Has the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 disc ever gone for a spin inside your console? Well, you may have unlocked a spiffy new gun for Medal of Honor -- the game isn't out yet and you're already unlocking content for it? Man, you're awesome!
The Battlefield blog breaks the news, detailing early access to the M24 Sniper rifle in multiplayer. Of course, there are a few caveats: You need an EA account and you must have registered a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 VIP code. If you haven't done either of those things, you have until March 31, 2011 to get it done -- PC players need to only have participated in an online match to be eligible for the unlock. If you purchased a VIP code through the Bad Company 2 store, sorry, you're not eligible.
The other requirement is that you have to pick up a copy of Medal of Honor when it releases later this year. Yes, we're serious -- if you want the gun in the game, you're going to have to buy the game to get the gun. We know, it's totally not fair!

Actually, it just offers further incentive to those who buy the game vs those who pirate it. It's hardly punitive to those who bought it.
Honestly, I'm sick of the crying and whining. For those who want PC gaming industry to stay alive and not suffer from piracy, this is the best model to date to encourage legit gaming on that platform.
It may be a form of DRM, but it's DRM that's based on a positive reinforcement model instead of a negative model.

Positive Reinforcement is only available if you pre-order at a select store. Those who buy reinforcement used will have to pay a further fee for it to be Positive, but customers who pre-order get Positive Reinforcement on Day One.

I didn't have to preorder at a "select" store. The game in question has been on sale for as low as 20$ at some points, there really is no necessity to buy it used when you could be showing support to the developer's efforts so they can continue to fund future endeavors. In the end it just means more great games for us to choose from. If you don't like it, don't buy it. I fail to see the problem here.

Battlefield VIP status was exclusive to neither a single store nor day one purchases. Seriously, every battlefield post has already been over this.

What's wrong with $15 DLC if you get your money's worth and about 50-100 hours worth of entertainment? Hell, I paid $10 for Rag Doll Kung fu and got maybe 3 hours of entertainment out of it.
Also, why do I not hear about the people that are truly ripping off consumers with DLC (IE Pain, AC II, etc.)

What's wrong with 15$ DLC is that it used to be cheaper. When gamers like you (and the 2.5 million others who bought it, not singling you out) continue eating it up, nomatter the price, it'll only continue climbing. Even though it's only three new maps, and two copied/pasted maps.

Games used to be $50.. now they are $60 and you still pay for them. I personally don't see a problem with the pricing of the DLC. If people think it is worth the money for them then they will buy it. If they don't think it is worth it then they will not buy it. I don't think 5 maps are worth $15, so I have not bought the map pack. You are not forced to buy it if you don't want to.

Well, if it's like the Veteran status in BC2, then it won't work, and fans like me won't get squat.

If you look at the M24 stats, I think it's the 2nd best sniper rifle in the game.

I like the M24 better than all the others because I mostly play hardcore and while the M95 has higher damage, it's mostly overkill damage and the M24 is more accurate. As for medics, it's the T88 all the way for me

BFBC2 has been out 2 months, the "incentive" EA offered is gradually unlocking multiplayer map(for alternative game modes) on disc, at 2 maps a month rate. BFBC2 is already not so great with map variety, yet EA seems choose to punish Day-One purchasers by not able to play all maps that already on disc the moment they get the game.
You know, people are not stupid, when you say "VIP map pack 2 is ready", then it magically appears without any downloading involved, and is on the same map only with a different goal, they tend to notice.

Bad company 2 has 10 really good maps though, there isn't a map in the game where you can look at it and say "Thats a bad map". Personally I don't mind so much about the modes being unlocked as time goes on. It gives me something to look forward to and it makes the makes I used to play conquest on feel totally different when played in rush or vice versa.

I read it a different way.
From the BF blog: "CUSTOMERS WILL RECEIVE EARLY ACCESS TO THE M24 MULTIPLAYER UNLOCK IN MOH AUTOMATICALLY WHEN PLAYING WITH THE SAME EA ACCOUNT AS USED FOR BFBC2."
Not the same thing. It's just an early unlock.
I think the post needs an edit.

I'm pretty sure the game referred to in that sentence was MoH itself, you know as a joke saying that you needed the game to use the gun in it

This shit is getting a little old. I seriously doubt that this "exclusive" content is even made for there so called purpose. The same stuff happened with Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age and BFBC2. EA is taking shit out of the game, calling it exclusive, and then being like "Pre order at Gamestop for exclusive blah blah".
The problem is, I bought all of those games at launch and none of the "exclusive" shit worked. Mass Effects Cerebus network was down and BFBC2 had the worst FPS launch Ive ever seen.

It's not taken out of the game, it's an early unlock. Like you got the 1911 and Thompson without needing the regular points in BC2. The post is wrong if you read the PR.
Now Bad Company 2 did have one gun that was exclusive to "Battlefield Veterans". The M1 Garrand.

Geez, get over it already. Did not having the not even cool looking armors in DAO and ME2 really ruin the game for you? The shit that's really getting old is people complaining about this. It's been stated a billion times that ME2 and DAOs "cut" content was only cut for people who bought it used, and if you used Amazon both of those games were available for used prices day one!
