Andy Eddy seems like a regular guy. He's got some sweet scruff and nothing on his Facebook page looks out of the ordinary, so -- wait, what's this? Apparently Mr. Eddy is "working at Future US in the Future Plus group on a new publication called @Gamer, the 'official games magazine of Best Buy.'" For real?
It's news to us and certainly the first that Kyle Orland, ex-Joystiq blogger and devilishly handsome chap who noticed the blurb, has heard about it. While we're inclined to point out the obvious to Best Buy (uh, game mags are pretty dead, bro), we're interested in seeing how far this will go. Real editorial content or a glorified shopper's guide? We can't wait to find out!

Doubt it.

Game Informer is the 12th largest U.S. magazine in circulation. It even bests Time and Sports Illustrated.

How could they hire Andy Eddy and NOT call it @Vidgames?
I mean c'mon... http://tweetphoto.com/21484948
With Steve Harris and Andy Eddy back in publishing, I'm ready to buy another magazine storage box.

Definitely will never buy.
Game magazines are either moving to the web or going out of business, and Best Buy is just about the worst source for reliable information on anything.
Who thought it was a good idea to combine these two things?

You must not be a gamer then. Any real gamer knows that the fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, and super advanced logic and problem solving abilities we develop over the many years makes up far superior over any other class of people in society. When the zombie apocalypse comes and we're trapped in a burning building, we will know that it is imperative that we make it through the burning corridor to get the sparse shotgun ammo on the other side of the fire.

@Ballistic H: That sounds like the intro to a commercial, right before fatal1ty kicks down your front door and Falcon Pawnches your balls off.

So basically, Best Buy's version of Game Informer.
It won't have any room for retro or import games because Best Buy doesn't sell those (although I did see a stray copy of Jump Ultimate Stars in a Best Buy one time). Even if they did, they would sit unsold.
10 out of 10 for any games Best Buy is trying to promote this month?

Yeah Joystiq, game magazines are pretty dead. That's why I still subscribe to OXM, Nintendo Power, Game Informer, and once again recently, EGM.
This however sounds stupid. It will probably be more like a newsletter that primarily advertises upcoming releases to non-gamers.

I agree, I enjoy both OXM and GI.
Best Buy isn't somewhere I'd go to gaming info though.

Best Buy already has a monthly gaming brochure/minimag. I do not see a reason for this unless they plan to expand their Gamerzone program

Well isn't Game Informer the leading game mag? And it's doing well right? BB's gonna need some in store incentives to get it off the ground like Gamestop's free GI subscriptions with Edge memberships.

best buy is unreliable for information.

Shouldn't that be "an @gamer?"

I hope they have a full page feature on the benefits of Best Buy installing your consoles for money.

They should have just partnered with an existing magazine, either GamePro or the new EGM if they wanted their own game informer.
