Korean television manufacturer LG and Microsoft have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding representing a new partnership in South Korea between the TV maker's 3D sets and Microsoft's Xbox 360 consoles, Engadget reports. A press release on the subject (wobbily translated from Korean) seems to say that the 360 will be sold in the region with 3D games in-tow and an LG 55/47LX9500 LED, possibly starting in June. Unfortunately, no details of the partnership could be confirmed with Microsoft or LG reps in the States as of this publishing.
That said, a Microsoft rep told us: "As we've said before, 3D games are available today on Xbox 360 and will continue to evolve. Today, you can buy a 3DTV and wear glasses to play games like Avatar, and more titles like Batman: Arkham Asylum are on the way. The promotional partnership with LG announced in South Korea today is specific to the South Korean market, but is further evidence that as 3D adoption grows, Xbox 360 will support 3D games and entertainment."
Given that statement, we don't see the partnership having global implications just yet -- not to mention the game being played above is Avatar and the two games mentioned by Microsoft are known to be 3D enabled. But hey, at least we got this hilariously awkward image of Microsoft's Alan Bowman playing games with LG's marketing strategy lead, right?

Dude I'm with X,L113TFD, I think 3D is a fad and I really can't see paying extra for it. It's one of those features I can live without and the more it gets pushed the quicker regular LCD/Plasma TV's go down so it's a win-win for me...

I tried 3D gaming using the nVidia 3D vision and it's pretty cool but I shutter to think that all TV's will be 3D. that would be a sad sad future. 3D gaming is not as great of a necessity as the jump from SD to HD.

Remember it was only a few years ago people were saying HD wasn't necessary, now SD is phased out. I think regardless of what people want TV manufactures are going to invent new reasons for people to buy their TVs. So I'm sure they'll push this new tech on to the general public, like it or not. Seeing how well 3-D cra... I mean movies are doing, I don't see this going away soon.

It doesn't have to be a fad, it can be an added feature. You don't have to look at it in such a negative way. I remember seeing a display concept of a TV that had 3D (somewhere on engadget) that did not require glasses but still gave the 3d effect. If these companies can shape up their tech correctly, they can make 3D a more viable feature.

Take note from the 3DS. No glasses, option to turn 3D off. Bam! Everyone's happy.

They should make every TV 3D optional. Now I'm not pro-3D, but it's a neat feature that every TV should have in case it does become the future. If it doesn't, all we have to do is press a button and throw the glasses away.

3D wasn't all that impressive back in the year 2000 when I was playing Quake 3 in 3D with my Voodoo graphics card, and I'm not all that impressed with it in movie theaters either
that said I'm pretty sure 3D is the next big reason to buy all new stuff and I agree that it's not really any more of a fad than HD

It's not a fad, go to bestbuy as I told the other guy and put on the glasses and see for yourself. I too thought it was going to be a fad/corny. The only reason why I didn't buy the LED 55 inch was best of the glasses, the salesman told me the 3D-Ready TV's in about 2 years won't require glasses thus far making the experience more enjoyable.
I strongly recommend anyone to go down to bestbuy and look for yourself.

Unless your playing PC games consoles don't even hit 1080p resolution most of the time. What would you want those specs for?

How is it fake 3D? Both games are released as 3D versions, minus the original Batman:AA release.

Will you be able to use any 3D TV to play Xbox 3D games or only the 'official XBox partner' TV?

One is playing with regular 3D shades and the other is playing with 3D mirror shades... I thought this was obvious... If you check the reflection in the TV you can see another TV behind the guy.

It's also possible that it's one of those 2 way TVs. At one angle you can see an image perfectly, but at the opposite side there's an entirely different image to watch. Those 2 way TVs rock.

I think 3d may stick around for awhile as long as the television makers make sure to inter-grate both platforms of TVs in one package, cause i don't think the majority of people will buy two types of TVs,just to enjoy both types of programing.aside from that i will wait for a price drop first or till all the kinks have been worked out.

I prefer holographic projection to this crappy 3D stuff currently being tooted as a revolution. Why don't BIG corporations develop on holographic projection technology instead, as opposed to coming up with a gimmick in hopes of selling more flat panel TVs.
The irony is there, a 3D visual presented in a flat panel... hrm, makes you think, huh?
