Walmart is taking another pass at the used games market after it appeared to bow out months ago. IndustryGamers reports that Walmart – the international mega conglomerate that likely sold you your hamper – informed the site in a statement that it's "currently working with Game Trade, a start-up services provider, in a lease agreement to test their Game Trade stores in five Walmart locations."
According to Walmart, the locations will offer "previously-owned" games, movies and entertainment hardware for "store credit or cash." Considering any monkey reading a spreadsheet can see the monumental amounts of cash GameStop reaps from used games, it's no wonder that even a mega-corp like Walmart wants a piece. We also hear Weyland-Yutani is interested in the used games market to fund some special projects.

President Taco, I appreciate the things you've done in your administration.
But I cannot disagree with you more then I do at this juncture. A liar, one can say, I am for many of my past transgressions. But Walmart is not a destination I ever chart on my daily schedule.
It may be amicable....
Oh...F it. *flips the finger*

hey I live in Kingston. THere's a Walmart here, there's also one in Fishkill, Newburgh, and Catskill. There's plenty of 'em here. Don't make it sound like we're the back-o-beyond.

@obie I work at a Wal-Mart and I can confirm, it is a dark and evil place, filled with the sobs and desperate cries of old people who remember the "good old days", middle agers realizing they will never get out, and young folks who are scared of becoming the middle agers or, god help them, the old people. That being said though, I'm not sure they ever completely left the used game market. The website somewhat regularly offers the option to buy used copies of games. Admittedly though, that could just be left over stock from the first attempt.

I honestly don't think I could bring myself to buy a used game from walmart. They can be even more sneaky than LameStop if they wanted to. Iffy subject for me.

Because we know what to expect from Gamestop. Walmart a lot of people have more trust in. Just sounds like bad mojo to me.

Nevermind, I understand what your saying, Walmart's target demographic has more trust in it's company than Gamestop's.

Precisely. It speaks for a majority in whole. If I had only the option of buying a new game from Gamestop or Walmart, I would go to Walmart in a heart beat. As said before, we know what to expect from Gamestop. Walmart can get away with things for a while before people really notice. I am speaking of everyone in general not just major gamers.

Not a big fan of gamestop but no... they don't sell new games open! The only open copy is the one to show off on the shelf and that is clearly done for security purposes.

I work as a foods vendor and have the unfortunate responsibility of stopping in Walmart on a daily basis. Out of all the stores I've ever had to work in (Walmarts, Fred Meyers, Targets, Kmarts, Safeways, QFCs, and a multitude of other independent grocery stores, Walmart is by far the ABSOLUTE worst of them, hands down.
They're horribly at correctly stocking their shelves and making sure they're full. They fail at making sure their products are properly tagged with the right price. Out of all the stores, the employees are least knowledgeable as to where things are. Walmart employees are the least capable of demonstrating that they care about their customers (or their own store for that matter). They're the least knowledgeable about the products they sell.
I believe part of their employees' ignorance is in part because of the company's low standards. They just don't seem to care. The other part of the problem is that Walmart both hires and somehow seems to attract the less capable workers out of the community. When the weirdest, least intelligent, and least capable people think, "I need a job," the first place they default to is Walmart.
Having worked in their stores with their employees, I've seen how the company runs, and I don't like it. I only shop there if it's the last place in town that has what I need. If you'd seen what I've seen, you wouldn't trust Walmart either. Boy did it feel good to let all that out in "rant" form :)

Walmart is great because of its pharmacy. $4 prescription drugs is great for recent grads without health insurance.

As a WalMart employee, I'd like to say I really hope this works out. When WalMart gets its shit together, they can do things right. They know they're in the public eye, so when they do something, they make sure it makes them look good.
Think about all of the complaints we have about GameStop. If WalMart becomes a serious competitor in the used games market, GameStop will have to get its shit together to compete. I don't buy used games because I don't buy from GameStop if I don't have to, but if WalMart did, I might consider it.

In my shopping district there's a Target right across the street from a Walmart. The signs for the high way literally are Target.

I wonder how Walmart will respond to EA's new DMR. That thing has the potential to shut down the whole used game market. And just a side note, I was in a Walmart at 10 am on a Tuesday.... I swear, 50% of the costumers had neck tatoos. Could have been a fluke but....

why do people hate walmart so much? i never had any problems there. they are one of the few stores that hire senior citizens, they offer low prices, and keep thousands of people employed. Plus i got Oblivion GOTY edition for $10 two years ago!
