If you're surprised by the news that last month's Xbox Live Arcade sales were the highest for any March in the digital platform's history, think back to the games featured in said month. Remember? Marketed as a month-long "Block Party," XBLA was home to a total rager, which brought us Toy Soldiers (209,000 units sold), Perfect Dark (161,000 downloads), Scrap Metal (18,000 units sold) and the Game Room app (sales and download data of Game Room games is unknown).
With the sales strength of these titles, as well as purchases of a few persistent favorites, like Trials HD and Battlefield 1943, the XBLA platform raked in an estimated $10.6 million last month, according to analysis from market research firm Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment. That total completely trounces February's pathetic $6.8 million in revenue and surpasses sales figures for March 2009 by 41 percent.
We foresee XBLA playing host to a great deal of parties in the future. Like the house from House Party (though, sadly, without the Kid 'n Play hijinks). Man, whatever happened to those guys?

Perfect Dark, along with half-price Shadow Complex and Geometry Wars 2 we're my XBLA purchases in March.

Man, I need to straight-up stop buying arcade games. I feel bad because there's so many good ones out there for PSN and XBLA (and, to a lesser degree, WiiWare and VC,) but when I buy them, I never ever end up playing them...and since they're not physical and DRM'd out the wazoo, I can't give/sell them to anyone else. I guess I should just be happy that there are so many great full retail games this gen that I just don't have time for the little downloadable ones.

I am in the same boat man. I have a big list of arcade titles I haven't played. Bankshot, Commander's, Brain Challenge, and about 20 others. The only ones I really play are Rez HD and Trials (Still so close to Marathon achievement).

I know where your coming from, I often don't finish them and find it very easy to forget I even downloaded them (despite there are some really good Live Arcade games).

I hate Brain Challenge because no matter how much I play it the Dr. makes me feel bad with "I haven't seen you in ages, I hardly recognize you!".

If this truly is a success then XBLA should have seasonal events for the sale of XBLA games. Block Party and Summer Arcade are already in place, all that is needed now are Winter and Fall events.
This way XBLA games don't always have to hope for a prime spot in the Summer Arcade month and can now be spread out across the year.
Although, MS should be supporting all the games that get put up on its service and not just a select few.

i would have loved to see the breakdown of Game Room game sales. Too bad. My guess would be Centipede and Tempest were the top sellers. Hopefully the Konami titles with their lame generic cabinets were at the bottom.

Man, I have bought so many xbla games but haven't beaten them all (or played very little).
Carcassonne and Catan I have played over and over. (So addictive).
Maybe I should spend a night here and there going through xbla game from the past several years. oy.. so little time.
