Exactly. Focusing on these gimmicky controllers will detract from a good game. If your'e gonna make a natal/move game, don't make it a cheap port.

Gimmicky controllers? I've had a Wii since launch day and never once was i compelled to think that a game i was playing was gimmicky and could be done better with a normal controller. Heck i don't even know how i could have ever played something like Zelda:TP, Madworld, Metroid Prime Trilogy, RE4 or Tiger Woods 10 without the Wii controls. Going back now to a normal controller now just feels like a step back....unless it's a fighting game of course. I'm 100x more inclined to get a Ps3 with the Move being similar to what the Wii offer with controls, and if RE5 gets a patch with Move controls, it'll be a 10x better game too.

Agreed.

They should develop new, original games that take advantage of the strengths of both devices.

Of course, I assume that's not going to happen, except in rare cases.

Thats the opposite. Taking a good wii game and porting it adds more complexity, but making a game that supports move/natal dumbs it down for the average gamer with a controller.

So the gameplay > graphics argument is null and void then?

So tired of people either whining "Wii has no games" and/or Wishing Wii games get ported to another system.
Just get a Wii. Problem solved.

Same goes for Wii fans wanting ports of HD games. Get the system they are on if you want to play.

Even though THQ is steering away from direct ports, I still see Move getting more ports than Natal since its so similar to the Wii.

Yeah, but I'd love to see a Red Steel on the PS3 or 360. The first one on the Wii(sold 2 years ago) was amazing.

You thought Red Steel 1 was a great game?!
Even as a proud Wii owner I wanted my 4 hours back after playing that game.

Red Steel was aweful. I got it at launch day, sunk 6 hours into it, swapped it the next day for Tony Hawk Downhill Jam (and loved it ever since).

I would like to see natal used for headtracking in racing games, that would be a worthy usage in my book.

Since the PS Eye is doing that for GT5 (no need for Move) can the Xbox's camera not do the same without Natal?

They better do something good. That company has been hemorrhaging money for years and producing mostly crap.

I own all WH40k games, except the new DoW 2 expansions (waiting to be able to run DoW2 for that[stupid unsupported videocard]). And all the Red Fraction games.

THQ hasn't produced must play games but they've given us some decent IP's. I was a little let down with darksiders but it was okay. I'm hoping for the sequel to fix a few problems.

Their problem IMO is they have too many rental games that are not memorable. Still this news is good to hear.

At first glance I read the title as, "THQ CEO: Move and Natal games shouldn't be (s)ports

"What you will not see is porting of games to Natal, or I don't think you should see that," he said. "I think they should be specific, standalone game experiences that exploit that very new and significant technology.

Farrell said that development costs for Natal and Move games were lower than on traditional games... [and] even alluded to passing the savings on to the consumer, rather than defaulting to a $60 retail price.

I like this guy's vision. I won't mention any names, but I can think of a lot of other developers and publishers that wouldn't live by these principles.

You couldn't port a Wii game to Natal anyway, unless you wanted to make it less of a game. The Wii has buttons. You'd have to seriously alter or cut back on a port to get it to work with Natal, given the limited control options it offers.

Natal is going to blow major donkey chunks without force feedback controllers in your hands anyways... but yes... ports would just make Natal look even worse than it already will be.
