To celebrate the arrival of its third birthday -- or, as is more accurate when describing the age of MMOs, the third year it's managed to avoid the sweet release of a global server shutdown -- Lord of the Rings Online is seeing a temporary reduction in the cost of its monthly subscription fee. From April 26 to June 30, you can grab a three, six or 12 month subscription for LotRO for just $9.99 a month, down from the standard rate of $14.99 a month.
In addition, Turbine is turning up the rare item drop rate for monsters during the birthday festivities, and is providing each player with a skill which reduces the price of vendor goods by 20 percent. That's awfully nice of the studio, but aren't birthday-havers supposed to receive presents, and not give them? We're not complaining, mind you -- we just feel like we're taking advantage.

Is Valve behind this? It seems like something they would do... ;P
Cool move by Turbine though, it is always good to see developers who like to give something back to their players.

Not only that, (as Massively reported) they are also selling the game + the expansions + 30 days of play for $10.

I believe the $9.99 price was only for the duration of the PAX event.

Interesting! It appears you _have_ to enter the Turbine store through this link:

to get the deal. Once you've gone through that link, they set a cookie that makes the price show up as $10 from then on. Sorry about the confusion.

What in the hell is wrong with you! Of course you are expected to give that little bag of nicknacs when you have a birthday party. you know those bags that had a couple hard candies, an eraser that just rubbed the pencil marks around the paper... you know... that junk.
