I'll either rent it or wait till its sold for $30 like AC2 is right now. Good game and story but, AC1 & 2 while good got boring after awhile.

I hope this is just a side story, like BloodLines. I really want this franchise to progress in the direction that it did from the first to it's sequel...I don't want them churning out sequel on an annual basis with the same multiplayer modes that every other game has.

It's pretty much Assassin's Creed 2.5. Claimed not an expansion or direct sequel. So it does sound more like a side story, yet still following with the main story.

Oh, thanks for that. I was stuck on stupid trying to figure out if this was supposed to be a sequel or something. I'm guessing Brotherhood is to the AC franchise as Halo 3: ODST was to the Halo franchise?

Not sure. While they claim it's not an expansion or sequel, they say it continues where AC2 left off. It's rather confusing if you ask me.

Maybe it's not a direct sequel because it continues Ezio's story, but not Desmond's. I'm pretty sure an eventual AC3 will mean another ancestor and setting.

Love it!

But remember gamers, Assassin's Creed 2 dropped $20 after about a month and a half (just after Christmas). Keep this in mind when the holiday season rolls around and you're on a tight budget! :)

Agreed, I haven't bothered with the DLC either, but if they would have a sale and drop the price by at least 50% - maybe I would.

I try and wait for all Xbox Live Marketplace content to go on sale before I purchase. Most stuff goes on sale eventually, so why pay extra when I could just be patient.

It doesn't help that us Canadians are constantly being screwed with our points...
Canada: 1400 points for $20
US: 1600 points for $20.

Why? Sony doesn't do it, Nintendo doesn't do it. Why must you screw over your Canadian consumers?

If you haven't messed with the DLC, don't bother. It isn't particularly rewarding to go through a Templar Lair (basically the same dynamic as an assassin tomb) for 2500 florins once you've pimped out the villa.

Can't wait for this game. The first and second games are two of my favorites this gen and the story arc is probably my favorite of all time. I live for this kind of stuff. The games had their issues, no doubt, but they are pretty epic. Makes me want to go and repurchase AC2, get a platinum trophy and pick up the DLC packs I haven't played yet.

Anyone know if the AC2 DLC packs have additional trophies / achievements?

@Big E

Thanks for the heads up on that. I loved the game and only traded it in because I wanted to get something else out of it before the value plummeted. With the game down to $20-$30 now it seems like a good time to get it, finish off the trophies and buy the additional DLC. Maybe they'll do some kind of a goty edition. Anyways, thanks for the tip about the tomb dlc.

Loved the first two Assassins Creeds so I am really looking forward to this. Plus Kotaku is reporting that the multiplayer is being developed by the same studio that did the excellent multiplayer from Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. To me that bodes real well for the multiplayer being good.

You have bigger balls than me, my friend. I merely name-dropped Kotaku, you went and linked the whole story. Either way, we at least both see the significance of the SC: CT multiplayer team spearheading Brotherhood's multiplayer component.

@ Trey I love both Joystiq and Kotaku. Sometimes one points out something the other didn't catch. But yeah i loved the multiplayer in SC:CT and hope they will be able to bring some of the greatness of that to this. I wish they would have used that team on Splinter Cell Conviction.

@ Tigre Nope ive never played the DS version and haven't really heard much about it. Would love to give it a try but i don't have a DS

I know there is a blood feud going on with Kotaku here, but this information is too great to pass up: "While the production is being led by Ubisoft Montreal, work is also being done at Ubisoft studios in Singapore, Bucharest, Québec City and Annecy, with Annecy being the developer behind the excellent multiplayer side of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory."

They could market Brotherhood as, "from the makers of Splinter Cell: CT's multiplayer..." and I'd be sold like Kotick's soul to the money-devil from those words alone.

Sorry for being a bit slow, but is this AC3 or AC2.5? If it's the full sequel I admit to being disappointed that it's in the same historical era (judging by the return of characters from AC2).

It looks to be a semi-sequel but not full blown. I imagine they would continue the storyline in the present as well as in the animus. The site I linked above gives a nice sneak peak trailer and some of the new weapons. I can't wait to see more!

Awesome!

Something about the Assassin's Creed franchise really draws me in. I wasn't able to finish AC2, as my PS3 Blu-Ray drive broke, but it was good fun all the way up to that point. The clever inventions, the freerunning, and most of all, the AMAZING views when you get to the top of something tall.

I enjoy the occasional bit of freerunning and urban climbing. Games like Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed have at times completely changed my perspective on the world. After playing these games for a few hours, you see new ways to get places, and really get a sense of freedom found in very few other places.

And gadgets! Holy raptor Jesus, the Gadgets! The Poison Blade is one of the greatest inventions in modern gameplay. Sort of similar to the Poison Throwing Knives from Perfect Dark. Later on, with the hidden gun, things just get better.

The creativity shown in these games surpasses pretty much every other game I've played recently, so they have my money for sure.

Veni, vidi, vici, anyone?

Exactly! Much like the Zelda series, long hailed for its level-less system of simply gaining new items and more health, a new, unique ability is ALWAYS more fun (which is the most important thing here) than simply powering up your Magic Missile to the next level. And then they included the ability to purchase the different weapons to carry around, allowing someone to cater more to their style. I do wish the "ultimate" dagger didn't look quite as silly as it did though.

Is...is that a crossbow on his back?! Awesome. Been waiting to see that in action since that trailer from the first game lol Been waiting for this game (Brotherhood) since I first heard about Ubisoft thinking of adding multiplayer/co-op into a Creed game. Double assassinations? Reminds me of good ol' Tenchu fun.

I'll pass. The Assassin's Creed games put me to sleep. And this is too early for yet another.

It stinks of milkage. A short campaign within a year of the last game's release and multiplayer? Talk about catering to the Call of Duty crowd, Ubisoft.

I agree. Though i can't dispute the greatness of the series, certain random things about this franchise annoy me to death.

-Stupid poses by the main characters (Especially the guy in AC1 with his arms outstretched)

-The long ass name of the AC2 main character.

@831 Son: His name is Ezio Auditore. The "de Firenze" part just signifies what city he's from ("I'm Ezio of the Auditore family of the city of Firenze"). It's almost like an honorific, and was used quite commonly back then.

It's like saying, "Hi, I'm John Smith from New York City."

Or "Gimli, son of Gloin." That always stuck with me and use that example as often as I can lol

@CheesePirateAssassin: I personally don't mind Brotherhood. I wanted a multiplayer portion to Creed as I thought it'd be fun to run around a huge, open city with some friends performing co-op assassinations, and so did a lot of fans. Ubisoft put the idea out there that they are considering a multiplayer/co-op feature to the third game, and a lot of fans responded positively, so they went through with it. But instead, they are testing out the multiplayer with a familiar character first (Ezio) and not making it a full sequel to see how gamers react before they consider making it a solid feature in the third game.

That's all it is. It wasn't a random thing they just threw out there. They requested fan feedback on if they should or shouldn't do it, and they got a response. So now they are seeing if they can pull off multiplayer well enough to make it a staple feature without making it seem like something that was tacked onto the third game, possibly dragging it down. If this Assassin's Creed "2.5" doesn't pan out multiplayer-wise, they might just scrap the idea entirely for the third game and put all their focus on the single-player, or they might attempt to tidy it up based on fan feedback. That's what they did with AC2. Ubisoft listened to all the feedback from reviewers and fans about the first game, and tried to fix it up.

Pretty sure that the multiplayer component is online co-op. Hopefully it will also support local co-op, I couldn't imagine a death duel type of multiplayer. Perhaps the carnival section of the game where you did different races and contest would be a good competitive mode.
