Here's what Activision should do but won't to make Tony Hawk: Shred awesome.
Create and upload your own tracks, skaters & tricks.
Co-op mode -- seriously, you and another player go through competitions together and sometime against each other.
DLC with stuff from the previous TH games (tracks, skaters, Spider-Man, Officer Bob, Wolverine as a skater, etc.)
Make it like Tony Hawk: Underground (which is the best one IMO)
None of this Tony Hawk: Ride stuff. The problem with TH:R is the control board I think was not ready. I mean, there had to be a Motion Plus add-on for Wii-motes so using a motion control skateboard isn't going to work right.

Yes! An Animal Chin game would rule. If the era, plot, locations and riders could be represented in game.. I would be all over it.
THPS is tired. Retire it.. Should of ended the series with Underground.. obviously RIDE and SHRED are marketed towards non skaters. I couldn't imagine stepping onto that lame ass deck.. maybe to surf down some stairs or something.
