will ever see the light of day on any console. Which is kinda redundant. The difference between A-O and M is 1 year, and a 17-year-old is suddenly an entirely different person in mind and maturity when he turns 18, right?
