Looks like some of the jackoffs at NeoGAF think Justin's review showed a 'lack of effort' in playing.

Waitaminute, I thought reading Joystiq was against their 'code of conduct'? And not to mention some of them are the same people who would shit on Super Mario Bros. and Zelda: Ocarina of Time for some no-name PC game from the late '90s/early '00s.

Oops, I guess my membership won't get approved now! *rolls eyes*

I think the problem is you just suck at video games. That does not look that hard.

This is satirical right? I like this site, this is kind of hilarious, I get the joke, he made a mistake and decided not to fish at right place for an hour and he's crying over it, what an idiot, haha, right?

Not going to buy this game either way, seems like a shitty game, but keep up the good work with the satire, yea gamers are so stupid these days and can't even follow a marker, and look at all these comments sucking on you! It's so sad.

Same thing happened to me. I spent about 30 minutes on that beach and the nearby docks trying to catch a shaman fish. Finally I decided to just take a break and go exploring, and that's when I realized the marker on the mini-map was pointing to a different beach. Argh!

However, it's too bad you gave up, as the game is good overall.

Do your fishing mini-game like Okami's or don't do it at all.

Okami fishing .. I don't know. Talk about sucky parts in a game, I know that Okami (Wii) is a great game in many ways. I really enjoyed it.. up until the pervert old man dances and you have to circle the bloomin' flowers in the tree.

No matter what, and I tried many times over many days, I could not get past the last one or two flowers. I would get almost there, and then his silly dance would pick up a bit, and somehow I'd do something wrong (not sure if my timing wasn't right, or if my circle wasn't perfect enough.. just know that.. I put Okami on a shelf and always think that it would probably have been a really great game if could have just moved past that part.

I actually do fish in real life, and the time it takes to reel it in once it is on the hook can be anywhere from 30 seconds for a sunfish to longer than your video. Nonetheless, that was a terrible minigame with realism in all the wrong places.

Maybe I'm just too ol' school OG original gamer and all, but I absolutely despise fishing mini-games; it's why I quit the Wii Zelda. I play games to kick ass and take names, not to do something I wouldn't even want to do in real life.

The only game I ever played a decent fishing mini-game was on Sims 3 for the iPhone, and that's because it's quick and simple.

I was able to catch a shamman fish in a matter of 30 seconds. That doesn't look like the bar for shamman fish either....I think you're doing something wrong.

This video makes me sad, because this game is actually really good and you're downplaying it because you're fishing (a side quest, mind you) in the wrong place. If you would fish in the right place and talk to the old fisherman, you'd know that he helps you get better at it and you no longer have the problem you're having (you actually "level up" in fishing, in a sense). Also, this is a side quest and not necessary to complete the game, so you could have just given up, played the rest of the game, and reviewed it.

Actually the part where he has to catch the shaman fish is a part of the main quest, so he is required to do this part to review the game. The fact that he failed to do it is ridiculous, but he WAS required to complete it to review it. I cannot see how you get this to be a good game. It has a horrible story and characters, and the pacing of the action is ridiculous. It is also far too easy, and it isn't even worth playing for achievements. Even the graphics are horrible. They are outdated to the point that I'm having a hard time understanding how square got themselves to publish it, and whoever designed the shades, which you fight for the majority of the game should be shot.

I can totally understand the frustrations, but once I figured it out and pushed down on the joystick just at the right time the bar when down really fast. Was the game updated through Xbox Live maybe? Either way, Nier is definitely worth playing and has merits stylistically rather than graphically, I avoided saving Yonah for so long because I saw this video and was like damn I don't want to do that. But thanks Justin for helping me through it!

Its great because he was fishing in the wrong spot the WHOLE TIME!! He should have looked at his map cuz it tells you were to fish and it is easier

why it took so long for me to find this video?

@(Unverified) yes, knowing that fact makes the video even more funny

Nier is actually a pretty cool game, playing it right now. I have to agree the fishing mechanics suck, however, it's not that hard and it's completely optional minigame bullshit so, not a big game breaking deal at all.

Uhm.... He's fishing in the wrong place. He only had to go to where the huge red X on his map was to fish. I dislike the game, and in my user review on GB I gave it 1.5/5, but this right here is honestly not where the game fails. If you are too stupid to follow the huge marker on your map telling you where anything you need to do in the game is, then maybe games aren't the thing for you.

I totally agree on the soulless bastards that came up with the way fishing is done in this game. after staying up till 5 in the morning trying to catch that fricken fish. finally I gave up and went to bed. I really liked the game till I got to this part. not up to what you usually expect from square enix but not bad till this fishing hell. I've recruited my husband and while I caught nothing he's caught 6 aquatic plants and 3 tin cans. His blood pressure is still rising. totally not worth the expense.

You know, if you actually follow the mission marker, it will take you to a different beach where you will immediately catch the fish your are looking for. You'll do it on the first or second try. And after that, fishing will be a much better experience. If you try to fish after that and get the same results as you are now, you will know you are doing something wrong. There are 3 factors that seem to go into fishing in the game: Location, Bait and Skill level. You need the right bait (soltwater bait for saltwater and fresh water bait for fresh water, though once your level is high enough (that's your fishing skill level)) you can use the lure anywhere.

In all honesty, I didn the same thing and spent an hour trying to complete this quest. I finally got bored and decided to see what else I could do, so I followed the mission marker on the mini-map, which led to a different beach. Once I fished there, the mechanic made perfect sense (very much like Okami's fishing).

the problem is you naturally think you're supposed to move it left or right but you have to pull it down-left or down-right, which makes more sense anyway
