A couple of years ago, Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun decided it was a good time to start teasing us with the prospect of a new installment in the Oddworld franchise. We've been desperately nurturing that little glimmer of hope since his announcement -- but we might have to extinguish our excitement for the time being. The series' creator, Lorne Lanning, recently told G4TV that the next Oddworld game has been put "on the shelf."
"There's a lot of shakeup going on [in the gaming industry]," Lanning explained, "and in that turmoil, we didn't really want to put the Oddworld brand out there in the middle of it." Looks like our Oddworld desires will have to be sated by the Oddbox collection, which will bring the series' four console outings to Steam later this year -- or by purchasing the first two games on Steam together, right now, for $9.99.

Man, that article is all kinds of messed up. It says "all four of the Oddworld Xbox games, will be available on Steam for PCs in 2010" but there were only two Oddworld Xbox games. I'm assuming they're just going to port the last two of the Oddworld games, Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath

Well, just Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus. Munch's Oddysee and Stranger's Wrath are coming to Steam.

Man ive been waiting for their new IP for some time. Been a Fan since the first one hit on PS1. Was very sad to see them leave the gaming market.

That's disappointing to hear. I hope that it doesn't stay shelved for too long. I am, however, looking forward to Munch's Odyssey and Stranger's Wrath on Steam.

That game was called "The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot" or something similar. It was supposed to be rated M, but they axed development. I've always wanted an M rated Oddworld.

I'd totally be in for Stranger's Wrath if it was cheap, I always thought that game looked cool.

Definitely one of my favorite games of all time. I'm pissed that it isn't backwards compatible.

It does suck that the next Oddworld is a while away but now I don't have to buy an original Xbox on eBay to play Strangers Wrath. Backwards compatible 360 my arse!

Backwards compatibility on the 360 is a joke.
They say that Munch's Oddysee is full BC, but the sound cuts out after the first level.
Makes the game unplayable for me!

I hear ya Luke!
The Munch's Odyssey experience, via the 360's hit or miss BC functionality, was one of the biggest disappointments I've had as a gamer this generation (actually, now that I think about it, two red rings were probably a significantly bigger downer)
I missed out on the two odd-world games from last generation, so this is great news for me. I won't hesitate to pick them both up on steam when they both drop later this year.

The 360 wont even play Strangers Wrath. It'll look better on my Alienware m11x anyway.

Like most of the old stuff everyone's getting excited about, I never played these. I've heard awesome things about them though. On to the backlog pile they go...

Hmm...howabout those movies that the studio was supposed to be focused on? Did those ever happen?

No, they didn't. I don't really like the direction that they're heading. They've become extremely unreliable with their projects.

They need to come out with more games starring Abe. Enough of this Camel-cowboy nonsense.

Maybe MS should fix the BC to allow us to play SR again. Just a thought.

I actually agree with you. I know it was critically acclaimed, but it just didn't do it for me. I liked it, but I didn't love it.

Strangers Wrath was hands down one of the best games that ever released on the original Xbox.
It's a damn shame it didn't do better sales-wise...
