Sometimes it seems like hardcore = quality, and casual = sucky.. Do developers think casual gamers don't care about quality? There are some exceptions, mainly with the Nintendo brand on them, but I would encourage Sega to make whatever it wants for the Wii, just please make it good and something you can play and enjoy for more than a couple weeks.

Then that would mean MadWorld would be a "casual" game. Because it sucked. Maybe Sega should make a good game for traditional gamers.

Releasing one okay FPS, which was quickly ruined by hackers, a short beat 'em up in black and white (Everyone I know refuses to get the game due to t being black and white) and a glitchy Rail Shooter is not doing your best.

None of those were made by SEGA anyway, just their publishing arm

Stuff that Sega's made internally for the Wii has been rather successful, with the sad exception of NiGHTS 2.

Figured they would have to say that, whether they did say those things or the media just blew them up (equally likely. The media loves flamebait), they probably got a stern talking to from Tokyo

Successful, maybe, but I felt like the Wii's monkey balls were not as good as the gamecube ones.. And I have no love for my copy of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games... Neither of these games were totally horrible, but I felt like Sega was making much nicer stuff on the Gamecube...and of course, excellent stuff on the Dreamcast.

Khan, publishers have a lot to say on what gets made into the final cut of a game and what it'll look like.
Granted I own all three said titles the last two, in my eyes, were good games. OVERKILL being the best.

Most hardcore gamers don't like games like Madworld. A lot of them were pretty sick of these 3D action-adventure games when they started flooding the market 10 years ago, and everybody is sick of bloated games stretched to a crawling pace because the publishers don't have the balls to make a game so good that they aren't afraid everyone will sell it as soon as they play through it once.

Writing off hardcore Wii gamers because Madworld, the Conduit, and Headstrong's House of the Dead didn't sell very well is stupider than saying motion controls will never be fun just because nobody has made a fun motion-controlled game yet.

All Sega needs to do is make dense, high-quality games the way they consistently did throughout the 80's and 90's. They have to do stop outsourcing classic franchises to companies like Sumo Digital, stop putting wonky motion controls in the games, and stop making bloated games with levels over ten minutes long. If any company actually tried to make games as good as Yakuza and Valkyria Chronicles on the Wii, they would successfully sell to hardcore Wii owners.

Gunblade NY is a promising start.

Part of your problem is that they'd look like crap, and wouldn't control much better. Asking someone like Sega to take a big risk when they've been burned so many times...

I'm pleased to see that spewing vitriol over all motion-controlled games and every game remotely reminiscent of Devil May Cry has gotten such a warm reaction. You all have made my day!

In all seriousness, I'm worried that Sega has focused too much on publishing other developers' games, and while Platinum Games' releases so far seem to be reasonably high-quality entries in genres that just don't appeal to me, most of the games Sega has published have been forgettable dreck like Iron Man. I think it's hurting the value of the Sega brand, making it so the average gamer is no more likely to buy a Sega game than a THQ game, and that's when you know you have problems.

If you read my other comment I own all three. MadWorld? Was consumer and developer. Consumers don't like black and white anymore, devs should've known that (but they're not bitching about poor sales, Sega is). Conduit? Hackers ruined the online MP, which was what made it okay. The story was flat out BAD. And it started out as good untill you realised the game's story and level design were both very shallow. Once again Dev and Consumers/hackers. House of the Dead? The game would constantly lock up and stop moving for a good 3 minutes at random times. Models would load wrong, guns wouldn't properly reload, and other stuff. That's purely on the developers for letting such glitches exist.
Now, here's a hidden thing, these are also all publisher faults!
Conduit? Sega could've said to redo the levels, despite HVS going to them with the game 85% done, and fund the levels, as publishers should do.
MadWorld? They could've demanded the game go into color, or sell it on two discs, color and non-color. (Sakura Wars does this but with Jap and English discs. So both markets would be pleased, those who wanted the game in Jap and those who wanted it in English could choose their disc of choice). House of the Dead? they funded that project from the start. It's their fault that such a glitchy game made it through their approval to be sold process.

As you see it's on everyone here, except OVERKILL. Which was an amazing game, when it wasn't glitching out.

Most people I know were going to buy OVERKILL untill they tried it out at my place and saw how glitchy it was. Same thing with MadWorld untill they saw how repatitive it was, and that it was in black and white. With Conduit most people liked it untill they saw the third stage. To them that was the decline, same for me.

However I will pick up sequels to all of these games to give them a second chance.
Just like when I get th emoney I'll get RedSteel 2, despite RedSteel 1 being GOD AWFUL.Most people I know wont give RS2 a chance due to how bad the orignal was.

It doesn't help that these games are filled with the problems I listed above and by word of mouth that ruined the sales. Along with low advertisement (except Conduit) doesn't help. Untill I started to talk about these games none of my friends knew they existed, and even people I meet now don't either.

How about just releasing a full retail Team Sonic developed Sonic title in 2D. IN ACTUAL 2D. Not this abomination SEGA has allowed Dimps to develop for PSN and LIVE Arcade. I want some highly stylized hand drawn backgrounds and characters, with animation for each action in its 2D world. Also really catchy music for each level in the game.

I've never experienced any of that in all the time I've put into the game. I've experienced the occasional slowdown when the camera quickly shifts around, but I've heard that can be fixed if you go the homebrew route and run it off a USB HDD. I'm just too lazy to do that.

@Aquacharger - My copy of HOtD Overkill is glitchy as hell. I've never heard anybody else complain, so I thought it was just my copy. Glitching is not something that is very welcome in a game that depends on accuracy.

That...and the end...I mean, I get it...I have a good sense of humor and can appreciate most things over-the-top, but it was like they had a think tank where the designers had a competition where they could come up with the most bizarrely nasty concept they could think of. It was just...unnerving - and I've seen some f*cked up things (2g 1c, 1g 1j, and 1m 1h come to mind).
