Are you sure? I went to a well known video rental chain that was going out of business yet they still could not sell certain dvds and video games below a certain price. It was like only $5-10 cheaper than it would normally be. I'm not sure how or why but do you think GC will actually have their prices even lower?

We have an independent video game retailer in our (small) town called Game On. I think they're foolish for opening it up, especially since we already have a Gamestop. I've still decided to support them until they inevitably get the same fate as Game Crazy. Poor, naive young entrepreneurs :(

I live in the DFW area and have never even seen these stores. All I have is an Entertainmart (screw them, they go out to stores and buy up entire inventories and sell them at higher prices, and are known to sell stolen goods. Hell, the policed raided the store once and found out over 75% of their merchandise was stolen), GameStop, and other major retailers (Best Buy, WalMart, etc).

Saddly here it's the small store that's worse then all the Major Retailers, or the Major Retailers which got you by the balls.

The Game Crazy (and Hollywood Video - what the Movie Gallery's are called here) closed down a couple weeks ago. Those discounted games you're hoping for weren't all that great. 20% off all their new game BUT all the new releases and popular game were gone and all older games were back behind the counter. Sorry but $45 and 20% off (so $36) for Little Big Planet (pre-GOTY edition) is not a big discount when I can get the GOTY edition at Wal-Mart for $30.

These close-outs are just a way to get people to think they're getting a good deal when they're paying too much for old junk getting cleaned out of the warehouse. Anything new/decent gets sent back to be sold on Amazon.

There is (err... were) plenty of Game Crazies in Phoenix, AZ. A cousin of mine was going to be a manager of one... until it shut down during the first wave of closures.

@Kerby
Well that's because, unluckily for you, your Game Crazy closed when there were still more Game Crazys to take in their old stock. Thus, of course it wouldn't be that much cheaper.
But considering Movie Gallery is apparently just dead now, then yes, there should be a huuuge drop in prices. It should be similar to what happened to Circuit City when they went out of business.

Maybe you'll get luck and get a Play and Trade. They've been growing lately and they serve fairly well to the retro market. Not a bad place to walk around and check things out if you ask me.

This is very disappointing, as I always made an effort to go to Game Crazy rather than GameStop because--at least with the store I went to--there was a world of difference between the two. Game Crazy's prices were better, their trade-in offers were actually fair (GameStop's trade-in "value" is literally robbery), and they actually carried games made before the last generation of consoles. Unfortunately my location closed over a year ago.

Such a better store, that they're going out of business.

Sounds like one was doing something right, and the other wasn't.

Yes, they didn't screw over the consumer, so they needed higher volumes of sales to match Gamestops raping.

That, and they are part of a company that rents DVDs, which is a rather hard thing to do while staying in business.

Ah, i love ignorant people that dont know what theyre talking about. Game crazy was great and actually profitable in many instances, but they were owned by movie gallery/hollywood... which was ran by idiots. If the parent company fails to be profitable, then how can gamecrazy continue operation. Gamestop had nothing to do with their demise.

Agreed. Except in the past year, their attitudes have gotten as bad if not worse than Gamestop's to the point of being outright A-holes & racists at times. Prices are still better than Gamestop's, true story.

Friend of mine is a manager at Movie Gallery...over the past couple years they have moved him from store to store...they informed him yesterday that he will have much more "free time" as they are closing down all of their stores nationwide. He said they will begin liquidating within the next few weeks.

This whole thing sucks. I bought a bunch of used and new handhelds and consoles around Christmas because I knew I would get 1 sheet of free game rentals for each console. I had 5 sheets meaning 5 free week long game or movie rentals from Hollywood video every month and now just 4 months later all the local HV stores closed up shop and these next 8 months of coupons (45 week long game or movie rentals) are worthless lol.

Should add I was going to buy the hardware either way but chose GC instead of getting slightly cheaper prices at best buy or other package deals at Gamestop just because of those damn free rentals heh.

I can't say I've been a fan of the Gamecrazy in my town. The employees are rude and the story is never what I would consider clean. So I'll have to say I'm indifferent to them closing.

Yeah, same with the GC in my town. Most of the employees had a smug, "holier-than-thou" attitude every time I went in. I always felt like they were talking down to me when answering questions and if they didn't know the answer, they acted like it wasn't worth knowing. Of course, there were a couple of friendly ones.

Either way, it saddens me to see the brick-&-mortar stores disappearing... and it sucks that people have to lose their jobs.

Good luck guys! (yeah, even to the douche-bags)

I agree with you on that Trickob. I'm from Lewiston as well, one thing that has always plagued that store in my opinion were the managers that ran it. Usually the general employees were cool, but like you said the others were douchbags. It's still unfortunate for it to be closing if this is true, especially in Lewiston because there is nothing else at the moment. Generally I do all my shopping off Amazon, but I'd better hurry over and finish off my Game Crazy gift card just in case it does shut down.
