I dunno why people want these. I tried out the PS3 mouse thing with the PS3 and it simply did not feel right.

Developers have built algorithms for smoothing out gamepad thumbsticks. These mice just don't work right.

The video would be much more useful if it actually showed gameplay. Also, you were holding the equipment too close to the camera so it couldn't focus - some detailed photos would be more useful in that case as well. The random button mashing closeup while talking is just distracting really. ;o)

Thoughts for next time...

As someone who abhors playing games with a mouse and keyboard and tends to avoid playing PC games as a result, I would love to see a review on a PC compatible controller that works like a PS3 or 360 controller.

Wireless ones work as well if you just buy the Microsoft Xbox 360™ Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. I've been using one for years and I love it.

You do know that the wired 360 controller (best controller of all time IMHO) can plug into any USB port of your PC and Windows will recognize it and install a driver for it.

You then can configure in game settings to map the buttons the way you want it. Just about any recent PC game that is out on the consoles will have 360 controller integration for the PC version as well, so the game will recognize the 360 controller and map the buttons exactly like the console version.

Thanks for the info! I am humbled by my own ignorance.

Does anyone know if it is possible to play MMOs like WOW or STO with a 360 controller? (I'm guessing "no"...)

You can use this to play WoW using a 360 controller:
http://pc.ign.com/articles/827/827897p1.html

There are some alternative programs out there that allow the 360 controller to be used for games that don't even support controllers or let you configure the mapping... and that program is called Xpadder: http://www.xpadder.com/

you can use PS3 controllers on your PC as well.

I use my dual shock for playing emulators and racing games..

you do need to download a driver for it, but it's simple and takes little time...

Did you know you can remap the buttons with a PC configuration utility? The firmware is also upgradeable.

The sensitivity is also adjustable on-the-fly with a combination of buttons, probably the f button and mouse wheel.

I know sensitivity is usually the problem with this type of mouse console controllers, but was there any research done before reviewing this? All in the info is on their website!

I agree - this review is useless if they have simply taken an out-of-the-box model and not first configured via PC or updated to the latest firmware.

It might not still help. Game developers understand that gamepads are worse for percision and are different from mice in general, so they added algorithms to smooth how you move within the games.

So if you put .25f force for .25 seconds you might move at an even pace, then if you hold it for .35 seconds it might make it start to move faster. PC games don't have these setups because mice have perfect percision to start with.

I believe Halo had to have been the first game to really nail it, it's very hard to notice, but it makes the game just feel so nice to control. If you look at Borderlands the developers themselves said they took a lot of the things bungie did with halo and put it in borderlands. Borderlands also feels very smooth and nice to play.

Most [ALL] FPSs now have these techniques so these mice don't really work well with the techniques, unless you could turn them off. [I don't know any game that lets you.]

I agree with others. It seems that the reviewer may not have known about all of the features of the product such as the ability to adjust sensitivity on the device itself, and how to remap buttons through the included pc software.

XIM360 is the only mouse/keyboard adapter that's worth a damn and that's because you have to run it through your PC. Every Xbox game has a different deadzone, deadzone shape, sensitivity, acceleration, xy ratio, etc. Without having some way to adjust all those variables it will never work right with every game. I'm betting this thing probably works pretty well with either MW1/2 or Halo, but almost definitely not both.

Justin you write great articles but this video just seemed thrown together. Without gameplay footage, crisp images, or a semblance of research it's hard to garner how good or bad this controller is for 360 or PC.

I have no comment on the controller itself but I must say I am so tired of these lousy video reviews. GET A TRIPOD PEOPLE! Also do we always have to spend 2 minutes looking at the packaging? Do I need to see a long pan along the full length of the USB cable? It takes way more than just pressing record and running off at the mouth to make one of these watchable. I do appreciate the attempt but it's not that hard to make it decent. Oh and background music isn't needed AT ALL no matter how awesome YOU think the tune is.
