Has any other system lasted at long as the PS2? According to Wiki the last licensed game for the NES was 1994; which would make the system 11 years old I believe.
I wonder if the PS2 can beat that record...

Neo-Geo AES had a 14 year run for software (official, first party at that).
Atari VCS/2600 probably had the longest, but with it's open development it's really hard to gauge when and where to draw the line with it. One of the last big games that I'm aware of was Ghostbusters II, and I think 'Atari' supported the console with development through at least 1990 so about 13 years (more depending on your definition of support).
And of course, the Game Boy had games through about 2003 (maybe later - I think Hamtaro was the last by Nintendo at least). So that's at least another 14 year lifespan.
NES/Famicom sat at 11, SNES/SFC sat at 10 . . . I'm sure there are more notables, especially with Mega Drive and Master System, just don't know the specifics.

maybe I'm getting it confused with the game that was developed by and indian developer....dunno...I DO remember seeing that the PS2 had JUST launched in a few countries last year tho....

You're right Chris, but I don't think it's India. If I recall correctly, it just came out in parts of South America, like Brazil. Of course, this is just officially; unofficially (via imports) they've had it for a while. I doubt we'll see Brazillian devs pop out and make PS2 games though.

Dear Sony....it's been 10 years now..let it go....I mean the PS3 is about to be profitable, and I'm sure you have a PSP2 in the works somewhere....focus your resources completely on other things....like I dunno...COMPLETE SOFTWARE EMULATION for the PS3 to play PS2 games.....

Cap thats sad in itself....there are ways to play PS2 games on a PC but sony can't get one of the kids that made that software, pay him lots of money, and get it to work on the PS3? terrible
