Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto was in the question-answering mood yesterday, responding to a handful of queries thrown his way via the Square Enix Partners Twitter account. After explaining to his curious followers that the company is "undecided" about downloadable ports of Seiken Densetsu 3 and mobile RPG Ever Heart Odyssey, Hashimoto addressed the possibility of DS remakes for Final Fantasy V and VI, stating (according to Andriasang's translation), "for FF5 and 6, there are technical issues as well, so at present these are also undecided."
We're not quite sure what that means. The only technical issue we can see in this situation is that Square Enix could put the original versions of both games on a single DS cart, and we would still pay $40 for it, making us technically insane.

Kefka was evil. He poisoned Cyan's town and killed everyone; one of the worst things I've seen happen in the storyline of a FF game. Seph killed Aeris. I'm not saying Kefka wins on numbers, I'm saying between the two IMO Kefka was more evil. I don't really think he was "mad", I think he was evil.
As for not liking 7, I'll admit it's partially because of all the people who 7 was their first FF so automatically they say 'x character from 7 is the greatest of all time'. Secondly here's what annoyed me about 7 - the grind. The first 15 hours or so of 7 is just borderline sleep inducing. I hated the beginning. In fact I've tried to go back and replay 7 and I can't get through an hour before calling it quits. Such a shame too, I loved Red XIII and Vincent Valentine.
A lot of people hate X because of what it changed about the basic FF formula, but I actually liked it a lot. The new battle system and being able to use haste and strategic planning to give yourself tons of attacks at the beginning...a lot of times you could wipe out all the enemies before they had time to attack once if you did everything right. I did hate blitzball though; God did I *ever* hate blitzball. I'm surprised I got far enough in that just to get Tidus' ultimate weapon. But I loved Lulu. Doublecast FTW. =D Auron too.
I recently bought X again, as well as XII (haven't played XII yet, ever). Actually I haven't played any past X.

No, Kefka was quite evil. He was a sociopath and a sadist. Sephiroth, at least, had a specific goal in mind - to unite with Jenova and become a god, or whatever - and while he certainly did not have any regard for human life, most of the people he killed were in pursuit of that goal. Kefka's goal was nothing less than to sow the seeds of chaos and destruction and cause suffering to as many people as possible, because he thought that notions like love, hope and dreams were all a big joke, and he never even tried to make an excuse for himself. If that's not pure evil, I don't know what is.

Good book if you're interested in philosophy at all. In short, Kefka is unable to be evil as he doesn't have a moral barometer. Kind of like how infants and young children can't be evil. Little Jacob doesn't understand that wiping poo on the wall is bad, he just does it because he enjoys it. Same concept applies to Kefka.
Just for the record, I do love Kefka, and definitely adore his representation in Dissidia. it further supports the idea of him just being batshit crazy, not evil.

That book looks like some silly intellectual wankery if I ever saw it, but it does seem clear to me now that your argument is derived from it entirely. Either way, it would be a lot easier to hold a straight-faced philosophical debate with you if you had not just spent this entire thread coming off as an aggressively condescending troll.

you don't have to be polite to be intelligent. in fact those two traits normally don't go together. The book had a point that I agreed with, figured I'd share that knowledge with you for no cost of admission.

This can only mean one thing. FFVI REMAKE ON THE PS3! (Wishful thinking? Yes.)

I like IV the best, but I was turned off by the 3D remakes so far on the DS. They just feel too slow.

Was FFVI on the GBA really a remake? I thought it was just a direct port.

The DS version of FF6 lets you run without having to equip the Sprint Shoes (or whatever they're called). So there's a definite advantage there. FF6 was also released on the PSX, so you might be able to find that version too. The FF6 port was the most improved version however.

Depends on sales guys, that's the "technical issue". Which I don't blame SE for that. They are a business, and if their product doesn't make money, why sell it? How well have FFIII, FFIV and Chrono Trigger done on DS? I honestly don't know. Well? Crappy? I'd say that's the primary consideration.
Doesn't mean I wouldn't adore seeing them come into fruition though.

