Hey, if you've made the important life-altering decision to sell your soul (and all your free time) over to World of Warcraft, you might as well go whole hog, you know? Best Buy's got a pretty scintillating deal for the 40-or-so people left on the planet who've yet to play Blizzard's super successful MMO: For a limited time, if you purchase the core game for $20, you'll get the Burning Crusade expansion (which retails for $30) at no additional charge. It's like getting twice as addicted at half the cost! What a steal!

Not bad at all. Just ignore the fact, you really have to add the cost of WOTLK to that price and include the new Cataclysm expansion that'll be out soon. Your first month investment in World of Warcraft will only be around $70.00 and a month or two later, you'll only have to spend another $49.95 for the next expansion and a monthly fee of $14.95.
Also ignore that to play with you friends you'll need to level up to where everyone plays at now adays which requires 68ish levels of questing/instancing/however you like to play to reach WOTLK and another 10 levels till your ready to do the heroics they are running or if your unlucky another 10 levels and 100 runs for emblems till your ready to try doing the roics they are running -- if you know your class.
Its kind of funny people consider this a good deal when you can pick up a much better graphically looking game with some unique gameplay elements and good team work emphasis while still allowing solobility like LOTRO with all of its expansion for $9.99 and get a month free. If you paid the same amount as you would to get into wow, you could afford a lifetime subscription and NEVER pay a subscription fee and never pay a monthly fee. Wow can't offer you that.

If LOTRO was such a better buy , then it would be the leader in MMOs, not consolidating servers.
I make new level 1 toons all the time and if a friend of mine wanted to play with me, I'd make a new character to help power level him.
But, it seems that you only think wow has something of value at 80.
Oh, and I'll bet any amount of money you want that there will be a TON of new level 1s the day Cataclysm drops because the majority of new content will be for leveling players, with the top max level stuff coming later on through patches.

No. You can redownload it from the website, after you've registered your account and a game key, but you still have to have bought the game.

someone hacked my account, i told blizzard about it and told them i need to change my information, they locked my account and would not let me play it again unless i faxed them a shit ton of information.
it was a huge pain in the ass and after sending them 3 different things, they asked for even more. it was a good way for them to lose a customer forever. (well until diablo 3 comes out...)

Same could have been said about GM/Chrysler/Ford in the 80's. that turned out well.

@Subarub
You really think Ford is anywhere near its position that it was in in the 1960's?
also people that say "government motors" show that they really don't follow the industry very well.
No matter how you look at it, the big three stopped caring about what their customers were asking for and focused on making things cheaper and easier to push off the line. eventually they even stopped any kind of constructive customer support with their clients and eventually lost their domination in the market place. If you don't care about what your customers want or you make their lives difficult they will associate your company with bad feelings and stop using your product.
Ford and GM have bounced back, but only because they took a renewed interest in their customers (ford more than GM) and they are starting to gain market share back and make a profit. and it took them a good 20 years to even start to pull them selves out of the hole.

I don't care if someone uses a private server or not, but I'm pretty sure it's against Blizzard's Terms of Service to do so. Just passing the info along.

Your game keeps a log of every place you connect to.
"Last connect to".
If they want to, they can see if you have connected to a private server.

I'm thinking about getting this, even though I own the original game. I don't have TBC, which normally costs $30, so getting it for $20 sounds good to me!

Why will it?
It will get easier.
Special holiday bosses will no longer drop items. You will get a bag with items every attempt, like you do now with random dungeons below 70. On the first attempt each day, you have the same chance that it will drop. And if it does, it's your's. Every other attempt afterwards will drop a bag with the random items, and you can do it as much as you like, no more limited attempts per day. Everyone gets a chance to get it, and if they are all lucky, everyone in the group can get it.

Even if the droprate was that low (droprate is actually at like 2%), it doesn't change, and no one rolls for it, you get it.
How is that "harder" ? Your chances are better.

You must not have seen the part in the update where you can run them as many times as you want now. You can camp it all day every day for the duration.

Actually, no, the bag only drops once for the first time per day, the rest of the bags only contain the other items.
As for the droprate on WoWHead, the droprate is considerable lower because it only reports people who are using the WoWHead client. The actual droprate is 2%.
Yes, you will get less chances per day, but if it drops, you won't have to outroll 4 oher people. So say you ran it 5 times, and 5 times it drops, you have to outroll those people each time.

Yes, however I recall the part of the update that says the special loot bag only drops on the first run of the day, the same way you get bonus emblems on your first random.

Zarhym:
Just to clarify some misconceptions about this new functionality, the summoning of holiday bosses is going away. Players can queue for these bosses via the Dungeon Finder or special holiday NPCs found in the world. Once the party is finalized, the group will be ported directly to the area where the holiday boss resides. Players can kill the holiday bosses as often as they want for standard loot (epic rings, trinkets, etc.), however, they will only drop one holiday-themed loot trove per player per day. These loot troves will have a chance of containing rare holiday items such as The Horseman's Reins.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q u o t e:
Why? I have nothing more to add except to ask the question because there has to be some good reason for this. Otherwise it should just be dropped because it's unnecessary...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The way players were grandfathering in alt characters, scamming others by not having a summon available, and continually soft-resetting dungeons -- creating a major load on instance capacity -- was never intended.
The change has some positive and some negative consequences, however, we feel it's the best way to make this a better system and more in-line with our original plans for World Event bosses.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So yes, you can sit there and kill it all day, but now you have one shot at getting those .3% droprate special mounts. So ultimately you have less of a chance to get the mount than you did last year.
Yes, it's better at making the mount uber-rare like it should be. Still sucks for those of us who want it, though.
