God of War: Ghost of Sparta brings Kratos back to PSP

It looks like we finally know what the "Spartans Stand Tall" teaser site was all about. Sony has just announced God of War: Ghost of Sparta, a new PSP-exclusive game developed by Ready At Dawn Studios, the same team responsible for Chains of Olympus. "Excitement for the God of War franchise is at an all-time high and we're thrilled to continue that momentum with God of War: Ghost of Sparta," Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, product marketing, SCEA, said in a press release. "This new adventure will showcase Kratos on PSP like never before in an experience that fans and newcomers can enjoy on the go, anytime, anywhere."

Ghost of Sparta features Kratos once again, this time in an adventure that takes place after the first God of War on PS2 and delves into Kratos' rise to power. According to Sony, Ready At Dawn will utilize "state-of-the-art visual technologies" that will allow "higher quality environments and characters." In addition, Ghost of Sparta will offer "over 25% more gameplay" than its PSP predecessor, while adding more enemies on screen, and a greater number of boss encounters.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta is planned for release "later this year." We expect a lot more to be revealed at E3.

Dude you should just buy a replacement screen and replace it yourself. Its really easy. I fixed my 2000 model and i fixed a customers 3000 model yesterday.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the graphics look that good. Sony has a tendency to push their tech to the limit. Just look at GoW2. Game came out in march of '07 along with 360 and PS3 games and it looked amazing in it's own right.

Ready at dawn are Wizards, they do unbelievable things with the PSP and I thought Chains of Olympus was their limit, so to hear that it will look better and have more content is really surprising.

if ya think that the psp inst capable of that kind of beauty, go play daxter and the first god of war for psp.

I remember an interview with a guy from R@D where he said that CoO was only using 85% of the PSP's potential. I guess this is closer to 100%

Wait, God of War usually releases in March so SCEA may be saying the game will release this 'fiscal' year. Most likely Q4 of 2010 which is March 2011.

Oh well, I still can't wait!!!!

Time to buy a psp again. God of War is my favorite franchise.

This is such excellent news! The PSP doesn't have a lot of great dev's and I was sad when Joystiq reported Ready At Dawn was done with the system.

I've been wanting a PSP for a while. But I keep hearing rumors about a "PSP2" announcement at E3, so I'm gonna hold off til then. But this makes the wait even tougher now. Been dying to play Chains of Olympus.

Also, is it possible we will see some GOW3 DLC? I thought that's what the whole SpartansStandTall.com thing was teasing.

The "PSP2 rumors" are almost exclusively from fanboy nerds who can't wait for an excuse to thrown more money at Sony. The PSP continues to rock all on its own.

I really don't foresee Sony going with a PSP2 just yet. Somehow I think Sony's interest would more so be in developing a PSP/Phone hybrid to compete with Apple's Iphone. The PSP Go is almost small as small as a cell phone and their minis app store is becoming more robust with gaming content. It seems like their slowing heading the direction of PSP/Phone.

How does this fit in the storyline though?

After GoW I Kratos is a god, right? So he shouldn't he be 1000 feet tall and invincible or whatever?

Play the second one and then you will understand

Now we get to live through his story as a God and what not ie. We'll get to have alot of good times with Aphrodite ;)

He most likely will command his spartan army and you know murder people.

I wonder if this is before or after Betrayal.

otlw athena makes him small at the very beginning of the second one and takes his powers away. so yeah after the first one and before the second one he should be 1000 ft tall. there's no way he'd fit one the psp

Guess it's time to figure out what drawer I stuck that PSP in after I beat Crisis Core like 6 months ago.

This is awesome and all....

...but what I really want is a God of War Tactics. Take Final Fantasy Tactics/Tactics Ogre gameplay with Kratos and other GOW characters.
