Still waiting for the next big MMO like WOW. Sometimes I feel these companies are wasting their time =\

So because these companies' games haven't reached the popularity of the market's runaway leader, they're all failures? I think they have different ways of judging success.

Did I say they were all failures? Most of these MMOs bomb after a short period. Don't put words in my mouth. I simply said I feel these companies are wasting their time, and looking forward to an MMO that beats out WOW. If you read into that it shows that I have hope for companies like these, that they do well, and succeed. Don't troll me.

Well, your a possible do-che. Fill in the missing letter :D. He didn't really put any words into your mouth but just due to connotations associated with the words you used. Perhaps if you choose your words more wisely or pick words without negative connotations you'd be better understood and trolled less?

LOTRO has been around for almost 4 years now. So on your comment that 'most of these mmorpgs seem to bomb after a short time', that would be a 'I'm a do-che, have no idea what I'm talking about and didn't even take the time to wikipedia the game or learn information about it but want my voice to be heard!'

Secondly, you implied all these MMORPGs seem to be wasting their time which someone took as meaning failing. To which you retorted and argued your do-chy comment was not a do-chy comment. Really, if someone spends years in a relationship and it turns out they 'wasted their time?' chances are the relationship 'FAILED'. FAIL. Get it?

How about if a company spends year working on a title like Duke Nukem Forever and it ends up getting canned before ever even going gold? Some employees and the developers making the game might say it was all a 'waste of time' since in the end the game FAILED. FAIL. Get it?

When you said the all the MMORPGs seem to be wasting their time compared to Wow's success, you basically did imply they(most mmorpgs) fail.

Just because you take my words out of context doesn't decrease my initial statement. Simply put, say whatever you want. I explained my wording already. If you still feel I am bashing every other MMO, so be it. That isn't my prerogative in life to make sure every little thing doesn't hurt your feelings. I have more important things to do, just as you do. So quit bickering about something you misunderstood.

Anyone that knows Turbine's history is probably moaning at hearing about this. Companies do so much better when they're independent.

He's right. Its not always true. Just look at Blizzard.

Since Activision was merged Blizzard when it was bought out by Vivendi, we now don't get to enjoy Starcraft 2 just once but we get to enjoy it three seperate times as we pay for each campaign seperately in installments!

I remember buying Starcarft 1 and thinking, wow these three campaigns lasted me a long time. Like 20 hours! I sure do wish this experience had been cut into three seperate discs so each disc contained only 6 hours of gameplay and I had been given the chance to pay triple the cost and buy each one seperately. What do you know, my dreams came true too!

Maybe they are have come to realize that video games are the future of entertainment and movies are slowly taking a backseat.

This ^^. I know a lot of people who would rather raid in WoW or finish the few levels of God of War 3 for an hour or two than go play ten dollars to watch a movie in a crowded theatre they can download at home 2 months later.

If you have any questions about how WB will effect Turbine, just ask the devs and community of Matrix Online who were around before they sold it to Sony.

Thought Microsoft owned Turbine? Or was that a long time ago (just checked Wikipedia, I guess that was a long time ago), it's been a while since I played Asheron's Call.

Played DDO after it went free, but it didn't capture my interest much although I liked that it was free and supported through microtransactions revenue. Currently on DarkFall, and while I had high hopes for a full PvP loot-oriented MMO without levels or classes, it turns out that grinding for skill and attribute percentages is even less exciting than levelling, and not being able to be competitive in PvP until you spend an intolerable number of hours doing tedious tasks is not my idea of fun. Considering trying Mortal Online, but I can't get the damn thing to work without crashing. It may need some more time in the oven...

Won't someone please make a less-grind-intensive MMO?! People have lives and don't necessarily want to pay X-amount per month just to spend most of it doing endlessly repetitive and pointless tasks just to become half-way decent. I suspect most people want a game that is easier to pick up and play, with an emphasis on time investment in the roleplay aspect of the character (as opposed to number-crunching) and its advancement as much in the social aspect of the world (as opposed to just game mechanics). If anything, spamming up skills/levels is anti-roleplay and despite the 'Massively Multiplayer' moniker, most MMOs lack any sort of meaningful social interaction, which I think is a major fail. Especially in this age of social networking, an MMO that doesn't have extensive and convenient tools for social interaction are probably missing what was arguably one of the best aspects of oldschool MUDs: the people. I've yet to see an MMO that really understands that or solves the problem of how to successfully implement it in the context of a 3D game.

Roleplay is also greatly missing from most MMORPGs, which I think is a pity. Although RP on MUDs when done badly can result in a lot of misused 'thee's, 'thine's and 'thou's, the best of it worked very much like immersive and interactive fantasy fiction. There has to be a better way to rework that kind of interaction into a 3D realm than has been done so far. Too many MMOs resort to Out Of Character interaction in favour of number-crunching and game mechanics advantages, and forget the point of even having a fictional fantasy (or science fiction) setting for the game at all.

BRING BACK ASHERON'S CALL!!!! First one is still best MMO for content and story, Was always better than EQ. AC2 bombed, so use the AC2 engine and redo AC1, people are still paying for this game at standerd MMO prices per month for a game that is 10+ years old.
