You may not have been too disappointed by Fable 2's lack of animals (filthy, stinking animals), but Lionhead's Lead Artist John McCormack was, and he tells Beauty of Games that he's making up for it with the next game. "The lack of animals in the Fable franchise is always something that has bothered me," he says, and so in Fable 3, "we've built bats, crows, rabbits, ducks, robins, vultures, lizards, rats, butterflies, moths, insect swarms, dogs, fireflies, geese and we even started on a cow."
Rest assured that animals won't be the only new part of the experience, though -- McCormack also says his team is hard at work on incorporating the new Industrial aesthetic into the game's buildings, morphed weapons and NPCs as well. He's not sure whether all of those animals will eventually make it into the finished product, but we hope so -- vultures need to be Touched, too.

I'm fairly certain that a menagerie of animals is illegal in most states, not to mention completely disgusting. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

Dictionary.com people. Sorry to ruin all the fun. Menagerie of animals is actually pretty redundant.
Oh, and it's a "veritable cornucopia", not variable... Again sorry to call out the grammar police.

I read "crows" as "cows" which made his later mentioning of it all the funnier.

Fable 2 did have rabbits, I remember that since I blasted one and unlocked an achievement

Yes, each species of animals exist in a real colony and the animals can mate and have offspring. Each animal actually feeds itself, whether by hunting or grazing off the land. Cows can actually be milked. You can plant seeds in Fable 3 and the plants grow in real time. You can grow tomatoes, corn, whatever seed you find will determine what food you can grow. Will make sure to bullshit you until the very release of Fable 3, but none of this will appear in the game. I'm Peter Molyneux.

Why stop at milking cows? I demand to milk any lactating mammal. Cats, rats, dogs and even women. Imagine the realism of using a breast pump so you can feed your baby breast milk while your wife has a night on the town.

If I can get an attack duck as a companion it's an instant buy for me. I'd tell the game store to put it on my bill.

I like the idea of more animals. My son (4) always talked about fable as the "Dog Walking Game"
Strangley, Dom Roberts had the same story http://www.gamepeople.co.uk/perpetual_360_fable2.htm

there better be scrappy ally cats. no other game fits better in the industrial age than a scrappy ally cat.

I bet it sucks having a name like "John McCormack" in this industry. I bet people confuse him for John Carmack all the time, then seem really disappointed when he corrects them.

I don't need a dog walking around with me - I need an animal the enemy won't see coming, then will underestimate as he comes at them...from the sky. That's right, give me a mean pissed off goose.

It would be awesome if you could get super-evil to the point where, as king, you could just point to a person and a flock of crows would descend from the heavens to carry him away and/or rip him apart. A literal murder of crows.

I'm glad to hear that! The bunnies and crows in Fable 2 are nice, but I'd like to see some horses, pigs, cows, and other people's dogs! Cats too, and rats, not giant rats you fight of course, but regular rats that scurry away into the darkness when I burst open somebody's front door and eat their porridge and sleep in their bed.
The game needs seagulls too.
