I think it'll always be interesting to see that the PS2 is still selling in Japan. This would equate to like, $50,000 a month spent by consumers on a 10 year-console? I mean, how many consoles are still selling 10 years on this level? It's incredible.

Looking at Wikipedia, there are even still 34 games in development for it at the current time. Even though they're mostly ports from the PS3 version, it's still incredible it's being supported. Compare this to my 2-year old webcam which won't work in Windows 7 because Logitech is a piece of poop. :(

You're a sick man, Biggen. I can understand someone turning him off in favor of a newer console, but no one should do it happily. For shame.

PSP Go can't be considered anything else than a giant failure for Sony by now. Hopefully they will have learned a lesson about what people want and do not want in time for the PSP2.

If I were looking to get into gaming, and get the most bang for my buck in terms of pricing, avaliability, and quality of the library, the PS2 would be my first choice.

Perhaps that's how some cash strapped Japanese gamers are feeling?

Absolutely. It's also reasonable to assume a large percentage of japanese gamers love jrpgs and the ps2 has heaps of them, good quality ones too. Plus it has sotc, one of the greatest games ever.

Honestly, considering it's featureset and price, selling 2000 PSP Go's a week is pretty impressive. I wonder what Sony was expecting.

Sony was expecting an answer to the question 'Can we move to entirely digital software distribution and therefore keep virtually all the money for ourselves and prevent used game sales altogether, incidentally without sharing this benefit with the customer in lower prices to reflect what are essentially game rentals instead of purchases?'

They got one...

They listened to the analysts and industry talking heads that kept saying "Digital Distribution is inevitable!"

In short, they listened to everyone but the customers.

I'm glad the PS2 is still selling. Mine still gets a lot of gaming time, and I just convinced a friend to buy one instead of mooching off of mine.
