SouthPeak Interactive may be a little wobbly on paper and in the courtroom, but its My Baby franchise was born to run. The publisher's three My Baby games have sold over one million units in the US and Canada. Yes, one million units over three games may not sound so impressive, but we're talking about a series that retails for $30 and likely didn't cost much more to develop.
The games are meant to appeal to girls ages 6 to 11, allowing "gamers" to start with a newborn in My Baby Boy and My Baby Girl, then transitioning them to "experience the joys of parenthood through to the toddler years in My Baby First Steps" After that, they'll be all set for the real thing with 16 and Pregnant.

My niece wanted it. They're not a very discriminating customer. Whatever makes them happy.
Though surely it frustrates them with its crappiness like 'Eek the Cat' did me back on the SNES. I never complained then, but god that was a horrible game.

How awkward do devs feel when their doing games like this? Ok guys, so Team A will be working on "Stealth Pirate", Team B will be working on "Gorefest: Headshot's Only", and Team C, you get "My Baby: First Steps" then "Drama Queen Club".

Just because it sold a million copies doesn't make it "massively popular", BusinessWire.

Has anyone actually played some of these games that are targeted towards women? Many of them are actually a lot more challenging then the games targeted towards men.

Oh no! A 6-11 girl has different taste in games than I do. She's ruining gaming for me by playing something that appeals to her and not me!

Oh yeah, certain generations have it better than this poor group of people.
Think though - if you grow up as a part of that targeted demographic, then you would never know any different until you progressed with video games and maybe one day you play one of those all time classics like A Link to the Past.
It's a first step into a brave new world.

once again, you are absolutely correct. but you see that's where we (the core gamers) come in and show them (when they reach an appropriate age) that there's more to game's then birthday parties, babysitting, fashion design and sports. that there are game's such as RPG's, FPSes, SRPG's, Platform's and the many many other genres of video game's. to be quite honest i believe that to be Nintendo's goal by introducing game's like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pikmin, StarFox as well as third party game's and franchises such Final Fantasy, COD, Halo, Suikoden, Yu-Gi-Oh, Megaman and a boat load of other's.

CRAP!! messed it up a bit. anyway what i was trying to say is that by introducing those game's to the casual audience they might just like them so much that they want to play more of those game's (core game's). being casual mean's that you rarely play video game's, yes, but these aren't some sort of program's or machine's we are talking about here. we're talking about human being's. they don't have to say "well, you know what, since I'm a casual gamer i guess I'll only play casual game's and not core game's even though they seem pretty interesting". nothing ANYWHERE says that they have to. casual simply implies that they play game's casually and have yet to play video game's for about more then 3 hour's. what Nintendo is doing with the Wii and DS is simply drawing them in. I'm guessing that the next step to would be to continue to provide casual game's as well as core game's which, if done correctly, would then have them like core game's and want more core game's to feed that craving (the craving for core game's). remember that in the eye's of a casual gamer a core game barely even exists. heck they probably see a few core game's COD, Halo and God of War and simply think that it's just a game just like WiiFit or Wii Sport's. they don't know what a core game is and what the difference between that and a game like Wii Sports is. all they know is that it's a video game. plan and simple.

Yes, the next step is up to the end user. They inevitably will come to be at the games sections in whatever store. They will look at the titles and a number of them will hunger for something more complex and involved.
They will be the graduating class that moves into the catagory of 'core' gamer, and you're right - not only Nintendo, but MS and Sony as well will be working on the titles that will draw them into the install base a convert.
It's really a win win all around. This group will have a number that moves onto 'core' status, us 'lifers' will have that group to laugh at about the first games thye got to play, and the companies making the games are gettign sales from a refreshed user base.

there you go! you got the idea! though as i said before they will need some convincing that core game's are actually fun and do not represent only blood, gore, violence and cursing. byr either way I'm glad to see that the fate of mankind isn't doomed and that there still exists intellectual human beings. though I'm not to sure about laughing at them because the first game they played was imagine party babyz lol. i man hell like you said we all have to start somewhere. i guess it's due in part to Zelda or Mario or any other core game(s) being the first we played that would cause us to tease them. but I'm sure they'll understand that we're just teasing them a bit and if they don't understand then we'll just have to open our mouths and let them know. either way I'm glad you understand the point I'm trying to get across.

Wow, just...wow, when will people learn that selling these types of games is as efficacious as trying to convince people to go green? It's bad enough that Nintendo has all but killed off the Virtual Console. Haven't we gamers suffered enough already?
