And we go back to the age old argument that this is nothing more than a blog site, albeit with a high viewership and advertising dollars, but it's still just a blog.

Settle down Mr. Facepalm.

In other words, you don't pay a god damn cent to view this site so what exactly is your gripe? Don't like it, stop coming, SIMPLE.

Sad news, indeed. I didn't know him for his role in the Rodney King incident, only for the Police Quest games both named after him and those he provided advice and some direction for. The Police Quest games were some of my first video games I ever played; I must have been around 4 or 5.

You just KNOW he's standing at the pearly gates, telling St. Peter that "You're in my way, sir..."

even though the police quest games were always a little bit annoying ( you had to do everything in the exact order following real police procedures) i got to admit they were good, although the first three which i think are the best were created by jim walls the fourth installment was a real jump as it had real digitized scenarios ( a huge jump back then) and as the article said he started the swat games, something that is still used to this days, rest in peace daryl, one way or another you gave something to this industry that we will never forget.

I remember playing all the Police Quest games. So much fun, I wish they'd bring back the series.

I so loved the endgame of PQ4: Open Season. It was just a brilliant example of a turn of events you never expected, immediately followed by a moment of epic greatness when you solve the puzzle. Lots of chances to screw up, but it went well for me on my second try.

Whenever I think about great game endings, that's one that comes to mind.

"Aaaaieee, aiieeee, aiieeee, aieeee!"

Well, Wikipedia mentions nothing about Walls' death so, by the laws of the wiki-ality, Jim Walls is alive and kicking

And it was just last week that I was thinking if there was ever going to be another Police Quest game in the series....

I owe this gentleman sincere thanks, as Police Quest II was one of the first computer games I had ever played, thus opening the world of computer games into my life.

Rest in Peace, good buddy.

Ah, FMV games. SWAT set the tone nicely at the start, when the tutorial instructor at the academy would yell at you and restart his lecture if you tried to click through and skip his little presentation.

Yeah, let's glorify the creation of SWAT, great idea. SWAT was created as a response to the overwhelming violence pouring out of the streets due to the trillion dollar black market drug trade industry, which spawned in response to the "War on Drugs" so foolishly embarked upon by old, rich men to further line their pockets with money while again enslaving the poor to do their labor for pennies on the dollar in American prisons.

The amount of clean-up our generation would have to do after the "greatest generation" and "baby boomers" are gone just sickens me; and boggles the mind of anyone who is informed, and educated, as to what has happened in this country since World War 2. Stop glorifying people who have profited from the whoring of this country and it's people.

It goes beyond party lines, it is a fundamental failure of our government to continue to operate for the people and by the people. We no longer control this country, big business and the banks that control those businesses now control our government. They tell politicians what laws to make and politicians cling to the strings these corporate puppet master have them tied to.

Good riddance Darryl Gates, how could you not fire those cops after beating that poor man almost to death? You deserved to lose your job, L.A. deserved those riots, and this country is headed for much worse unless the politicians and lawmakers get their heads out of their asses.

As someone who grew up in LA, I was no fan of Chief Gates. When Sierra announced his involvement in the Police Quest series, it really disappointed me to see one of my favorite game companies get involved with him. It really made me rethink my opinion of Sierra, since they could hardly be unaware of his controversial record and divisive tactics as Police Chief. I never played any of the Police Quest games (Space Quest And King's Quest was more my thing), so I can't comment on their quality. But once his name was attached, that pretty much ensured I wouldn't pick one up. That said, I take no joy in his passing.

Police Quest was just plain weird... You've got Sierra, a company known for making these awesome, and sometimes funny adventure games, and they bring out this game that isn't funny in the least, and when you think about it, are really more of a recruitment tool for the LAPD.

Eeh, I think Police Quests reflect the time they were made pretty well as television was full of cop dramas in the 80s. PQ1 has a very obvious Hill Street Blues vibe to it while PQ2 is almost as Miami Vice as Miami Vice itself. Not all of Sierra's games had to be funny all the time (PQ definitely had its tongue-in-cheek moments as well.)
