I've played Mario Party 4-7. They're pretty fun to play as a drinking game. Its basically just a board game for lazy people, which works well for drinking. Although, each one seemed less board game and more mini game.

I will argue that Mario Party is not really for lazy people. Some of the games required you to push a button or turn the joystick as quick as you can. I feel like I'm in fairly decent shape, and those games make my heart race.

Ugh, really?

Am I the only one who thinks that when Mii's "speak" they sound a little, re.tarded? Like when you select them in Mario Kart.

I think I'd much rather enjoy another Mario Party game with the Mario cast then a bunch of Mii's running around.

Or why not make a "Nintendo Universe" Party and include the likes of Samus, Link, Zelda, Pit, etc. Think of it as a Super Smash Bros "Party" game... but instead of beating each other up, they act like a bunch of drunken frat boys performing stupid drinking games.

Before some idiot comments that Nintendo wouldn't make a game with Mario characters drinking, i should point out that I wasn't saying they should be presented as drinking games, I'm just thinking that Mario Party games always remind me of "video game" versions of drinking/party games, that's all.

The party games themselves would be no different (ok, hopefully different, and yet similar, if that makes sense) to traditional Mario Party games. Just this time, we involve the whole Nintendo universe.

hahaha, yeah, just couldn't think of a good alternative to the word re.tarded because that's how they sound.

I guess if my vocabulary wasn't so damn limited, it wouldn't be a problem :)

@rikthagreat

So, my idea having a "Mario Party" game with an expanded cast to include many more Nintendo characters like Smash Bros does is a "stupid idea"?

How do you figure? Is it really that much of a stretch from other Mario Party games?

Would you honestly prefer a Mii Party game over that?

I actually think that's a awesome idea, having characters like Mario, Link, Samus like a Smash Bros type roster (with out Ness and other failures) in a party game
sounds awesome.

So, Wii Party versus Galaxy 2, Metroid other M, Sin and Punishment, the coming Zelda, Monster hunter 3 is already out, same for No More Heroes 2, Red Steel 2, and yet because Wii Party is show, Wii is just casual, I believe there is a huge casual market with the Wii, but 1 casual game with around 7 titles for core gamers, but Nintendo only gives casual stuff, yeah right....

Going to make a lot of money, and it may actually be good . . . But I feel like I'm the only one who hates Miis. They are boring, simple, and ugly. As if Nintendo doesn't have one of the largest library of characters, why can't we just get Super Party Bros. Brawl or something?

Any game with either "Wii" or "Party" in the title is destined to sell like hotcakes.

...and a game with BOTH in the title sells like megacakes.

Which gives me an idea - Vegas should have an over / under for betting on video game sales like they do for sports scores.

"Nintendo has not launched a marquee party game since Mario Party 8, launched in summer 2007".

What about Wii Sports Resort? Perhaps something was lost in translation. As for the game itself, well I've long since stopped worrying that the Wii was being taken down the silly, wacky party console route, that ship has well and truly sailed. It looks fine though, probably good fun.

No strict party game, at any rate. Sports Resort still retains at least the mantle of the sports game, and some of the sports have the depth to merit that, though others are mere diversions.

It's about time. I guess they were making so much money from Wii Sports that Wii Party wasn't even necessary.

Just about every 3rd party developer has a Wii party game by now, and Nintendo is just getting to it.

I'd still rather have Mario Party though.

@nekki - anyone needs a reason other than zelda? seriously half of us buy into the whole nintendo systems just for zelda (mario and whatever is good too but)....

Motion Plus is also used in a handful of WiiWare games. And there's always golf and tennis. (Yeah, boring. Yeah, I don't have any MotionPlus games except Sports Resort either.)

I don't understand it: they release a new Mario Party game every year and just as the original formula begins to get stale and just as they release the console that might bring something fresh to the game POW they stop releasing them.

This is an oddly generic announcement from them, but perhaps they figure this can sell more than Mario party, and prove to be another evergreen title for later in the Wii's life.

Could also be insurance against a possible Vitality Sensor flop.
