EA's upcoming reboot to the Medal of Honor franchise has a few major contenders, one of which EA itself created, to compete with when it arrives at retail this October. But EA Games prez Frank Gibeau remains confident in MoH, telling Gamasutra in a recent interview that, "With Medal of Honor, we're rebooting the series to get into the top 10." Gibeau lays out plans for an extensive marketing campaign first aimed at "core shooter fans," then branching out to a "true mass-market campaign." Speaking frankly, he claims "It'll be a big launch with a lot of dollars behind it. We're going to go in and we're going to compete." He believes that, between the IP's pedigree and the quality of this reboot, EA's " going to be in the Medal of Honor business for a long time."
Meanwhile, executive producer Greg Goodrich and senior creative director Rich Farrelly do their best to assuage worries of internal competition between themselves at EA LA and DICE, the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer now working on MoH's multiplayer mode, or the ex-Infinity Ward founders' new studio that EA recently inked a deal with. Goodrich says, "Battlefield and Medal of Honor are two very different franchises. They have a certain tone, and we have a certain tone for our game. We think there's room for both, not only in the genre, but within EA."
Also of note, apparently DICE has been working on MoH's multiplayer since "right after Battlefield 1943 came out" (last July), which might help to explain why we've seen such little post-launch support for the downloadable title. That said, with Medal of Honor's development assuredly nearing completion, we're holding out hope that those folks will have some time to invest in the other downloadable title we heard about recently.

Although I admit that there are a lot of Medal of Honor games, it shouldn't be considered miliking if its a rebooting of the franchise.

But yeah, their long term plans do make it look like they're going down that road (maybe only if the game's a success, which it looks like its shaping up to be).

I wonder how long it takes til EA grows up to be the bad guy again, and activision goes back to being the less-evil alternative

I think the problem is that publishers are just like any other middle man tend to be, by nature, douchebags. So it's just a question of degree. Ubi are total pr*cks, too. Just look at the AC2 DRM on the PC. there are some exceptions but, really, their role is basically that of a somewhat necessary evil.
So, right now, EA look like the good guys because they're standing next to pure and total evil (a Bobby Kotick headed Activsion)... but really deep down in their heart they're still massive tools who are just on their best behavior while trying to play catch up.

MoH and CoD used to be neck and neck with each other back in the early days on PC, so I'm hoping this reboot brings MoH back to a greater level of competition. It has a lot, in terms of its development talent pool to work with.

Agreed, MoH was 'the' game of choice, before COD went mental, and unfortunately MoH went downhill like a newly shot war criminal.
This reboot, from the footage I have seen, looks remarkably like the recent COD's, fast and frentic and full of action. I hope the controls are on a par, and multiplayer appears quick, with a small dose of tactics (after all, its DICE!) to level the playing field and show COD fanboys that there are other choices worth putting your time and effort into.
Only time will tell. 6 months of time at least.
MoH - lets see you back where you belong.
Ohh... and EA - please dont charge £10.99/$14.99 for a bloody map pack please.
Thank you.

SpaceFox?! Aren't you the guy who came with me to the Battlefield 1943 Vault when BF1943 didn't win anything at the Spike VGA's? No? Anyways...
I don't mind these packs...as long as they're free. But yes I really would like a map pack with new maps...or perhaps a new gamemode.

Nope, just EA messing up once more. No release date for that yet.
Getting really sick of it, BC2 is a great game but the lack of support is appalling. The VIP "map packs" we've been getting btw are just unlocked off the disc, not even true DLC. Makes you think, what the hell have they been doing the past two months? I sure hope to God we can expect some real awesome DLC soon.

One thing I always hated about Medal of Honor was it was you vs the entire Third Reich. Thats why CoD was so big when it came out: You had a squad for most of the game and you felt like you were working together. Of course CoD got just as stupid when the games became a spray and pray, health recharging console Halo clone.
Hopefully MOH will be something truly new

DOES THIS NOT SET OFF ANY ALARMS PEOPLE?!?
The post release support for Battlefield was TERRIBLE! None of the promised DLC and now, good luck getting into a game with no lag, because the've dropped a good chunk of the servers - after 1 YEAR!
What do you think will happen after Medal of Honor drops? They'll start working on the next game, whether it be another MOH or another Battlefield, regardless, they'll stop supporting this current MOH. Do we really want to put our money to that franchise after hearing this?
I was going to jump on board, just to spite Call of Duty (due to the DLC price increases), but after reading this, I'm up in the air again... maybe I'll just have to be content with Halo: Reach.

You know why Medal of Honour will eventually trump CoD ... because it has more beard in it ... to break down the math:
Chuck Norris has a beard, thats a positive value of 1
Captain price has a mustache but not a beard so thats a value of 0 since its neither negative or positive
Soap has no beard, we can assume that Ghost doesn't either so thats -1
Since there will be dudes in MoH sporting epic beards like Chuck Norris, they get +1
CoD on the other hand ... - 0.5
I have just mathematically proven why MoH > CoD
