A few weeks ago, Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto tailored a poll for fans (and Twitter followers), canvassing to find out what role-playing classics from the PSOne era they'd like to see patched onto the PlayStation Store. We've been on pins and needles anticipating the results, and have been in stitches since Hashimoto announced the results earlier this morning: The next Squeenix RPG to hit the PSN (after Final Fantasy IX, mind you) will be Threads of Fate.
If your mind isn't embroidered with memories of the original game, Threads is an action-RPG with platforming elements and Secret of Mana-esque radial menus. Though it was only released to a sew-sew commercial reception, it was unique in that it featured multiple characters, each with their own interwoven story arcs. We won't go into any more detail than that, as we'd hate to post any spoolers. (And now that we've used them all up, you can rest assured that all future posts about this game will be totally pun-free. You're welcome!)

Square Enix employees probably aren't reading this.

which makes even less sense, considering Square Enix isn't responsible for Harvest Moon.

This is one of my all-time favorite, and is the first game I bought on release day. The story and characters are very charming, and the mix of 2D and 3D action is a lot of fun. Each character also has a unique play style and story (which intertwine), so a second playthrough will feel new and fresh. Just a wonderful, enchanting game. This isn't just nostalgia speaking, as I ripped the ISO from my copy and put it on my PSP less than a year ago. I thought it held up remarkably well.
For anyone playing through it the first time, I'd recommend playing as Rue. The beginning to Mint's story paints a bad picture of her, and I could see how one could lose interest. Rue's story is fantastic, though. Quite sad, considering how light-hearted the game is.

I found Mint to be quite a charmer, actually. She reminds me a little of Lina Inverse of Slayers fame. Rue is a more standard heroic type, while Mint more of an anti-hero.

Oh, I definitely liked Mint by the end of the game. She grew on me. It's just strange to play as such a selfish brat. I found her personality very grating in the beginning of the game.
Thinking about it, Threads of Fate kinda has the early version of a morality system. Want to play as the solemn hero, fighting to bring back his dead lady friend? Pick Rue. Want to play as a power-hungry princess attempting to rule the world? Go with Mint.
One last thing: Axe > Oversized hoop earrings.

I never got around to playing this back in the day but always meant to, so I might pick it up.
I'd like to see them release Chrono Cross as well.. but wish I could import my old saves!

I never played it in my PS1 days (money was tight with just then getting my first job and all), so I may check it out when it hits the US PSN.
I'd definitely play it before FFIX since I beat that game to death at least three times already; the style of IX warrants earlier playthroughs than VII or VIII, for the record, as the latter games have aged effing horribly.

Threads of Fate is one of my favorite games, so this is great news indeed. I hope it comes out on the NA PSN. (It'd also be nice if they made a sequel from the game's epilogue ... not that I expect that to happen at this point.)
