Yeah seriously. This is a no-brainer. Handheld gaming costs less, and it doesn't involve the (much hated by parents) television.

I always find it funny when people think Nintendo should feel threatened by the iphone.

I couldn't picture my kid using an iphone on the playground.

What I hate is seeing a 10-12 year old with a more expensive phone than my own =\

And those adults spend that money on their children.

"Apple can enter the children's market any time they feel it necessary to their business plan"

Sure I guess, so can Toyota I guess, doesn't mean they would know what they are doing.

Maybe if Apple can make a handheld cheaper and just as good as whatever Nintendo has at the time they might have a chance.

I'd be more worried about Disney!

A shame they're too busy raising Hannah Montana. She's going to be the next Lindsay Lohan.

My 4 year old daughter plays with my original DS Lite all the time. I pretty much gave it to her so that she can play with her Nintendogs.

(okay actually that is pretty much grosser than seafoam green, my mistake)

That other pic is a little more reasonable, but I tend to gravitate towards the DSs in the more adult friendly colors these days. I guess it's because if I'm going to be playing with a "toy" out in public, I'd rather it not *look* like a "toy."

I think so. There's a lot of games coming out for it. MGS: Peacewalker, ModNation Racers PSP, LBP PSP, Tekken 6 PSP, Final Fantasy Dissidia, and then you can download classic titles like FFVII to it.

You may want to wait until E3, though. I hear there's an announcement about a phone version, but so far that's just speculation by the Wall Street Journal.

Yes, but you will get an overall better experience with the DS.

Yes, if you are an adult or over 14 in general, you will get an overall experience with the PSP that is MUCH better than with the DS.

I disagree, but maybe that's because I own an iPhone that can do basically everything a PSP can do.

Umm, the iPhones hardware is more along the lines of a DS, not a PSP.

@baby sea tuna: An iPhone is a terrible gaming console... the games are fine for simple things but the experience is quite terrible for a game with any sort of depth. The iPhone holds little weight to the quality of the PlayStation or Nintendo handhelds.

@foofighting: PSPs are awesome. I've got an original 1001 and a Go and love them both. If you like PlayStation games and you are looking for a portable gaming experience then the PSP is a no-brainer.

Not every game has to be really deep to be fun, you guys. I've played a couple games on my friends' iPod Touch and they always seem fine to me.

I own all 3. One large point you have to make with the PSP is that regardless of the fact that some may consider it to not have many games, the games it does have offer tons of gameplay. Here's some results:

30 Second Hero: 8 Hours, incomplete
Mana Khemia: 34 Hours
Patapon 2: 23 Hours
Prinny: 11 Hours
Dissidia: 26:30 Hours
Crisis Core: 19 Hours, incomplete (Side Quests not even started)
Patapon: 12 Hours
MGS Peace Walker Demo: 3 Hours
MGS Portable Ops: 12 Hours, incomplete (Side Quests not even started)

Not to mention titles that I haven't finished (FF VIII, Dante's Inferno, Little Big Planet), it also makes for a pretty good movie player either through conversion or used UMDs which go for $1-3.

So yeah, it's worth it.

As I get older, I'm getting more into handheld gaming. I'm so busy that it's hard to sit down for a couple hours to put in a console gaming session, but it's easy to pick up my DS for 20 minutes, and then just close it when I've got something else to do.
