@Activision

You may have the golden goose but EA's got the eggs baby!

Wouldn't it be the opposite? Activision has the eggs, just no way to produce more.

Activision owns the rights to the goose but EA owns the rights to the eggs. The goose's only value is producing eggs so without access to the eggs, the goose is worthless.

Hey, If 2D Boy can do it with three guys, I'm sure Respawn will be fine.

Could have sworn someone outside of Kyle Gabler and Ron Carmel did the music in World of Goo... guess not.

Edit button would be great right about now.

Well then, I demand that Respawn make something 1.5x as good as World of Goo, due to the handicap 2D Boy had! Better get crackin'!

1.5x as good as World of Goo?

I doubt a game like that exists. Perhaps Mass Effect and Ocarina of Time?

Mass Effect? I said 1.5x.

Not 0.15x.

Also, I was being facetious.

No. In what i'd read about the contract between the two companies, IW was only to be owned by Activision for a set amount of time and if they wanted to "renew" the agreement they could. It would be considered bad business managment if they were'nt looking ahead of time to where they may want to go.

Todd Alderman isn't the only one who joined up with Respawn. As I was taking a peek around NeoGAF's IW Bailout thread, someone posted up some juciy infor from G4.

You mean 1 person to do all the work, while West and Zampella stand and watch, and then take credit for it.

Proof that they were collaborating? They got fired, and then went and formed their own two man studio. Employees loyal to them and sick of having bonuses withheld are now coming to join them. Far from proof of any shady dealings going on while they still worked at Activision.

We don't know all the facts, and I doubt we ever will, but every piece of news about Activision and bonuses having not been paid tends to give credence to the claims against Activision.

Hey, if 1 person can make an MMO on his own, I'm sure a lead designer and two guys who are used to running things will be perfectly able to make a single player game.

They were never able to make a decent single player game with both Modern Warfares, what makes you think they can change?

ROFLOL...and Dan Americh was just talking about how they are going to be okay...well...if you don't think top technical leadership is important, than IW will be just fine...lol. I give IW another 6 months, and Activision will fold them into a new organization.

Oh this is just fantastic :]

Imagine if the entirety of IW left and went to join Respawn..

It'd be the biggest and best F*CK YOU to Activision, and a sweet thing to witness.

The question should be, when's EA gonna sue Respawn when they don't want to make whatever EA's going to ask them to make.

it seems to me that EA has learned there lesson. I'm actually excited to see what comes out of Respawn cause EA appears to want to give them creative control

They set up a two man company. Anyone can incorporate a business, and it's not that difficult a process for someone that already has experience doing it. It's not like they had office space ready, company logos, and a detailed business plan.

As for "theft of property" I have no idea what you are talking about. Do you mean stealing ideas from Activision? They certainly didn't steal any technology from them, and any "ideas" would have been in their heads (and not owned by Activision).

To understand what is happening, you have to understand the history of IW. They created a MOH game for EA, and then left to create Call of Duty at Activision. The same group of guys that left EA for Activision back then are now leaving Activision for EA. It's not some malicious plan to steal technology or ideas from Activision, it is literally just a group of friends wanting to continue working together.

Think of it this way; If your employer refused to pay your contractually obligated bonuses, gave control of the IP you worked on to two other studios, and then refused to give you any creative freedom over the next game, wouldn't you be looking at other options? It's not against the law, nor is it unethical, to seek other employment while you are still employed at a company.
