Back during X10, Capcom revealed Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, the stand-alone prologue exclusive to Xbox Live Marketplace that will bridge the gap between the first and second game. It will introduce the sequel's protagonist, Chuck Greene, father and master of duct taping stuff, as he works to free himself and his daughter from the desert town of Still Creek -- two years after the events of the first game, but three years before the events of the sequel.
Shacknews managed to secure the details while at Captivate in Hawaii, and says Capcom promises Case Zero will have "unique content not available in the full retail release of Dead Rising 2." Sadly, there's no mention of price or release date for Case Zero, but rest assured: You still have plenty of time to stock up on Zombrex before Dead Rising 2 launches on August 31.
Editors' note: Joystiq did not attend Captivate this year. We determined the perceived environment, and associated downtime, of the event was not in accordance with our editorial policy. We expect to provide firsthand preview coverage of all Capcom titles shown at Captivate during E3 this June. For more information on our policies, click here.

I can already see where all of this is going with our new Dead Rising 2 hero:
Chuck Green, he's....duct taped stuff together before, ya know....
You've heard it first here, folks.

Boo, I still wish Frank West was a playable character in this game. That guy was awesome.

Sorry, but what are everyone's opinions on the first game?

Worth getting now for sure. You'll definitely have to level up a bit before you attempt to complete the main story, though. The time constraints are unforgiving.

I had a good time with Dead Rising. There are a few frustrating moments, and the game's difficulty will remind you of older games, but it's fun overall.
It's pretty easy to coast through and wonder what the big deal is - but if you take the time to figure out how you can save as many people as possible, it's a very rewarding game when things go according to plan. And of course, you can always just forget about the big picture and find unique ways to kill zombies.

Some gameplay issues but nothing major.
One of the things I personally hated was in relation to the main story line, since the game is a free-roaming experience, you'll have to go to specific places at certain times to make the story progress. Missing it would cause the main story to completely stop which I thought was a stupid idea ... why not give the play a second chance with a second meeting time and place?
Also ... zombies were regenerating. Not a fault in the game, I thought it would have been cooler if the number of zombies you killed actually affected their population.

I got it used for $18, and it's certainly one of those games you'll want if you love Capcom, cheese, and zombies. The game screams for an upgrade when you play it though... especially its horrible saving functionality and time constraints.
Really tough at first... if you're going to plan on completing everything, replay the first 30 minutes or so and restart the game (your stats will stay the same) to level up quickly. I'm still getting past the steep learning curve myself, but still having a blast.
If you have faith in Capcom, though, I'm sure you could just wait for the 2nd one to come out. It looks like it has lots of potential to be twice as good as the first.

One of my favorite 360 games. When it first released, I was like "Finally! A next gen zombie game!" complete with lots and lots (and lots) of zombies. Achievements aren't as hard as some make them out to be. They are varied and actually quite fun to get. One thing can be said for sure about this game: The friendly AI is about as dumb as the zombie AI, which means that saving everyone can seem impossible at times. Also, don't play this game if you have an SDTV! It will destroy your eyes if you attempt to read the text.

No, no... the save system seems a little archaic, but frankly the game wouldn't be challenging if it weren't for that, and if it weren't for the time constraints. Time management is crucial!

Cool. I'm still unsure of whether I'll buy or rent this due to my mixed feelings of the original. It's one of those games I loved and hated at times.

It's probably timed exclusive like most things are now. Just like the GTA DLC episodes.

Ya but we had to wait 2 years for GTA. They totally screw a few hundred thousand if not million customers, how does this make sense to them. Creating ill will with the customer. I'm a huge anti-fan of Capcom right now and this isn't helping.
