Ok that might be a little mean.

(FACT CHECK) Ironhide transformed into a MINIVAN and was old.

Though, for being old, one shot to the chest in the Movie from Megatron pretty much ended his tenure without much effort.

It wasn't pretty:

I believe there is a typo in this post. The sentence should read "Autobot Ironhide, who is best known for transforming into a truck and being awesome".

Why turn into a jet if you can teleport? I don't know, why have shuttles if you have transporters? I would imagine simply being able to go Mach whatever is a benefit in and of itself in combat. I certainly can't recall Skywarp having enough range or reload speed to beat his flight time for it to be superior way of getting around.

His name is Skywarp.

Besides teleporting, what do you expect him to turn into? A tank? No, obviously a jet. Sheesh people.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if this game pre-dates the original Transformers series how do the Autobots and Decepticons know to turn into trucks, cars, jets, etc.? They had no idea what our vehicles looked like prior to coming to Earth.

If I recall the original series backstory correctly, they crash landed on Earth after a Decepticon attack. They had no knowledge of Earth or its inhabitants before-hand.

Any Transformers purists out there that can clear this up?

They still transformed before coming to earth, just into Cybertonian vehicles. That's why these guys don't look like modern day cars or planes we know of. Even in the toon, it showed some of their alt-modes before coming to earth. The seekers were all triangle shaped planes on Cybertron.

Some bots never took an earth mode, hence Blurr and his crazy hover car mode and Kup and his weird pick-up mode from the original movie and season 3. They kept their original alt-modes.

They cound already transform before coming to Earth. They just transformed into vehicles that were similar in design to what their Earthen counterparts would end up being. For example, Bumblebee didn't transform into a VW Beetle on Cybertron, but it looked an awful lot like one.

Ah, okay. The Transformers wiki doesn't even mention anything about that aspect other than the fact that on Cybertron there were production bots (who later became the Autobots) and military bots (who later became the Decpticons). I guess it's safe to assume that their creators (the Quintessons) originally had vehicle designs for them.

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm looking forward to revisiting a childhood favorite. Hopefully it will be up to snuff.

Yup, no problem.

TF history is actually pretty deep, it is millions of years after all. The Quints sold one line of robots as slaves, and one as a military line. The slaves were the autobots, and the autobot symbol was referred to as a slave brand even. I always thought it was interesting that if you looked at the autobot symbol closely you could actually see it was crying.

Anyway, eventually the robots became self aware, and they ran out the Quints from cybertron. Afterward though, the Decepticons wanted to keep their campaign of conquest going (as that's what they were designed for) but the Autobots just wanted peace.

Since the Autobots couldn't compete with the Decepticons on a military level, they developed the ability to transform and hide from them. The Decepticons eventually learned this and then also gained the ability to fly. Admiration of their flying ability is eventually what lead to the downfall of an autobot named Orian Pax, who was then rebuilt into Optimus Prime. This stuff was mostly told in flashbacks.

Eventually this war drained Cybertron of all it's energy resources, so the Autobots left their planet to find new sources of energy. While doing so,they were attacked by the Decepticons and they crash landed on earth where they remained dormant for something like 4 million years. This is where the cartoon picks up.

That's like saying why does Nightcrawler need legs if he can teleport. Special powers use energy, you need a more economical way to travel at times.

Anyway, this game looks great. Till now the greatest TF game was the Armada based one on PS2. I really hope this one surpasses it. The fact that it's at least somewhat based on G1 continuity.

"Decepticon Skywarp, a jet who could teleport in the classic Transformers series, and now has cloaking technology instead. That makes more sense, actually -- why would you need to transform into a jet if you could teleport?"

My question is why would you not want to teleport behind an enemy tailing you?

In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby, "If you don't play War for Cybertron then F--- YOU!"

Seriously though, do yourself a favor and do some serious reading into this game if you haven't. It looks like a phenomenal title even if you aren't a big Transformer fan.

Skywarp ALWAYS had cloaking ability in the G1 cartoon. That is why he was always my favorite of the 3 seekers. Did the Joystiq crew ever even watch G1? How old are you guys?
