Rumored over the weekend to have been revealed at Captivate 2010, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 is now official. The game is slated to once again hit Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in Q1 2011 -- no PC version has been announced. While fans might have hoped development would be helmed by Might & Delight, the studio formed by the ex-Grin staffers responsible for the original Rearmed, the task's been handed to Fatshark, the studio behind Lead & Gold.
The sequel sees Nathan Spencer return, this time fighting the presumably evil General Sabio, "a new technologically sophisticated foe," who is "on the brink of launching a deadly missile attack." Rearmed 2 also promises new weapons, two-player co-op (no word if it's online this time) and new tunes from the same composers who created the brilliant soundtrack for the original Rearmed.
Of course, none of that is important because, as the debut trailer makes quite clear, Nathan has learned how to jump.
It definitely didn't make it confusing and unintuitive. Complaining that Rearmed didn't have a jump button is like complaining that Metroid Prime didn't have dual analogue controls, or Zelda only lets you jump when you reach a ledge. It was a deliberate design, and it works flawlessly for the game.
Then again this is the same comment section that complained about Mirror's Edge controls being more involved than Assassin's Creed II's a few months back, so I wouldn't expect anything less.
The game was nearly perfect, and it all flowed brilliantly when you got the hang of things, and it was ultimately all the better for not having a jump button. Then again, I'm sure a vast majority of commenters have only been gaming since the PSOne/N64 or even PS2 eras here, so what else is new. If the game's too hard, complain. If the game's too easy, 'I'm sick of all this hand holding!' Yada.
agreed. I hope this new game has 24-bit losslessly compressed music assets. The first game's soundtrack is probably my favorite of all time. I wish I could get my hands on a lossless version of it!
Well at least you're being honest. But seriously, MML fans were demanding the shit out of Capcom for MML3 and what we got was Megaman 10 and now this. Sure they may be good, but come on Capcom, A FREAKIN' CLIFF HANGER?!?!!?
the bit about jumping was laugh out loud hilarious, whoever put this video together deserves a pat on the back.
I enjoyed the first Rearmed (well, I also enjoyed the original NES version and the more recent Bionic Commando on 360), so I'm pretty sure I'll purchase this game as well. The first game I believe released for 800 points - don't get stupid Capcom and bump the price up to 1200 or you'll lose a sale! :)
So, you enjoyed the 360 Bionic Commando and yet you call it an "epic failure". You sir, are an idiot. It wasn't an a bad game, it was fun and well worth at least a rental that received decent ratings and decent sales. The worst part of the game was the main characters long hair and terrible voice acting (where's Nolan North when we need him!)
Oh, and would people stop using this whole "epic" "fail" "epic failure" crap... it sounds pathetic.
Yea, I'm glad it's a ways off too. I still need to finish the first one. I haven't seen anything in this trailer that makes me want to pick up the sequel though. Appears to be a "rinse and repeat."
Wow, pretentious much? He used 'epic failure' just like that -- in quotes -- to show he was using others' words to identify the game. He also started by saying he liked the game, so I would think it;s pretty obvious that he, you know, likes the game.
Next time, try counting backwards from 10 before you reply.
I can, and probably will still buy it, or at least play it, even though it's not on my 'list' anymore, you know. I'm just no longer excited for it, which sucks because it was easily in my top three most wanted games for the moment.
yeah . . . i kinda feel like having a jump button opens up the possibility a little too much. Having a jump button can easly leed to bad game design.
the fun thing about rearmed was seeing a ledge that was out of reach and knowing that you could get there somehow but only had one way to do it. Now that he'll be able to jump, this will probably make getting to certain spots either too easy to do or more obscure to find the answer to.
Having played the original as a child, my idea of what Bionic Commando should be flies in the face of game design. Even if this makes the gameplay more enjoyable for younger generation I still appreciate the lack of a jump button.
Purchasing this will entirely depend on how much expendable points I have, and availability of quality games to play.
