BioShock 2 multiplayer patch coming soon to all platforms

Are you sick and tired of all the freezing and crashing going on while you're freezing and smashing opponents in BioShock 2 multiplayer? We can't say that we blame you. Fortunately, 2K is rolling out patches for the all three -- Xbox 360, PS3 and PC -- versions of the game that should alleviate connectivity issues, as well as a few other miscellaneous snafus. The patches are currently "in the final stages of testing," meaning we should be seeing them fairly soon. Click past the jump to see the full list of changes for each platform.

Xbox 360 Patch Notes

Fixed MP freezing and connectivity issues
Fixed lobby in MP when two parties, each consisting of five players, are unable to join the same game lobby for any game mode except Survival mode
Fixed lobby issue in MP where the BioShock 2 Party falls apart at the end of a match when the host of the party is the host of the game in the Multiplayer Lobby.
Updated both SP/MP and Launcher to find new exe and SP content fixes
Fixed issue where clients are denied progress toward multiplayer ranking after a host powers down the console during an Xbox LIVE ranked match.
Fixed issue where Filtering the leaderboards causes the leaderboard to occasionally not load.

PS3 Patch Notes

PC Patch Notes

Fixed MP freezing and connectivity issues
Implemented color-blind friendly hacking UI.
Fixed further issues related to HUD stretching.
Resolved functionality issues related to NVIDIA 3D Stereo options. Option in the Single Player Options Menu was removed and is now activated through the NVIDIA hardware.
Fixed an issue where the User's whole vision would become blurred while using ironsights in DirectX10.
Fixed a problem where trying to install a patch manually through the appdata directory would not work properly.
Fixed an exploit in Multiplayer involving Rebirth
The "Reset All" option in the Multiplayer Controller Settings now functions properly.
Fixed further issues related to plasmid gene bank hotkeys not taking effect in-game.
Resolved a problem where two parties consisting of five players were unable to join the same game lobby for any game mode except Survival of the Fittest.
Fixed various localization bugs for Multiplayer
Fixed an issue where task switching while in a game lobby would not initiate.
Improved security for various weapon loadout files and fixed related exploits.
Fixed issue where the title will fail to direct the user to the proper lobby when a join-able match is in session and the user accepts a game invite or attempts to join session in progress.
Fixed issue when BioShock 2 fails to apply the title update when the files are placed in the appdata directory manually
Fixed text overrun on the Corpse counter from the first Little Sister
There are 53 achievements available to the user after installing TU 047.
Fixed issue where BioShock 2 is listed as two separate games in the Games for Windows - LIVE guide after installing the title update and earning achievements.
Fixed Spanish language issue where text overrran the textbox provided on the multiplayer lobby
Fixed German language map title for Fontaine Fisheries
Players can automatically reach rebirth rank 40 with any rank rebirth profile by viewing the epilogue within the apartment.
Changes made to customizable controls using the "Reset All" function are not saved when the game is restarted.
Fixed issue where the title will fail to properly task switch while in a game lobby when account management is chosen on Vista x86 PCs
Fixed exploit where the user can modify the user specific .ini to acquire weapon loadouts before reaching the appropriate rank

I fear this is a "too little too late" patch. I was online this weekend and it took me damn near 10-15 minutes just to find enough people for a match. The bioshock 2 online community has dwindled quite a bit as of late. In the next few months, I bet it'll be impossible to find a match.

It's ashame though, I enjoy the multiplayer, it feels a bit "old school", more like Quake 2 then say, Halo: Reach (not that I have a problem with Reach, fantastic so far!). Obviously, Bioshock 2 is much more than the older games, like Quake 2 was, but the style of run and gun is similar.

It's also ashame that 2K doesn't recognize these dwindling numbers and do something a bit more proactive, such as release the upcoming DLC for FREE. I'm pretty sure people would be more inclined to jump online if we had some more content to play with. But asking us to put 10 bucks down for DLC that might go unused do to the shortage of online gamers for this game, well, it's just a bit absurd.

Oh well, I'm going to keep going online until I hit Rank 40, get that final achievement and then pack Bioshock 2 up. (Of course, I'm a bit bitter that this new DLC will add achievements, so my Bioshock 2 gamerscore won't be at a full 100%, but oh well... I'm sure I'll find a way to live)

Should have rolled it out quicker =\ A lot of us have given up on trying and moved on to newer games, and have even newer games coming out like crazy. Maybe I will give it a try after the patch though.

I want to pick this up finally, but I'm a bit late to the party because of a large stack of unplayed games.

Is the online community for BS2 still large enough that the multiplayer is fun and new player friendly?

It's difficult to say, I haven't played the MP for months and even then it took a while to get a match going. At that time it was very friendly to new players, although I anticipate the players that remain are probably fairly hardcore.

It's still worth picking the game up for the single player, IMHO...speaking of, some single player DLC would be nice.

I unfortunately didn't even finish the single player experience because of a bug. I got locked in a room basically and there was no way out, and I hadn't saved for like 3 hours. Had no desire to go back and replay it so I just put it away. Was hoping the big patch would fix that locked door so I could continue, but it doesn't appear to be in the notes. :(

Well, at least 2k are doing something, it's much more promising that what Bioware are doing with their bugs and glitches for Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360)- which is nada! Not a thing!

Currently, all that they are trying to address is the farken audio clip out problem on Samara's loyalty mission, and nothing else. It's a joke that they can't even find out why this minor problem is so intermittent.

I love Mass Effect 2 to death, but there is just too many bugs that go unfixed. :(

Kenaf come out of that closet! j/k, that sucks man. See this is another reason to buy used games at a later date. 2K's spending a lot of money on fixes but nobody really cares anymore. Maybe I'll pick it up now for 10 bucks. Paying attention devs? Testing! Blah blah blah (old guy rant).

THIS GAME IS DEAD!!! (well at least on the PS3 side things, cant comment on the 360 version)

it took me literally 27 minutes to find a room to play in. I dont think i've ever seen a game lose its multiplayer fanbase that fast.

There's still people playing, but the way the servers are it's impossible to find a game.

So... is the patch on this disc too?

I see what you did there... since the DLC has all been on the disc you think that...

This better not contain the map pack as well. I had to lose my daughter to a "project delta" and this would just top off the shit cake.

I actually love Bioshock 2's online. It has it's problems and the dreaded lag but I fell in love with it.

What the hell does that mean? Are they actually referring to when your PS3 crashes and makes the beep noise when you have to reset it?

If so, PS3 beep crash fixes? Really?

Maybe the game should've been held back a month.
