"...except if you're trying to read one on your way back from the store..."

Given that I'm a week from turning 18, I'm slowly running out of time to do that on the way home from Gamestop with my mother driving the car, especially with college around the corner, lol. Oh well. I guess it was gonna happen eventually. Goodbye manuals, you will be missed... :'(

going green in this case means we are trying to save money.

i miss when mannuals were a great part of the game, they were in color there was some design work put into them instead of this black and white crap we get now.

Well, considering that the manuals nowadays are little more than displays for the controller config, the EULA (ESPECIALLY the EULA), adverts and the credits, the loss isn't that great.

I fondly remember the time when I opened my first edition copy of Civ III and got a nice fat 234-pages manual that not only explained every friggin' facet of the game (which ALSO had a well-done tutorial, btw), but was simply fun to read due to a truckload of helpful hints and tips strewn in. Made me a better Civ player too.

Go green, my ass. It's just a way to increase the bottom line.

tehy are not doing this to be more green. they are doing this because they are losing money and found where to cut cost.

Ubisoft losses me as a consumer PERIOD!!! They wanna be cheap bastards then they don't get a dime from me. Keep the damn manual in it you cheap ass manufacturing "gotta make as much money as possible" developer.

Notice when their games hit the market that NONE of their games will become cheaper and reflect savings on us when they profit from the manufacturing savings.

As long as you can read it while playing, and not just in the main menu - I dont care.

this sounds like total BS to me. I think it's just an excuse to save a few cents on each package and still charge the same retail price. Plug they get the added bonus of toting the Green buzz words.
I'm all for more enviormentaly friendly products and packaging. But this is nonsence!
I do agree that somes games don't need manuals BUT if can be very helpful for too. I hope this is not a trend that other companies fallow.

We're saving paper by removing the manual and going green...

...so we can cram more paper ads for other games in there instead.

hmm i wonder wut it will look like w/o the manuals...will it still have that clip thingy that holds them..?

maybe next gen games will be manual-less. i always thought they were kinda useless since everything i needed to know was in the game already.

Well, I suppose I'll get on the green bandwagon too. Here's my way of doing it, I'll save you, Ubisoft, the price of printing the cover, pressing the disc, making the case, and shipping a copy of your game unless you slash prices by $10. You've already cut content from your games to use later as DLC and now you're getting rid of manuals for a profit of what, $5 per release per year?

The more physical stuff that gets removed the less I expect to pay.

The savings aren't getting passed onto the consumers. Whether that's manuals or even using less plastic in the cases we simply aren't seeing any kind of retail price reductions.

Save the Earth, save it all day long...but save me some damned money while you're at it.

This is a terrible move and indicates that Ubisoft games will now have a serious lack of depth.
Old Timer Rambling: Back in the late '90s, I played Baldur's Gate and had a serious problem getting past some evil mages. I read the instruction manual, checked out all my available spells and effects and then was able to defeat said evil mages.
Manuals have been on the decline for years, for several years EA Sports manual's Career Mode section has been check for prompts in game. This whole thing is another sign of the unending greed of corporations and if I didn't have to see how the Assassins Creed trilogy ends, I would never buy another Ubisoft game. I will make sure to buy AC3 used though. I also use my crystal ball and predict that Ubisoft will be the first company to release a AAA title exclusively through digital distribution.

A cost-cutting measure that will hurt customers, but a PR boon at the same time. GG Ubisoft.

In a statement to IGN, Ubisoft addressed the financial issue and said, "The digital game manuals will be for Ubisoft games going forward. While the company will save money on paper, it's unclear if these costs will be offset by the labor of the development team to create a more robust game manual within the game."

Also, for those that want their game to be cheaper since there is no manual, I guess you wouldn't mind if the game was more expensive if it had a larger manual (Dragon Age or Oblivion for example). And why should I pay the same price for a game that was made for $10 million vs a game that was made for $80 million?

Ugh! F@#K Ubisoft! and F@#K trees! ;) Seriously though... I like manuals with my games and actually refuse to buy games without manuals. Are they going to include a Spanish guy named Manuel instead to read me the instructions and draw artwork for me?
