Well, we knew it was bound to happen sooner or later, right? First things first: Yes, Halo: Reach is apparently running at a full 720p according to Digital Foundry's review of the beta thus far (so many Ps!). And, like Halo 3 before it, the Reach beta achieves a near constant 30 frames-per-second of highly frenetic gameplay, albeit dropping a few every now and then during, um ... explosive situations (let us once again remind you that the game is still in beta).
In fact, aside from the occasional screen tear and a bit of a "ghosting" issue ("frame bending" -- two or more images being blurred together -- can sometimes result in objects on screen not appearing solid, as seen in this image), DF is quite impressed with the beta's visual presentation, not to mention the gameplay. The three pages on the beta go into far more detail than we've dropped into this post, and, well, we've got a lot more Reach to play, so we'd encourage you to read more right here.

Do we have any idea what time monday the beta will be released? I know they usually have server problems with these huge betas which clogs up the system for a few hours, but knowing if it's dropping Monday morning, noon, or nightish would be helpful.

Sadly I do not have a code. I tried yesterday to grab one, but I was busy so I kept ending up a few minutes late (and that's all it takes to go through 100 codes apparently). I'm guessing that once the ODST disc beta access is enabled, Microsoft's servers are going to be broken and crying in the corner for a few hours.

i'm not surprised that this is as good as it is already.
i mean, this is the 5th one, and it is bungie, they pretty much have it mastered.

i must say game looks nice this might be a first halo game i will buy and try to play online for a change. But if the single player is like in MW2 i will not buy it! i need 8-10 hours of single player.

It's not a surprise it's in such good shape. They're re-using the last engine and are making improvements on it.

I don't trust it.
Halo 3's engine kind of sucked visually. Low poly, low res, weak textures, but they were smart enough to add interesting lighting and particle effects to kind of cover for this in motion.
The sacrifices in visuals were made for multiplayer ability. Though bots were obnoxiously lacking, we were able to take 4 people split screen online. Can MW2 do this? No, you can't even do 4x4 with 2 360s over system link. Can GoW2 do this? Again no. The graphics are kicked up at the cost of couch playing.
Halo always led this charge. I'm assuming this new engine kills it. Until I hear otherwise I'm assuming we'll get choppy 4 player split screen local play like MW2 (which isn't much fun) and at best 2 people online per xbox, if not just one.
Weeeeeaaaaakk.

The beta supports 4 player split screen. I've noticed the ghosting to be extremely bad, but that's something they will have fixed by release for sure.

And if you still need it, I found evidence.
"Yes you can play split-screen in the Beta. 2-way in Generator Defense, 4-way in everything else. Guests are also good to go. Bring friends. All you’ll need is a valid Xbox LIVE Gold account (there’s no offline play) and that copy of ODST in your drive when it comes time to launch the Beta."

"Until you hear otherwise" could have been a few minutes before you posted if you had bothered to read the article. On page three they talk about (and have screenshots of) 4 player online multiplayer splitscreen which is enabled in the beta. I believe Bungie has said that campaign co-op will be limited to 2 player split-screen (4 player online) just like in Halo 3.

I haven't come across anything that has made the framerate drop. There's the slight latency that comes with a 30 frames game, but it's barely noticeable. I also haven't had any lag at all, which is surprising considering my connection sometimes lags a little in Halo 3 and Bad Company 2.

PS3 version isn't the best. SEGA is going to bring out a surprise new console with Halo:Reach as launch. And the console will be called SEGA Dream-On!

The motion blur is my only gripe. It feels like you're playing on one of those 120hz TVs with that option turned on.
I just hope they fix it in the final release.

I really thought it was me and my monitor. I hooked it up to my 2ms, 1080p, 60Hz monitor and instead of the 720p 30" TV I have. It's good to know it's not my expensive monitor.
If it gets fixed for the final build, which it almost surely will, I'll be extremely happy.

Wow, I'm glad to hear that other people notice that stuff with the really high Hz TVs. I always thought i was just crazy or had eye damage or something, but they really do make movement look strange dont they?

OK so just for your information, and I am not going to get into it all here, a lot of that weird motion (it's called motion judder) you see on your high hz tv's has to do with the way the magically turn 30 fps into 120hz to put it simply. Basically whats happening is the screen refreshes 120 times a second, so the game is only making 30fps. This means you are seeing the same frame 4 times a second (it's called pulldown). There are other weird crazy things going on behind the scenes too like creating extra frames to make motion look "smoother". Like I said way too much stuff to go into here. If you are interested in learning all the ins and outs please check out avsforums.com. Those guys have tons of info on this subject, that being said Plasmas don't really have this issue. The beta looks awesome on my 50" Pioneer KRP-500m (Plasma). Educate yourself before you buy your next TV, that way you can avoid motion judder :).

With the release of Black Ops this November, I really want to know how the sales of Reach are going to compete with the sales of CoD Black Ops.
Any who, Reach is so far my most wanted title for the 360 beating Alan Wake by just a margin because of its uberly awesome MP. It used to be ME2 and Conviction but those two are already out :)

Well it's still Spring and the only release date they've given is 'Fall 2010' (hopefully that means September). This means they have a whole Seattle Summer to avoid the sun (yes it exists in the NW!) and stay white and pasty while polishing the hell out of Reach.
