1st things 1st. I don't understand your comment, yet I thumbed it green straight away because I can't stop laughing.....

Now on to business. I just got to rank 30 today. I feel I am an 'ok' player and I have put a decent amount of time into the game. Rank 50? dang.

yea and worth it i'd say... Bad Company 2 is my favorite FPS i've ever played. I like how it takes a very long time to max out the rank, it makes it more rare to have higher ranked players. You can certainly maintain a reasonably quick rank climb if you try and unlock insignias and pins as you go. That been said, everyone in BC1 hit rank 25 in no time... and once you unlock everything around rank 25 in BC2 ranks mean very little other than how much free time you have... but still its cool to see a big variety of ranks rather than just everyone at max rank like most games.

Quick ranking tip:

Find a squad of four and join a "Squad Rush" game. Then coordinate everyone to become the "Engineer" Class, with the lightweight perk on. Then, only use your repair tool to kill the enemies by camping certain routes and sneaking up on them from behind.

Hilarity and big points will soon take place.

Seems accurate.

While it's definitely a lot of play time, it means you will still have a goal to work towards long after you've unlocked all items (at around level 22).

keep in mind that people keep playing once they are max level in order to stay atop the leaderboards, so the hours played once you reach the highest rank is grossly over estimated.

@Brian.

That doesn't make too much sense though. If you look at the graph, the average amount of hours a level 50 has played doesn't look significantly higher than the other levels. It still looks like you have to put in around a shitload of hours to get there.

49 hours, going on rank 26. Yeah it's time consuming. 282 hours is a lot for some, and not a lot for others. It also would shorten the amount of time down if you can get all your pins and insignias quickly. Medic is good for points when defending. Use lots of heals and revives. Engineer is good for attacking when vehicles are involved. Otherwise pick up that gun and start shooting!

Does ranking up even matter once you unlock all of the "all classes" stuff? Heck, I'm one weapon away from polishing off Assault also, and at that point I could never rank up again and I'd be perfectly fine.

I've got all the tools I need to be successful, so who gives a damn if someone spent fifty or two-hundred more hours than me to get a higher ranking - they'll take a headshot and die like anyone else.

Fortunately I'm totally mediocre and obsessed with teamwork, so personal bragging rights are never than big of a deal for me in an online game.

Middle of the pack but in the best squad? You betcha.

Yeah the importance is unlocking all the weapons and specs, then just having fun. It's a lot more enjoyable when you aren't aiming to accomplish something other than just kicking back and playing with some friends.

The one "benefit" of ranking up is that you get paired up more with people of similar or higher rank on the same team.

I have definitely found this to be true.

@Grey_Ryuk
Wikipedia gave me this:

"In social science, a social relation or social interaction refers to a relationship between two (i.e. a dyad), three (i.e. a triad) or more individuals (e.g. a social group). Social relations, derived from individual agency, form the basis of the social structure. To this extent social relations are always the basic object of analysis for social scientists. Fundamental enquiries into the nature of social relations are to be found in the work of the classical sociologists, for instance, in Max Weber's theory of social action. Further categories must be established in the abstract in order to form observations and conduct social research, such as Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft (lit. "Community and Society") or "collective consciousness"."

sweet. Definitely can see myself putting that much time into this game. Wish shooters were less popular because there are to many on the market....that's why many shooters are quickly forgotten while very few are played for years. At least on consoles.

Not really. You can have all weapons/specs/extras unlocked in a much shorter time. Everything after that is just for your personal gain. There's no achievements of pins/insignias for reaching a high rank. I suppose the only time consuming one would be playing for 5 days insignia. But to get the most out of it you aren't required 280 hours. You could have all unlocks in 20-30 hours.

On the contrary I think the longevity of the game is whats made such a huge success. Going on sales data it's safe to say they haven't lost many, if any, gamers at all.

You dont want to know how long it takes to get to 10th prestige + all the challenges (legit). Its like a sickness.

Anybody that can get to 10th prestige either deserves a medal or some kind of therapy. I'm on my second prestige and level 66 and I am forcing myself to get to level 70. These last few levels take forever.

Looks like therapy then. And nope, definitely more time in MW and MW2. I got 10th + all challenges in MW spread out over a year and a half so it wasnt so bad. In MW2 though im estimating its taking twice as long in game time since its pretty much the only game Ive played since November.
The shit ive seen and heard, I just want it to end.

yes! it does takes a long time, lol. but im happy i reached that 10th prestige at the end of march and level 70 in less than 10 days. I do put lots of hours won't tell you how many days lol . but is really not hard to rank up. you must complete the challenges for your perks,killstreak, etc and all your weapons that includes your shotguns, machine pistols ,pistols and launchers aswell. yes I need therapy lol.

takes about 2 days to prestige, so about 200 or so hours and you can be prestige 10. That's if there all decently pointed games...