They could just remake the top five Final Fantasy games over and over each generation and we'd keep buying them.

This Hashimoto guy is the same one who was surprised to hear that fans wanted another sequel to Chrono Trigger, right? Seriously, I don't like to come off as a troll, but Square Enix might want to either hire someone else or get more in touch with their fanbase.
Also, "technical limitations"?? WTF?? I'm pretty sure a SNES game with an audiovisual facelift would not require more horsepower than the DS is capable of, but hey, why take chances? Just do 'em on 3DS, and everyone's happy.

As much as I like FFVI (by far the best one in the series. FFXII and XIII are pale imitations), I feel a 3D remake on the DS wouldn't cut it.... that game deserves a full-on next-gen remake... and is far more deserving of it than FFVII ever was. I really want to hear the opera scene in glorious audio surround sound... I want to see the opening march with intricate mechanical detail of its beautiful steampunk world and designs... I want to see a stunning modern rendition of Kefka's destruction of the old world... FFVI was a game ahead of its time, and even the Nintendo DS would just be holding back its potential.

you do realize that FF6 is so wonderful in everyone's minds because it wasn't an HD next-gen remake? Meaning back when games left room for imagination, what you filled the gaps with yourself as a youngster made it flawless. Kind of like telling a horror story without showing what happens in the dark room, your mind creates a scene that is so much more worse than what they would create. Kind of like how when Lost comes to a conclusion, your answer to what the island is will be so much better (to you) than what the writers make it to be.
Too much detail = midocholorians. Keep it pure, keep it 16-bit I say.

Summons? Bah.
That may have worked back then but RPGs these days need to start giving the player the ability to customize the characters your way. If you can't change appearances then go with what jobs they have.
And keep your cheap shots to yourself, AGNPH boy.

I doubt it has anything to do with size, as alot of the models are just color and slight variations of each other. Exploring can be assisted with a map system or a PS1 style move the camera around option.
At least they tried not to mess up the remake I managed to last for 30 minutes on the wild arms remake on the PS2.......
If anything I wish they would make DLC out of it,I'd rather play it on a TV than the DS....

Well Final Fantasy VI(or III as I first played it) was my first experience with JRPG's and pretty much made it my favorite genre.
I would love to see a remake, as it is to this day still my favorite game.

I was kinda thinking since we got 16 bit sprite based style FF1&2 on GBA, etc, then we got FF3&4 in DS 3dish style, maybe we could get FF5&6 on 3DS with actual 3D. I'm just ready for a new generation in gaming. Everything this gen is sequels now...that means we are done with this gen I hope.

Are these the same kind of "technical issues" that prevented FFXIII from possessing actual towns? Puh-leeze.

I have not played FF5 or 6. I know only of what Wikipedia has said on FF5, and I know a far amount about FF6 from my friends and Wikipedia.
From what I've read and heard, FF5 would best be suited to a DS remake while FF6 should get the full console treatment. Considering it is the second most popular game in the series, it's only fair that it receive the same treatment as FF7 should.

I'm still waiting for FF6 on VC. But I guess it'll have the incorrect NA numbering like FF2/4 did. So I guess I'm waiting for FF3 on VC.

"5 is terrible..... I bought the Original Playstation Anthology years ago" . I used the Snes ROM with the fan translation (illegal, I know, but I don't care). The PSX version is not the best version to use, (long loading times, and crappy, watered down sound effects). Not to mention the translation was crap compared to the Snes fan translation. For example, they translated Wyvern and "Y Burn" and steelback as "steel dress". And I thought Toaplan used Engrish. And there's the GBA version, which I thought was better than the PSX version (such as a better translation, and a default dash feature), but the music sucked (thank you crappy sound processor). The Snes I think is the best, and would be a smart move for Square Enix to put on the DS for a)better graphics and b)better sound than the gba and psx versions.....as long as it wasn't $40.

Am I the only one who liked 5 better than all of the other pre-VII games? The job system was cool (even though it was lifted from FF3), and it had a good pace. I thought FF4 was too quick, and FF6 plodded along.
Guess that's just me.
