I think they're just downvoting you, Spike because you feel the need to post in EVERY article posted, with cheap comments geared to get votes. I mean seriously dude, do you just refresh joystiq all day?

Thanks Alex, but it's getting out of hand. Tired of getting ripped on for making positive comments. I supported the Bethesda review, got downvoted. People get upset that I post a lot because I have the open time to. Might just be jealousy, might not be. But there's been a flood of people coming in lately that's ruining this site. I post my comments in a COMMENT section, and people hate it. Don't understand why. But it's getting old fast.

Doesn't matter what they think or say. You are giving you insight to a site designed solely for people to communicate on gaming news. Last time I checked that's what a comment section was for. Who cares if someone comments on every single article?

Btw Mywhitenoise I know my brother well enough that his intentions are not to comment and try and get votes. We are Gamers we have been our entire lives. We just like to share our thoughts and information about the gaming community. I could care less if I get votes and I'm positive he really doesn't care either.

spike, why do you even care so much about how people vote on your comments?

They don't like them, so they vote them down. That's how it works. Stop whining about it. I don't notice you enough to know if you contribute. But apparently most people don't like your comments, and I don't see what it matters.

you're acting like you're being oppressed, but at least in this thread, your comments are terrible. You're the problem here.

Spike, the douches aren't anything new here, there are tons of people that love to down vote comments for all the wrong reasons. It's better to just avoid posting if it bothers you. Seriously. I could politely and intelligently articulate why I like Link to the Past more than any of the newer Zelda games, but if I posted it here, I'd get down voted simply because people don't agree with it. The voting system shoukd really be in place to help weed through the trolls and the offensive posts. It shouldn't be some dumb popularity contest. And it certainly shouldn't be used to put peoples' opinions down if they are voiced in a decent manner.

But hey, that's Joystiq. There are some decent people here.

Oh, and I, too, am guilty of refreshing Joystiq too often at work. Smartphones are making it really easy to do that sort of thing.

As to the question of how the PS3 version looks...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/rage-may-2010-preview?page=1

(Oh, and in case you're wondering, Willits claims it's currently even more stable on PS3.)

Stable =/= better looking, but.. still a positive sign for those wanting the PS3 version.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze
If it has (stable) 60fps it is great progress since those early alpha builds that had preformance issues on PS3 not even year ago.
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/30/edge-rage-running-at-60fps-on-360-just-20-to-30fps-on-ps3/

As to why it was shown on X360 it probably was easiest platform to get running newest build.
ID is dependable developer - they will get as close parity as possible - so no big worries about PS3 version.

@Spike :: Don't worry mun, everything's gonna be alright. I use Google Reader to keep tabs on Joystiq frequently, and sometimes I make a comment (like now). Despite you getting down-voted many times, it is nowhere near as bad as it can be on a site like Engadget. You will get flamed on that site for making a criticism and will be labeled a Fan-boy if you have anything to say about Apple, Microsoft, Google or Facebook. You may also be called a Troll or an Idiot, you have been warned ;) I think I have read at least one of your comments everyday so far and have not had a problem with any as-of-now. Maybe today you're just attracting unwanted attention because your called spike and some people have hit some nasty difficulty spikes in their games or some s*** like that.

The coke machine scares me into thinking they will have 50s nostalgia and post apocolyptic combat and surviving a futuristic vault or arc that didn't work right.

It's so derivative of Fallout that you have to wonder what the hell is wrong with iD. This is the golden age for devs. They can come up with something more creative than just ripping off the GOTY they like the most.

+1 Carmack is the godfather of the fps genre..

Practically all fps' have been generated and/or inspired courtesy of id software..

cod based on quake 3 engine, moh based on q3 engine, Valves old engine based on quake 2 engine..

Even modern warfare 1 & 2 look through the credits and notice id software mentioned and quake3 engine mentioned (i think its a heavily modified q3 engine driving it).

The work he has done puts him on legendary status, he has pushed development within many open source projects and opensources practically all of his games engines which is just awesome. he has pushed opengl development. He truly deserves utmost respect.

I really hope this turns out to be a great game.

"moh based on q3 engine"

This is incorrect. Only two PC games, Allied & Pacific Assault and Allied's two expansion packs used q3 engine. The original Playstation games, which started the series did not. Along with the other console versions. Airborne & the new MOH both use Unreal Engine 3 and MOH also uses Frostbite for it's multiplayer engine.

regenerative health adds strategy.

Generally i hate having my gaming experience set in stone by a health bar that only get refilled when and only when the developers want it to be.

In an RPG I'd say a bar forces strategy more,it means you have to stockpile health more.

But is that a fun game mechanic?
"Stock piling health potions"

see thats one of the problems of regenerating health "NO one Wants to run around looking for chicken pot pies" or

. . . . that not the exact quote but it was something to that effect.

Regenerative health does not add strategy, it restricts level design. I can't think of one shooter with regenrative health that creates a tense series of encounters that you have to survive; it's always ither a wave, an arena fight, or waves in an arena. I miss corridor shooters!

Furthermore, I can't think of one scenario in a game with the standard implementation of regenerative that couldn't be done with a fixed health system, but I could think of scenarios that can't be done when your character regains all of his HP 5 seconds after being hit.

I don't even think it's the regenerative health that bothers me, it's that in almost every implementation, you can just hop behind a wall for 5 seconds to regain health. Personally, I think that encourages repitition.

Preparing for the inevitable swarm of disagreements.. :/

this is something we can agree on : ) Make the wait longer and its fixed. But i dont think anybody has fun running around a map (or corridor) looking for chicken pot pies or stock piling unnecessary health "just encase"

I thought I was getting tired of regenerating health, too. That is, until I went back and played another FPS without it. Honestly, I hated it and I was begging for regenerating health again. I found having the health bar displayed on the screen and picking up health kits to be kind of archaic.

I can't argue with searching for health packs. Nobody thinks that is fun. I just wish devs would get a little bit more creative with the health system if they want to avoid med kit searching.

What about like the old Tomb Raider system? You can find Med Kits around, they go to your inventory, and you can use them when you want. I liked that one. The only problem with it is that you can get stuck at a tough part with no kits left and have to start the level over. And we don't really have "levels" that oftem in games anymore.

Lost Planet 2's system is OK. Similar to regenerative health, but I think it takes a bit longer, you have to use the .. What's it called.. Resonator? manually, and it has a limited (albeit large) supply that can be refilled with pickups from enemies and the environment. I give that one at least one thumb up.

Personally, I think someone should experiment with a danger system, where your health doesn't start regenerating until you are out of danger. When no enemies are around, it refills. That way, you can't run to the other side of an arena and hop behind a barricade. The whole arena fight becomes the challenge, instead of this enemy or that enemy. I dunno. I'm not a lead game designer, so I just post here XD

One of the best systems I've seen it in Resistance 1 for the PS3. Your health bar is divided into 4 or 5 sections (don't recall exactly how many). If you only lose part of a section, that portion will regenerate. However, if your health drops to a lower section, it will still only refill to the top of the current section. To regain lost sections you have to find health vials. This was a simple and effective marriage of regenerative health and health packs.

I've seen nothing better since, although I've seen other games implement similar strategies. Just Cause 2, for example, was using a similar system where minor damage would regenerate, but larger losses resulted in permanently lowered health until you got to one of the aid stations.
