Since Halo still belongs to Microsoft, this is obviously a attempt on Activision's part to get rolling with some new blockbuster IP. However what I want to ask is: Why Bungie?

Blockbuster IP is not only comprised of rock solid game/control mechanics but of an interesting and compelling world. While Bungie has proven to be masters of the former, I have yet to see in any of their offerings sufficiency in the later. Marathon, Myth and even the beloved Halo are all fairly simple cookie cutters of fantasy/science fiction archetypes. The only IP that is fairly interesting (to me at least) is ONI.

While most people grapple with the "Why did Bungie choose Activision?" question, it is fairly clear to me that the reasoning was that they wanted to make a new IP and were not satisfied with the budget allowed them by being independent. I'm more curious if they are even capable of making a new IP with a world interesting enough to warrant Activisions interest.

What I have heard is that Bungie designs some gameplay mechanic and the basic premise for a level, then makes a writer go in and make stuff up to fit the scenario. It's the opposite of the type of game I like to play, which is probably a very basic reason why I want nothing at all to do with Halo. However foolish, I still have hope that they can come up with something that I'll like.

Of course, that might be because I just want to play something of theirs; they are good (some might say great) developer and I want to respect them with my purchase dollars, not just the occasional statement of how I think they are talented.

I figured it all out!

Activision "removed the heads of IW because they knew they were loosing that team, and I bet this Bungie / Activision deal was sealed already. So that no matter what happened with IW, they were going to be getting Bungie.

My god . . .

I just don't know what else to say to this. It's like Bungie's been living under a rock and has had no clue whats been going on with IW.

Good luck Bungie. Seriously, i hope you survive the holocaust that you just bought yourself into.

God dammit nazivison!I hope there company just dies already. They just keep on releasing the same game over and over again.I think they made way to many call of duty games.I really hope bungie dose not stick with them forever.I feel they will go down the same way infinity ward went if they stick with them.

And just when gamers thought they could swear off Activision forever, they are again compelled to support them indirectly

Or not, depending on whether they care enough

Also: i wonder if Activision will make them develop for Wii. They did say all platforms, but at this point in the generation a new development would probably not arrive until all the new platforms have come out anyway.

Oh good, that means I may buy a Bungie game instead of not giving a damn like I do about Halo (and most games of that type, honestly).

I've always respected Bungie for their technical proficiency and when they unhooked themselves from Microsoft I high-fived myself in the mirror, so I am looking forward to seeing what this next project is (and hoping it's something I might like).

Wow at the comment storm, alot of good points brought up and alot of general chaos.

Here's my thoughts on Bungie and Activision; Bungie is taking over Call of Duty. I would have thought this would have been a first comment page comment.

As for getting in bed with the devil, just forget about Bungie now, pretend they are dead. Because they are, which makes them zombies....sooooooo, sounds like we have a platform to work with to make a video game out of this whole experience.

Again: Bungie will take over the Call of Duty development.

Hopefully Bungie has learned from its relationship with Microsoft and Activisions behavior with its developers. The announcement makes since in a way. Activision needed top talent after shafting Infinity Ward. IW has gone to Activision's biggest rival: EA. So, Activision brings in Bungie. The fact that this has been going on for nine months shows Activision planned on getting rid of IW for awhile. I prefer FPS on Wii, so for me this could be a good thing.

It's like EA Partners, but it's Activison. Can't see a difference other than that. They keep the new IP, they're still self owned, but Activision takes publishing duties.

As much as we all want to hate on Activision, especially with Infinity Ward essentially crumbling under their ownership, I don't see anything wrong with this deal. Activison shows they know how to market and publish a game properly. That's exactly what Bungie wants.

And for those claiming "why not EA?", one look at their financial reports from the last few years is really all you need. EA is a mess right now. Hate all you want, but Activison is making money, and a lot of it. Much more than EA.
