It looks like Bungie is well on its way to engaging its expected three million plus players for the Halo: Reach beta. According to a recent news post on Bungie.net, the ongoing Reach beta logged well over a million players on its first public day. Specifically, the beta saw 1,170,112 total players, who manage to frag, stick, headshot, pummel or otherwise maim one another 157,972,986 times over the 14,205,611 games played, totaling 936,864,266 seconds of play time. That's 260,240 man hours or over 29 man years.
If you prefer your jaw-dropping facts to be less numerical, Bungie concluded that the Reach beta saw more action on its first day than the Halo 3 beta did over its entire three-week run.
One stat missing from the rundown: How many jet packs were used? We're presuming the number is incalculable.

Nice numbers.
I hope this does well for Bungie on their way out of the Halo game.
Of course, it's freakin' Halo, so of course it's going to do well.

Pretty impressive numbers. I'm honestly surprised that the Halo brand has done so well over the years. I've never really been into the whole thing myself, though I've still managed to play through about half of the games.

This means the Xbox team must have served over 1.1 petabytes of data... That must break some kind of record.

I'm enjoying it. Its a lot more tactical than the old run, gun and slap techniques from Halo 3.
And yes, the jetpacks are probably the most used AA in the game. They're also surprisingly easy to defeat so I ain't complaining

I've noticed that as well.
Guardian and sprint seem pretty redundant so most players have resorted to the invisibility and jet pack classes.

Personally Halo Reach Multiplayer has been a fun experience I just hope they can build from it and make it better.

20,000 people or so got in with codes, but approximately, yes. I'm unsure if they are counting guest account and/or recovered accounts though. There is also an a method of getting the beta without owning ODST or a code, but I doubt it affects the numbers much.

To be honest I was a casual Halo player, you own the Xbox why not? But I REALLY loved ODST. The atmosphere is amazing imo. Reach was also different from the typical Halo experience.

I'll probably get down-ranked into a dark nexus for this one, but I think the beta is good, but not great.
Graphics: gorgeous for Halo games
2 beta maps: Sword base is pretty cool, don't care too much for the other one
Guns: I really like the new additions. I do think the damage needs turned up a tad. I don't feel the DMR is a suitable replacement for the BR. Glad to see the pistol back in it's old glory.
Leveling system: I like the new credits you can earn for new armor.
Health System: Don't like the health pack idea.
Armor Abilities: This is what turned me off the most, none of them feel like big game changers. Sprint should be added as a standard ability for everyone. Jetpacks should be attainable in game items. Armor lock just delays the inevitable. Invisibility is cool but shouldn't jam the user's radar. The Elite/Covenant Evade should be a standard ability for the Elite's.
I understand the game is still in beta form but Bungie please reconsider the new AA's and tweak them. Maybe create like 8 new abilities and see what should be regular abilities, and what could change the Halo Loadouts to create really unique classes/loadouts. Don't make it (heaven forbid) COD, but make the last Halo game uniquely fresh and go out with a bang!

Armor lock does more than delay the inevitable. If you wait around for an armor lock to disengage, prepare to be shot by one of their teammates more often than not. And invisibility jams your radar so that you know there's an invisible guy around. That's a good thing

Armor lock. I stuck a guy with a grenade, then he turned on armor lock, and then he didn't die then it blew up. If used right it can be very effective.

Honestly, I'm still not feeling the pistol. I feel like the reticule inflates too much when I try to fire quickly. Not saying it needs to stay accurate at sniper range, but I wish it would at least stay a little more controlled.
On the other hand, I love the DMR. It took a little while to get used to, but now I think it's great. Could be a little stronger I guess, but it seems fine to me.
I do agree though that invisibility shouldn't jam your own radar. I don't use armor lock, but it seems like a perfectly good ability.

I've been having loads of fun with the beta (I played 8 hours strait the first day and I don't usually get into multiplayer that much) but damn near everyone uses up all the Covenant weapons so I'd love bungie to add more to the maps of even better offer more loadouts with Covenant weapons.

I heard that there were going to be 4 maps, but I've only seen 2 after several hours of playing, so far.
I totally didn't get the 10 flag ctf mode. It was too confusing with little indication of when I was doing it right. I'm willing to admit that I'm mostly to blame, but it still wasn't fun for me.
I've really been wanting to play other modes besides ctf and team slayer, but haven't been give the opportunity to yet.
I like the voting options for game types/maps, but I don't like how it starts with everyone on a choice. There should be 0 votes for any choice by default and force people to be engaged or miss out. Boring gametypes are chosen by people not paying any attn between gametypes and I refuse to be that desparate guy screaming at people to vote for the map I want. I have PTSD flashbacks of shrieks of kids yelling "veto!, veto!"
I die a lot with them, but I can't stop using jetpacks. jetpacks are the shit. I can see that Guard could be cool with good teamwork.. As in when a teammate is in trouble using guard while you spam his battle area with grenades.
Pretty, mostly petty comments for a game I can see myself playing for quite a while. Good times, indeed.

One map comes out with a new game type on Friday the 7th.
The final map comes out on the 14th.
The reason you play CTF and other objective games is because you're in the grab bag standard playlist. Switch to Arena, which is exclusively team slayer. That is, if you want more "overkill!" and less "dropped the flag!"
Fair point on the voting system.
AAs are just great. I prefer armor lock, myself.

Ah, nice.. thanks for the heads-up on the upcoming maps/game type. That makes sense.
Someone last night was telling me that he had already played the other maps, but he did seem to have misunderstood what I was asking because he proceeded to talk about his rank.
p.s. I'm undecided on the new weapons.

Ha, stockpile. The first time we played all four of my friends were so confused on what was going on, it didn't matter, the other team was doing worse. We eventually started calling it numberwang. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjOZtWZ56lc
When I finally figured out what you were supposed to do we dominated. Near the end the other team did figure it out.

Yeah, but that's because ODST sold a lot more than Crackdown did. Not everyone was willing to buy a "cartoony" sandbox game for a FPS demo, but lots of people will buy a FPS to play a bonus FPS demo.
(Not dissing Crackdown- bought my copy on ebay the day after the beta ended for $15... best $15 game I ever bought)

I love it, it's really fun. Headhunter is like crack! The one AA that I do wish was a standard feature is the Sprinting. Damn it feels so good to be able to run in Halo. I'm ready for the new map tomorrow! I love Powerhouse, Sword base is just aight.

I'm absolutely loving the gameplay but I do hope they fix up parts of the interface. The font seems too small especially in the aftergame battle report. Also, you can't see how many of each medal you earned. It's the little things like that I hope they fix.

Bungie: All your hours are belong to us.
Say what you will about the franchise but there is very little doubt it's the most popular multiplayer game of all time.

Something's not right. There's only 158M deaths over 14M games played. That averages out to only 11 deaths per game. Kind of a low number, isn't it?
