Sackboy joins the ModNation Racers

It seems United Front Games is taking more than just inspiration from Media Molecule for their upcoming "Play, Create, Share" racer. In fact, it seems to have actually kidnapped the star of LittleBigPlanet and made him bonus DLC for the PS3 version of ModNation Racers.

According to the PlayStation.Blog, early copies of the game (marked with a special sticker) will include a code that unlocks Sackboy as a playable racer. Both pre-ordered copies and first-run copies purchased at retail will feature the bonus.

Sony seems very eager to encourage pre-orders for the upcoming racer, as Sackboy is just the latest addition to an extensive pre-order bonus campaign. Has the tactic worked, or are you still on the fence? Check out a new trailer (featuring Sackboy!) after the break.

Come on Sackboy, we all know you're only in GOTY if you make a cameo appearance in Metroid: Other M. Better luck next year :D

That is if Metroid: Other M releases this year. Who knows, they might delay it to 2011. I kind of doubt it though. Anyways, this game might take the cake out of M:OM.

I have full confidence that M: OM will release this year easily, its the new Zelda i'm worried about. I'd love for Nintendo to show it off as a launch title for the HD Wii at E3 :D

I'm trying to understand, Big Daddy, I am, but regardless the amount of times I slam my head onto my keyboard I just can't force my brain to make the connection between Modnation Racers and Other M, besides the obvious fact that, yes, they're both video games, but barring that rather inconsequential characteristic they also happen to be on totally different systems and in completely separate genres. I mean, for God's sake, It's like saying that hamburgers are gonna destroy the peanut butter cup industry since they're both a form of food and hamburgers are more customizable. Care to elaborate?

Obviously it was in response to my comment above his, which showed the link between both games as GOTY contenders. Tho in all reality, only Sackboy up the top thinks this game will be GOTY lmao.

Suddenly I feel compelled to buy the game just because of sackboy's inclusion.
How weird is that?

The beta, and all this marketing is working on me. I have a sudden urge to play this and 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Sony should really capitalize on Sackboy and make a children cartoon show and line of toys featuring him.

What are they, Activision?

I'm expecting Activision to announce Call of Guitar Duty: Underground 3. Its an MMO about old skaters grinding tricks down war-torn Germany in the 1940's with guns hanging off their guitars as they play songs noone cares about and shoot Nazis.

Another game to buy in May? Seriously? Did I miss the memo about May being the new November?

Foetoid, I would play that game.

There are already Sackboy figures available from Senario LLC. Unfortunately, after seeing them in person in an FYE store, I have to give my thumbs-down. The figures have shoulder and hip joints, so there's posability, but the "sack" texture just does not match the established Sackboy. It's like buying a teddy bear and then finding that it has feathers instead of fur.

Saw it coming

Man pre-ordering is so worth it.. 3 awesome costumes. I just wonder what that secret set of costumes is. looking forward to playing this game.

i want all of these pre-orders and I wanted the game anyway, but I have to wait till after my exams are done.

'No Brainer'

I snagged a preorder from GoHastings.com which has/had the game on preorder for $40. It's been a couple weeks since then so I hope it wasn't a mistake that they just never found out and will thus cancel all those orders.

I am really excited for this game. But I think the draw of it is to create your own characters and rides. Now if you could IMPORT your LBP sackboy into ModNations... eh?

I can't wait for this game to come out. I preordered this @ gohastings for $39.99. LBP meets Mario Kart 64, you can't wrong with that.

Tracks honestly look a little boring compared to Mario Kart Wii, but hopefully the full game will be really good.

Still on the fence on this game. The $10 game credit from Amazon might push me over. Does anyone know if you can combine Amazon game credits on a single game purchase? (Use the game credit from Red Dead Redemption pre-order with game credit from ModNation pre-order to get MLB 10 The Show?)

Can Mario Kart do that?

My 2 sons are so excited to play this game, they loved the beta...and so did I.

The more I see of the game, the less likely I am to buy it. I can't justify spending $60 on it. I hardly played any public levels on LBP so I doubt that I'd even both playing them on this game.

Maybe it's not worth $60, but they've shown time and time again how easy it is to make even very detailed custom tracks, karts, and racers. That said, I think the user-created content will very quickly surpass the LBP levels in quality and quantity.

Even thought this title is trying to appease a greater audience than other racing games, it's still not going to grab everyone's attention, and I don't blame you. The concept of LBP was a success in my eyes, but I still think that most people who gave up on it, did so too soon. Give it a try man, you might end up being a great creator. I hardly mess with LBP create mode but when it comes to online, boy does that game shine!

PS:This game is mine on day numero uno!

Yeah, I think there was a bit of Ferrari Testarossa in Sackboy's car. In cardboard form, of course.

My first thought when I saw this headline was, "It's about time they announced that!" It seemed more logical to have Sackboy in this than R&C, Kratos, and Drake. Nice to see that all of the preorders will get Sackboy, not just ones bought from X retailer.

This game should have been "Little Big Racer" from the start! Creating a new IP for this game was so unnecessary.
