So true! A few months ago, I purchased The Legend of Zelda on VC for my kids to play on the Wii. As a "test", I played through the first three dungeons to see if it was still as fun as I remembered it. It is, and I know now how much better I am at gaming now than I was back then. Think I'll go ahead and "test" out the other 6 levels before this game comes out.

I'm very exciting for this game. I love what Atlus has been doing lately on PS3. They take risks with thier games; something most developers do not. Keep pumping out the great games and I'll keep buying them.

@bass: Atlus did not develop this. Do people not know the difference between developers and publishers? It's like saying Bloomsbury Publishing created the Harry Potter books.

I'm ashamed to say I never played the original Zelda, and I'm worried that I won't like this game without the nostalgia. I'll give it a try, at least.

You won't. I'm a huuuuuge Zelda fan but I can admit it hasn't exactly aged gracefully.
Then again, some of my friends swear by it, so maybe it's just me

Despite Ben being unfairly downvoted for his comment, he's correct.

The original LoZ is very hard to play by modern standards. It was brilliant in its time, but we've learned too much about game design since then to really enjoy this kind of experience. It's completly without form, and finding the dungeons is a matter of lighting every bush on fire and bombing every rock. That isn't fun, unless you've played it before and just remember where the things are, and forogt how much it sucked to find them the first time.

The dungeons are still decent, but don't have the tight design of the later games.

Really -- if you want to play a classic LoZ game, play Link to the Past or Link's Awakening, both of which are fantastic. But the original? Come on guys -- put your nostalgia away for a few minutes, and be honest.

really curious about this game and the great review has really sparked my interest. It's going to be fascinating to see the meta-reveiw for this. (although I know that they aren't always valid)

Hrm, what game to get when the $$$s are so tight? This, Red Dead Redemption or should I wait for Transformers?! Aarggh the decisions!

Hey JC - or anyone - do we know if there is a 2nd quest, 3rd quest, etc like in the original Zelda games?

I am picking it up no matter what but it would be nice to know if there is more to it than one play through...

There's a 2nd quest, or New Game+ as it's often called that carries over money and certain items from your previous quest. Some of the story dialogue is even supposed to change to take into account you've done it all before.

Know what MLS, I don't blame you for this being the reason that breaks the camel's back and makes you get a PS3. Shadow Complex, a $10 XBLA downloadable title, was the reason I finally felt like I couldn't go on without buying a 360, since I was one of those weirdos that liked gaming on the PS3 before the price drop XD

Solid review. Pretty much sealed the deal for me. I didn't like any Zelda after Link to the Past. I tried most of them but I always ended up back to playing LTTP. With that said, this game looks promising.

Digi- : "INCONCEIVABLE!"

You are kidding right? Just curious... I mean do you not really play video games or did you just spend $600+ dollars for a launch system just to watch bluray?

There's also been other 2D Zelda games since ALTTP, if you only just disliked the 3D Zelda games...

Link's Awakening (GB/GBC)
Oracle of Ages (GBC)
Oracle of Seasons (GBC)
The Minish Cap (GBA)
Four Sword Adventures (GC)

@Aarrowgant. I went to the launch with a friend all happy to get a PS3 but I never liked any of the games for it. Guess I just fell into the hype. I am glad I have it still because I have backwards compatibility which Goozex will take care of for me. There are quite a few games, recently, I want so it will get its share of play soon enough.

My rate of game purchases for my PS3 are about 1 a year, the rest are played via gamefly. The online infrastructure specifically being one of the main reasons I can't bring myself to buy multiplatform titles on it or online enabled titles on it. MAG being the last title I bought, which was fantastic but it suffered heavily from Sony's decision on PSN and headsets. I really wish this was on Steam. It would sell tremendously well if pushed through Steam.

"Or, rather, it's a parody of the Zelda series executed so perfectly that it is itself an excellent Zelda game."

That is something so rare to find in games. Usually games that try to pull off parody or satire seem to forget that they are also supposed to be good games.

I didn't realize it was still like weeks away from release though. This makes me sad.

Can you change the appearance of your character mid game?

jbni - You can't change mid-game per se. Every time you load up a save file game, you're given the option to switch character models though, so you aren't stuck with the same character for the entire game if you want to switch it up. Hope that makes sense.
