I played FarmVille for a week before getting bored with it. I could see getting hooked on a game that was more geared toward me and possibly unlocks bonuses in bigger franchises. They feel like RPG, with the hooks coming in the form of leveling up.

I played it for ten minutes before removing it myself. I understand how it managed to become popular, but ironically, I do not understand how people can enjoy it; But then again, I bet many Farmville players do not understand why I am obsessed with Fallout3 or Oblivion or GTA IV.

"Core gamers are playing this stuff."

Yeah, the same core gamers that only play Madden and Call of Duty.

They're as bad as the Wii Fit Moms...

People who play these suck. Seriously stop sending me invites to help you build a farm/cafe/fish tank.

Why don't you block all invites or take them off your friends list?

Yeah, wait for something related to the app to pop up in your news feed, and click block/delete/whatever in the top right corner of the comment. A box pops up and asks whether you want to block the friend or the app. Choose wisely.

My Facebook page is free of all those nasty gang wars and farm animals now that I discovered that.

Beyond just blocking further invites, blocking an application on Facebook hides all related items from ALL walls, news feeds, etc.

My blocked application list grows every time I log into Facebook. >:)

There is an extension for Google Chrome, called Facebook Purity, it removes all the games, apps and other crap from Facebook so you can focus on the impersonal socializing; it's heaps good :)

I think the casual game industry is mistakingly projecting their current rapid growth into the next five years. It's going to slow down. There are only so many moms and aunts.

I played mobsters (or something like that) on myspace back in 2008. It was like managing a small income to make a bigger one and rolling dice against other players. After two weeks I saw the pointlessness of it all and dumped it and myspace altogether.

I would consider myself a core game. 24 years old, 2 hours a day, 4 on weekends. I think their market is more like 6-13yrs [gap] +45yrs.

What can we really define as a "core" game, for the "true gamers"? The line keeps getting more blurry each and every day. And then some gamers think they are "core", whereas others will think they are not.

If you use chrome get 'Facebook Purity' (It's an extension). It doesn't put any icons in your toolbar so don't worry. Firefox probably has it too.

Playdom games .. they concentrate their energies on Mobster games but neglect the games they have acquired that had a different market of users .. why did they acquire the Lil Green Patch if they had no intention of managing it ? Be careful you users of Playdom games ... they will axe YOUR favorite game too if they decide something better comes along to expend their energies on.

And Playdom .. to you .. why don't you at least GIVE the game to another company to run so the over 360,000 monthly users can still enjoy it ? If you are axing it, perhaps some other company might like to manage it .. GIVE it to them !
