If this game fails, all we have left is Madden and it's yearly Roster update, and Cover change and cover year change. This game better be GOOD!

Also not having the NFL team and player licences is a big minus for a lot of people. This game looks like a great tech demo, and hopefully EA are watching closely, but without the official licences it's never going to be a commercial success.

Okay... I don't like sports or sports titles at all, but I would play this game. I can't quite explain why.

I'm a bit bummed out that it's only rated E. Not saying that they're obligated to make it like Blitz The League, but with a title like that I was expecting it to be E10+ at least.

Now THAT looks more like the football I expected to play when I thought about 'next-gen' football.

I'm very tempted to pick this up, and I hate football.

All of the players look the same, they look like they are wearing body armor, not uniforms, they're all wearing visors. Also no NFL license: fail.

I also no longer care about the NFL license because beyond Teams and Uniforms I have no idea who the heck any of these players are anyway.

I feel bad that this game will likely be unsuccessful, because it looks pretty good. Exclusive deals suck.

This game is too arcade like for me. I need simulation NFL or NCAA football. If I wanted to play Blitz, I'd go pick it up for $5. There is also only one camera angle, and the camera is controlled for you. Your Player has tunnel vision... What player in the NFL can't look left right up or down! the camera angle alone is enough to make me not buy this game.
You can create teams, stadiums and rosters but you can't share them like forza. All of the players are the same size, and run like tight ends, they should have stuck with making soccer games, that's what they are good at. They don't have controllable instant replay, no challenge system, and certain penalties are absent because of player behavior within the engine.
The game looks awesome, but it will play like crap. the defensive controls are 1 to 1 while offensive controls are slowed down to give teh advantage to the defender. They really screwed this game up. A no buy for me for sure, until it hits the bargain bin.

You have to love the Madden hate on Joystiq. Madden does have it's flaws, but it is by far the best long running game franchise in history. Debate all you want you can not beat it.
No matter how much a small group of you complain about it, in the end it will be one of the top selling games EVERY year and this Backbreaker game will be in the bargain bin in 2 weeks because no one will buy it.

I've always vastly preferred the NCAA games to Madden, but that's because I greatly prefer college football to the pros. I've never lived close enough to NFL team to have any attachment to them, so it's just 32 random teams with anonymous millionaires. Colleges are everywhere and the teams are filled with people on scholarships that will never have a chance to play in the pros, but play because they love it or to get an education.

Thank you. There are generally three distinct types of people when it comes to Madden.
1) The non-sports gaming variety as often found on Joystiq comments: People who have never really cared about a football videogame, so Madden 2001 feels almost identical to them as Madden 2010, so they'll say "it's just a roster update." Unfortunately, these are the fans who are usually the impetus for puting stupid, time-wasting modes into the games like trading cards, Madden Ultimate Team, and weapons... people who need a "hands icon" over Randy Moss's head to know that he's a good wide receiver. These are generally the folks who will complain about not enough differentiating Madden from year to year, relenting that "it's still a football game," but then screaming bloody murder when Infinity Ward makes slight changes to the accuracy of the M4A1 from MW1 to MW2.
2) The hardcore sport gaming variety who want nothing but the most hardcore simulation of the NFL... perfect salary cap replication, arbitration, precise cleat colors. The 5,000 word essays on what Madden has to add to become a real simulation.
3) The millions of people who actually like the game, find flaws, but are reasonable enough to not expect every minute detail but still take a passing interest in some of the gimmick modes and additions. By and large, these people are happy with Madden, don't complain much about it, but let their dollars do the talking.
Unfortunately, however, it makes for a very confused development process. The loudest critics are usually those who get the most attention, which either means more time spent on gimmicks or more time spent on things like shoe lace colors (and if you think I'm joking: seriously, go to a forum like OperationSports and read some of the criticisms of Madden '10, as much time is spent complaining about how the Seahawks 4th alternative uniforms do not have the correct facemask options, as is on criticism of gameplay or modes).
Madden '06 - '10 has been a let down, but the game has been progressing in the right direction. I just think it's too late for this generation of consoles.

You gotta check out the gameplay vdis and the game informer preview, they hated it. The camera is stuck in a pseudo Gears of War over the shoulder view, it creates tunnel vision where you can't see to your immediate left or right, and it's default and can't be changed because there is no other option. There will be a demo, but no word on it's release. There is a reason that Natural Motion hasn't promoted tis game widely, and I'm sure it's because of their lack of American Football knowledge (poor gameplay, and playbooks could be the end result), and fear that football fans won't accept or like the new camera.
