This is not up for debate or a matter of opinion or preference.

It is Final Fantasy IX. Fact.

I...I have a confession to make...I have never played FF IX...I understand if you're crying right now in utter disappointment.

But I'm so glad we're having this release to PSN. I'll finally be able to live what many say is awesome. Can't wait.

ff9 is great because it doesn't take itself so seriously. It's also amazing for a PS1 game. It succeeded in ways FF8 didn't. FF8 had a great plot that they never finished, I think because they wanted to release an actual sequel and never did, but also it was more ambitious than the PS1 platform allowed. FF7 was pretty great despite the ridiculous overpraise it gets from some fans. FF6, however, is the truly best in the series. The SNES version is just as good as the special better versions, and no one has an excuse not to play it. Great game.

9 and 6 are near perfect, 8 and 7 and 12 are flawed but very strong.

VIII needed a bit more level grind. As it stood, you could walk through the plot without ever needing to go explore the world.

FF8 was a great game with a terrible flaw. The draw mechanic kicked my OCD into hyperdrive and made me hate the game even while I was playing it.

It wasn't the drawing that bothered me, it was the junction system that drove me nuts. Especially when I'd spend 10 minutes getting all my junctions set up only to enter a Laguna sequence and need to revise them. That said, FF8 was still an awesome game... just a bit tedious at times. FF9's my favorite on the PSX overall, but 7 and 8 are also among the best FF's out there.

Drawing magic was tedious but foolishly I didn't understand the concept of refining magic from items until my third or fourth play through the game.

The draw/junction system was my favorite part of the game. Granted, I didn't even use it the first time I played through (i was stupid) but once i understood it made the game so much better.

Can we just talk about how awesome the card game was in FFVIII? Easily the best of them.

I loved the draw system. There is nothing like putting 100 Deaths in your sword. Also this FF had the best mini game ever: Triple Triad. I've never been into card games but this one was so addictive. I spent about 25% of the game collecting all the cards.

They're all good, but IX had the most like-able characters, stayed truer to the oldschool games, and wasn't filled with Angst and drama.

Now hurry up and release Zidane and co. so I can play all three PSX titles in one day! :)

All three in one day? Good luck with that...

Well, in FF IX if you get to the last part in under 14 hours you get the best weapon in the game, so it might be possible for two of them...

Well, for the record I didn't mean from start to finish all in one day. xD
I've just never owned all three at once. So when FFIX gets released I'm gonna savor the taste of having all three at my disposal whenever I wish.

Though I have always been tempted to try for the Excalibur II in FFIX...

I think that'll be impossible on the PSN release. You had to pop open the disc drive to skip the cutscenes to get through the game in under 14 hours.

It is a shame Final Fantasy Tactics isn't up there. With a much more mature story than the standard games, and a battle/customization system that blew all the other ones away, it still remains the best FF I have ever played. I cry FOUL!

...PS1 Final Fantasy.

(Only counting the three main-line ones, of course. Tactics WAS pretty good...)

Ok here goes:
6 > 7 > X > 9 > 4 > 8 > X-2 > 12

And everyone else's opinion is wrong, because that's how opinions work.

I think 6 is looked at with the Nostalgia Goggles just as much as 7 is.

The best is obviously 4. :)

I'll give you that on 7, but I didn't play FF6 til it was released on Playstation (it came with an awesome demo for FFX on a seperate disc). So no nostalgia here, it's just that good. And come on, Kefka owns.

Chocobo racing?,lol really?.

I'll vote for VII,I've played various FF but VII and VIII are the only ones I continue to play from time to time,VIII is kinda tedious though with the whole draw mechanic.

Definitely one of mine, as well.

Only marred by the fact that they constantly did what is my number one pet peeve in RPG's...

Continually taking away my party members and making me use people I haven't used in 50 levels, so I have to spend hours grinding them up to be able to get past whatever obstacle I need to.

Bah. =P

FF7 had best story, FF8 had best graphics, FF9 had most creative characters, games( card game),,,I think it depends mostly on individualism,,,I think all of them were pretty successful and entertaining
